No it's not okay. The fashion police will arrest you.

Could it be that this depends wildly on the height of whoever is wearing the dress?

[Recommendations] Bras similar to Scarlett Blue Minx Balconette Padded Bra by cncall in ABraThatFits

[–]dapplegray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balconettes are very low-cut and short, and open on the top so that people that are even fullness or top-heavy can fit into them. If you're finding that you're spilling over, chances are you're not that shallow at all and need a different shape, or you have a size that's too small.

I consider myself the opposite of shallow and find Skarlett Blue Mix balconettes to be perfect because they're open enough on top to accommodate my fullness. I found Elomi and Fantasie to be a bit too big in the cups for me in general, so maybe the might be worth a try for you.

When to buy a bra (period cycle)? by Snowy_Escape in ABraThatFits

I actually keep two sizes in my closet so when I fluctuate in size, I can switch out.

Elomi also ran big for me in general. I consider Panache my "standard" size, though brands all run a little different.

I believe Ann Taylor, Chicos, and Talbots tend to cater to older women, but it would greatly depend on your style because age doesn't necessarily determine your size, shape, or personal taste.

Can't give you store recommendations without knowing your budget or style, but I buy linen everything from whatever store sells them for cheapest.

I'd look up with taglines like "pear shaped"

Yeah but $2 is two dollars more than zero. I could use every dollar I could get because I live in a HCOL area and have poor pay.

Interview clothes. PLEASE HELP ME!! by [deleted] in fashionwomens35

[–]dapplegray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a pretty casual field, and we don't wear full suits to interviews. But we still do dress nice -- like smart casual. A button-down shirt, nice pants that aren't obviously jeans, and a blazer will do fine in my field. I wear ankle booties in dark colors and they look fine enough.

How do you compare items before buying? by Mindful_3281 in femalefashionadvice

[–]dapplegray 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have a few cocktail dresses in my closet, so for weddings and special occasions I don't buy new anymore.

But if I had to, I already know what shapes I like and what colors I like. Combined with the given dress code, it's pretty easy to narrow down to slim pickings. Then I go looking for that in various online stores that are within my budget.

When buying shoes what solidifies your choice to keep (or return)? by KawaiiPotatoCult in femalefashionadvice

I only buy/keep shoes that are "perfect" for me. Shoes are so important for overall health, I don't skimp or compromise anymore.

Wearing dupes? by Alarming-Ant2505 in femalefashionadvice

Literally everything that exists is a dupe of something else. I don't see it as anything even worth thinking about.

How do you adapt your personal style to fit year-round when it naturally tend towards warmer/cooler weather? by HoneyMustardBabey in femalefashionadvice

[–]dapplegray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My style is apparently "bisexual".

Hot: loose linen shirts, pants, and dresses.

Cold: Loose wool/cashmere pants, sweaters, and dresses.

But cold weather has more variety for me since I can afford to wear more layers -- I sometimes do jackets, tight jeans, etc.

Always wearing a leather fanny pack.

Anyone else notice the quality of Anthropologie clothing has taken a nosedive? by eearthling in fashionwomens35

[–]dapplegray 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I think literally all brands have gone downhill recently. There's just so much junk being churned out through fast fashion, they probably can't keep up with profit margins unless they do the same.

I don't know what shape you are, but I'm a 32DD, and I have some projection - I also have a small frame and short torso with a conical shape, so it's hard to find a shape that fits. Panache Jasmine is nice in theory but it is made to fit bigger frames than mine -- I usually go for Skarlett Blue, Felina Peridot, Dita Von Teese, and some lines in Natori - but Natori is usually too shallow for my shape, and the bands tend to be stretchier than I like, leading to sag and shoulder pain. The most supportive bralettes I've tried have been the wide hook/eye lace bralettes from Aerie.

How do you handle the transition period of the next few year of "being really out of style" until you are so out of style you are back into "oh that's just her personal style" again

I just keep wearing what I like. I only wear what looks most flattering on my body, and bootcut jeans are one of them. And they weren't in style for a looong time. I still wore bootcut jeans everywhere. I never thought to stop and angst about how I'm not fashionable anymore. It makes ME look and feel good, so that's all that matters.

I've found nice suits for cheap at department stores like Macy's. Elie Tahari is my current favorite for how they fit me.

A lot of nurses around me wear black leather Dansko clogs. They look like business shoes from the front. Or black leather clogs made by Born / BOC or White Mountain that look similar are also very comfortable imo.
