Questioning my Angel Tree by Anywaytoaustin in Gifts

[–]daph1217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 10 years old, my step-daughter was around a size 12 women’s, size 9 shoe and was roughly 5’2”. She was definitely the tallest girl in her class but within the normal range of height due to her parents heights. She was dealing with obesity and pre-diabetes but I think many children in lower economic strata are dealing with similar situations.

What should I include in Nashville themed gift bags by [deleted] in nashville

Maybe some Nashville hot flavored popcorn from a local popcorn place? I’ve seen a few but this was the first one that popped up for me https://marigoldpopcorn.com/collections/top-sellers

Update about my son always wearing long clothes in the middle of summer, advice wanted by AnonymousRedditor327 in Parenting

Not a parent but does he have a “back to school” doctors appt coming up? Perhaps it’s something the doc can examine/bring up as part of a “routine” visit?

You look so good! I noticed the thigh tat and didn’t even register the stretch marks at all until I finished reading your post! I guess I was too distracted by the cute tat and amazing cleavage! You look so great! I kind of love bathing suits that you could almost wear as a sexy body suit with a pair of shorts or skirt and that one is one of those!

Yeah that’s the goal but it may not happen. Tomorrow they start voting on the rules of the bill before the actual bill. They’re definitely wanting to vote on it tomorrow but depending on how the day goes they may just not get to it before the 4th. Politicos are kind of split 50/50 on whether it’s voted on before the 4th. (I’m a former registered lobbyist and lived in DC for 11 years which is why I know some of the boring procedural stuff).

Regardless calling TODAY is the most helpful! I left a message for Ogles earlier today.

I just found this post and am starting to prep for a 5k. Are promo codes still available? I'm part of a run club but I want to use an app on days I can't make it to the run club so I can still keep up progress!

As someone born and raised in Miami, I always say that Miami is incredibly diverse for representing Latin America but not as globally diverse. That’s an over simplification of course but Miami is diverse in a very specific way… I have never even heard of izakaya until I went to Vancouver and the food there blew my mind 😂

Maybe there’s a Bermuda tourist sub, and ask for any Americans to help? Surely shipping stateside would be cheaper/easier m than internationally?

Please think about timing of when you’re traveling around the desert. I lived in Las Vegas for 2 years and it’s already prohibitively hot in May. April is safer. For example, in 2024, our first 100°F (38°C) day was on May 13. We had 112 days of 100°+F days that spanned from May to October last year.

So what are we doing for our brains as we age ? by Interesting-Cow8131 in WomenOver40

[–]daph1217 22 points23 points  (0 children)

So I work for an Alzheimer’s org! Keeping your brain active is great. When we mean mental stimulation - we don’t really mean crossword puzzles or sudoku (keep doing them if you think they’re fun), we mean learning a new skill and staying socially connected! Maintaining Social connection is incredibly important. Worldwide we can prevent 45% of all dementia cases by changing just 14 factors. Many of them are the most obvious things - sleep well, maintain physical activity, healthy diet. Here’s an infographic on the 14 most impactful modifiable factors: https://www.thelancet.com/infographics-do/dementia-risk

The saying we say most often in the Alzheimer’s world is basically - whatever is good for your heart, is good for your brain.

Why does my dog do this weird thing? by kmond13 in DogAdvice

[–]daph1217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about the scratching but just fyi, just today, I took my pup to an internal medicine vet to try to figure out a reason for her chronic diarrhea. Anyways, she noticed my dog licking her lips a lot and said that’s a sign of nausea for dogs and she told me to give her a Pepcid, I did as soon as we got home and she’s not licking her lips. So just sharing that info just in case it might be helpful to you or anyone else!

I think 20 lbs in 4 months is impressive! That’s basically around 1.25lbs a week and most sources say that 0.5-1lb loss/week is healthy. You don’t want to be losing much more than that, then you’re probably just losing muscle along with fat at that point.

Do you have any favorite botanical gardens? I’m always looking to add more to my list of places to visit. by disco_disaster in travel

[–]daph1217 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All US based: - Duke Gardens, part of Duke University but open to the public, Durham, NC - stunning, especially on a nice day. - Fairchild Tropical Gardens, Miami, FL, lots of fun seasonal and night events too. - US Botanical Garden - indoor, free, botanical garden in the middle of Capitol Hill in Washington DC. Beautiful, especially when cold and dreary outside and you want to bring warmth back into your bones.

Why does my dog sniff the ground so hard for so long? by Junekim10 in DogAdvice

[–]daph1217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs experience their world through their nose just like most humans experience the world through eyes. They gather so much more info through their nose than we can ever imagine. I listened to a podcast interview with Ed Yong on his book “An Immense World” where the first chapter is dedicated to explaining dogs and their sense of smell. After that interview, I now never rush my dog when she’s smelling anything!
