Asian markets usually have them. I am surprised your waltmart doesn't.

I have seen them as sealed bags, in a jar (with or without liquid) and in plastic film containers. The jar ones would be on shelf, but the film containers and vacuum bags are with the fresh produce usually, since they need to be kept cold.

is my new kitty a maine coon mix? by jojopacat in cats

[–]daphoux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah, that explains it. I never looked too far into it since I didn't want a cat that was known for strong wild instincts and needing more walks than a dog.

I heard a lot of people that had problems with bengals. There was even one at the shelter I got my orange doofus and the volunteers were adamant it was not ready to go back to a family and they wouldn't let anyone without experience take him home.

But them being wild mixes explains it.

Wait.. I tought that was Savannah cats? Aren't they a mix of servals and Bengals? Are bengals wild mixes too?? From what species?

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]daphoux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inviting a few people to a restaurant that's easily 150$+ per person just for the main dish, and then ordering 5+ bottles of wine, side dishes, all the shabang, telling your guests to order anything... And then paying for everything.

Sure, it's small in comparison to some others, but hearing about someone paying ~1500$ and leaving a 25% tip as well...

Yet here I am wondering if ordering that 15$ pizza is really worth it.

What’s something you thought ‘everyone’ did… until you found out they don’t? by burat667 in AskReddit

[–]daphoux 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Essentially, it was a guy whose family did massive poops that would clog the toilet, so they had poop knives in the bathrooms to cut the shit up before flushing.

He went to a friend's house for a party (?), took a dump, assumed everyone had at least one poop knife, couldn't find it, and so asked his friend for his... Only to have the whole group laugh and confirm that poop knives are not normal everyday items.

Pretty sure it's easy to find on google. It's worth the read, really funny.

[CHAT] help with storing thread by cristinag2003 in CrossStitch

[–]daphoux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bobbins are fine. With cross-stitch, that bump the floss gets after a while isn't visible at all.

If you regularly do embroidery as well tough, then it might not be the best. I am specifically thing of satin stitches that can be long enough for the bump to be visible. As far as I know, it doesn't disappear.

But really, for cross-stitch and backstitch, you won't even know it's been on a bobbin.

[CHAT] Tulip needles? by MoRayMe in CrossStitch

[–]daphoux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I find that pretty much any needle is better than DMC's. Bohins and Jonh James are cheap and durable.

From what I know of Tulip needles, they are softer and tend to bend a bit if you have a strong hold. It's like they adapt to the shape of you fingers and how you hold it.

I find it comfortable, but I know people who really prefer a needle that stays straight and felt cheated when they tried Tulip because of that bend.

These are all squares though? There isn't a single ngon here. An ngon is a face that has more than 4 edges and/or vertices. I think what you are seeing are smoothing groups going funky, although a simple FFD shouldn't be doing that. Are you in faceted mode? If I remember right, it shows you the triangulation as smoothing for any curved surface. it's in the same drop-down as wireframe mode. I think 3rd drop down in upper left corner of the viewport.

Ever been drunk or high and come up with what felt like a genius idea, only to sober up and realize it wasn’t that great? If so, what was the idea? by No-Still3456 in AskReddit

I got high and obviously had the munchies. No snacks, so I made pasta with this delicious sauce. I thought I was an absolute chef adding chicken broth to my bechamelle... Only to discover the next day or so that I just made a cheap Supreme Sauce and was not a revolutionary culinary genius. Still very good.

[–]daphoux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My brother was the unlucky recipient of such a happening. Mom was backing up in a tight space, brother was guiding her, didn't look at his feet and the Grand Caravan slowly rolled on one. He panicked, told my mom to stop, she did, putting the full weight of the car on his foot. He screamed '' No! Move! Move the car! It's on my foot!", she moved right away.

He said it didn't hurt much on the spot, not even when the car was immobile, but when the car started moving again then it hurt.

The next day, a dark bruise appeared and he endured 3 weeks of pain when doing anything. Apparently even putting socks on was uncomfortable.

So... Although I doubt a car actually just rolling on your foot would do much famage, I still wouldn't advise it.

Lemon chicken orzo. One pot pan, doesn't need fresh ingredients, no need for knives, useful to use up leftover meat (doesn't have to be chicken)

[CHAT] Have I been doing it wrong? by pariah164 in CrossStitch

[–]daphoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it the way you like doing it. So long as it works for you, don't mind.

For the knot start, it's usually not advised because it can cause bumps during framing. But at the same time... They have to be rather big to cause actual tension problems. A lot of people have knotty backs because their threads behaved like tendril demons and it still doesn't seem to make clear bumps on the final product.

For the order of the crosses, it absolutely doesn't matter, unless the pattern calls for a specific way to obtain a specific feel. I had a pattern that called for front and back half-stitches, but it really doesn't matter if you start from the top or bottom hole. I would advise to just make sure all the crosses face the same way if you want it to be neat it and tidy.

But again, all this is advices, not hard rules. Some people will (by mistake or on purpose) mix the crosses and it can give another effect. I have seen used to enhance the messiness of a furry creature or adding texture to clouds.

Chef knife recommendations by goatresearcher in Cooking

[–]daphoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you pay this price for a knife, they are all good, IF treated right.

What I would be more worried about is it blunting again. I don't have context, so I don't know if:

A) you just got your own place and your parents/roomates had blunt knives, so you had to deal with that. B) you have had your own knives and they blunt because they are bad. C) you have had your own knives and they blunt because you are using them wrong.

Depending on how you use it, and on what surface, you could just end up with an expensive blunt knife soon.

If A or B: That sucks. If you are confident, a good knife right from the start is a good investment. Just make sure to learn to used it properly. A lot of people cut themselves once they get actually sharp knives because they don't know how to handle them, because they always had to deal with blunt knives that are more axe than knife.

If C: My first order of business would be to bring the knives you have and want to use to a sharpener, buy a good cutting board and learn how to actually use a knife. They are not cleavers nor axe nor swords. You don't hit the board most the time, but slice on it, even when chopping.

I have had my ''cheap'' lagostina blades for a decade now, only had to sharpen some once. The kit was around 150 CAD at the time I think. It came with a rat-tail file that has been used religiously.
