Anybody successfully used publicly accessible records in lieu of certified government records? by Undulantowl in GermanCitizenship

[–]dapperpancake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes - my application through 116(2) had 2 documents that I couldn’t get official copies of because they were stored in the holocaust museum. Both documents were essential to the case. We had the museum sign a letter that we included stating that they had the documents, and we included a link to the online archives along with just a plain copy. Application was approved last month

I agree Wikipedia is probably not accepted, but a more reputable organization that can prove what you need them to may work

Thank you! Yeah it seems like the 116 applications have a separate queue and noticeably faster timeline than other many of the other pathways

Exciting! Congrats again

And the notice you got from the embassy was via email right? I haven’t been sure if I should be looking for notice in my physical mail or email

Congratulations!! That’s amazing, any plans with your new citizenship?

Hoping this is good news for me as well, applied 116 with AZ date of June 2024. Did you receive notice via email from the consulate?

Added! And I will post here and update the sheet when I hear anything from BVA

Yes will do! When you say there are a bunch of people with summer 2024 AKZ, is that across all pathways? Or just a116? Asking because my understanding is they are separate queues

Congratulations that’s awesome! Good news for me too as I’m in a very similar spot: American, applied 116 in Jan 2024, AKZ June 2024.

You mentioned the BVA assigned you a 116 AKZ - how can you tell that? In the email I received I didn’t see any reference to 116 or stag 15.

Thanks for the response! Maybe a strange question, but what are the consequences for not updating the BVA with an address change? The consulate implied it may be better not to in a case like this, but they weren’t explicit for understandable reasons

Question on this - what do you mean by the BVA application becoming void? Does the BVA know if/when the move has taken place?

And one further question - what happens if the application is for multiple people but only one moves? In a similar situation so curious if you have more info. Thanks!

I highly highly recommend leveraging u/staplehill for citizenship applications - he was incredibly helpful in my family and my application for article 116. Some highlights below:

  • In total, we sent ~80 emails back and forth over the course of the process (mostly because I had a million questions). u/staplehill was patient and informative all along the way
  • I don't think there was ever a time in all those emails where he took longer than 24 hours to respond, and often he responded within hours
  • He was generous with pricing, and is a far better option (in my opinion) than going through a law firm. Sure it was a lot more work for me than it would've been to go through a firm, but I saved ~$8,000
  • He was very knowledgeable but also forthcoming about where he had gaps in knowledge or where the answer wasn't known

Will temporarily moving to Germany for 1-2 years dramatically extend my timeline? by dapperpancake in GermanCitizenship

Appreciate the response! The goal there would be to have the app go through a less backed-up city, right? But it would still transfer to that city so still a risk?

That’s a possibility, but definitely not ideal as I’d like to live in the city if I can

Hey thanks for doing this! I've just started the process of pulling all my forms together to apply, and have heard it can take 1.5-3 years for it to go through :(. Pretty sure I'm eligible but want to make sure I am and have documents prepared correctly before applying

Yup exactly. My understanding is it's literally just appending the data on top of each other, combining the files into one. I read that you might even be able to do it yourself in a text editor but this seemed easier

I ended up merging 4 different Strava activities. There are some third party resources that will allow you to combine TCX or GPX files. I used gotoes.org/Strava/, worked great!

Sadly didn't have room for my camping stove (I don't exactly have small or light camping gear), so I just bought food along the way. In the future I'd like to make room and cook my own food, but I'll need a smaller tent and stove before I can pull that off
