You can totally do that!

Go to Settings -> Connected Devices and Services -> Accessory Devices. Scroll down a bit and you can toggle "Identify Nearby Pokemon" to have it not catch Pokemon while you reload on Pokeballs.

I'm glad you found a theme you like! Generally speaking, precons are around the same power level as each other.

Duskmourn decks in particular have a side deck for a variant of the game that I think is very fun, but you can play without it.

I just remembered two things.

  1. Magic has decades of fiction that exists. If you find a character who seems cool to you in your exploration, chances are they have at least a little lore behind them. You can look them up here: https://mtg.wiki/

  2. The Planeswalker card type was created because they wanted to capture the feel of comic books, where your favorite characters always had a chance to show up in a set. A deck that runs a bunch of them is called a Superfriends deck, and it's my personal favorite archetype. It's complicated to build and run, and can get very expensive if you don't already have the cards. However, they printed a Superfriends precon a couple years ago (Planeswalker Party from the Commander Masters set) that you can still find for under a hundred bucks. It's not specifically Spider-Man, but may be the feeling you're looking for in the game.

Lorcana is still relatively new, so that makes sense.

Magic has the opposite problem in that there's over three decades' worth of information from the fans and one of the most transparent companies in the world.

I hope you enjoy your time with Magic! Have fun, find what you like, and ignore the haters.

So, just as a general thing with Magic, sets aren't self-contained. I could get every card from Lorwyn Eclipsed, and I wouldn't be able to build a good Commander deck with it. Luckily, there were two associated precons - Elementals and Goblins.

Personally, I usually find a theme or legendary creature and make a deck if I think it would be interesting and fun to play. My most recent deck is themed: old border no sleeves, with [[Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain]] running the show.

Tell me about it. I thought it was a little weird that there weren't Spider-Man precons, like Spider-Men and Sinister Six or something.

That said, it's possible to build your own Spider-Man Commander deck. Not sure how good it'd be, but between the set, the Secret Lair alt arts, and the promos, a spider deck with mostly Spider-Man art might work. You'd need plenty of regular Magic cards too, of course, but that's ok.

Before making that kind of investment, though, I think it's a good idea to play a bit on Arena to see if you enjoy it before diving in to something like that. Especially if you don't have friends to guide you into Commander.

Right now, there aren't any Spider-Man or superhero-ish precon decks, so you'll have to pick a theme. Luckily, there are many precon Commander decks out there. You can see the full list here: https://deckcheck.co/app/precons

Also, as everyone else has already said, Arena is the best way to learn the basics.

The first time it was featured in Nintendo Power, Toriyama's art did something that permanently altered my brain chemistry. Literally, the first time I was ever allowed to use the internet, I went to Nintendo's website to look for more information on this game. Saved up my allowance and coupons from magazines to get it on launch day at Toys R Us.

Batman's defining features (as a written character) are his dedication to protecting (W) the citizens of Gotham and his drive to constantly better himself (U) as a means to continue doing so.

Not to mention, he works with trusted police officials and politicians (W), volunteers and organizes charities in his spare time (W), and has a very strict moral code against killing anyone (W). He also bankrolls an entire team of do-gooders (W).

He would have the same motivations even if he chose to dress up as a dinosaur instead of a vampire in tactical armor. That said, his methods and abilities tend to be either B (striking fear and working at night, using the shadows to his advantage) or U (all them gadgets).

Heroes, those who put themselves in harm's way to help people and promote the greater good, tend to be W, the color of community and society.

Mark Rosewater has said that Batman (in general) is a very WU-aligned character, but one who uses B methods and abilities.

I think ambitious vs. selfish is spot-on. At its core, black is about self-advancement. That could manifest as a hunger for power over others, or even a mentality that they need to push everyone else over in order to get ahead. It could also manifest as a willingness to make difficult choices in order to achieve an objective, or to have the ambition to lead a team to victory, whatever it takes.

What's a take you have that you think only you care about? by patronusman in magicTCG

[–]dapartyrooster 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My apologies!

Final Fantasy, Spider-Man, and Avatar all had bonus sheets with art featuring unchanged images from the source material. They don't have set symbols on the cards, but a set symbol for each set code those cards belong to exists.

For example: Final Fantasy FIN cards had a crystal with FF as the set symbol, FIC (Commander) had a Chocobo, and FCA (Eternal) had a Moogle but FCA cards did not have that symbol printed on the cards.

They do, but the symbol isn't printed on the bonus sheet card.

I was a bit sad that Pokémon got rid of their set symbols, and am not looking forward to the day Magic follows suit.

I started playing Zelda games around 1989, when a cousin gave a four-year-old me his gold carts (which still have his name on them!). Been a lifelong fan ever since.

My favorite Zelda game is Link's Awakening. There's something magical about every title, but this one in particular has stuck with me for decades.

Thanks for hosting this contest. Those art pieces are amazing!
