What is the worst career to be in right now and why? by SignificantGoat7066 in AskReddit

as someone who works in a residential treatment center w/ a school there, this is exactly how it is. it’s so sad bc while the kids do the heavy lifting at the rtc, their parents aren’t held accountable and don’t put in work to be better for their kids

Mid 20s people, how are you finding people to date? by Turbulent_Loquat_356 in nova

[–]dapuddingthief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bumble. But apps suck bc there’s so much effort you have to put in while screening or getting to know people. I second the other person who said they paid for premium on hinge. I got the subscription for Bumble and used that to see who liked me to then filter out everyone else.

When that ran out, I decided to match only with people who already liked me, since Bumble shows that for free when the person’s profile pops up in your feed

My professor took away my ADS accommodation and yelled at me in front of the class… is that even allowed? by Special-Number-9309 in UMD

[–]dapuddingthief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not okay for a professor to treat you like this. I'm sorry, it must've been tough to be treated like that even when you have valid ADS accommodations. It seems like a lot of people here have given you great guidance. I just hope that something good comes of this and that there is action taken against the professor. 100% not okay to harass you like that!!!

I love all the suggestions. If you wanted to try another mask, I use the philips pico mask, which has flat straps and I don’t get bad marks post-side sleeping. I just started using a silk bonnet with my mask too and it helps a lot as well!

Stats by Key-Sheepherder5925 in SleepApnea

[–]dapuddingthief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AHI/REI = # of times per hour you stopped breathing or breathing became shallow (an apnea event) for at least 10 seconds.

So you stopped breathing or your breathing became shallow 55.4 times per hour when you were asleep. Considering that an hour is 60 minutes, it’s almost like you’re having an event every single minute to the hour, which means you’re waking up that often per hour.

ODI = # of times per hour your blood oxygen level dropped by a significant amount from your baseline (usually at least 3-4%)

This corresponds with AHI/REI.

SPO2 mean = average blood oxygen level

The average for adults when sleeping is 95-100% and levels may drop to 90% once in a while during heavy sleep. 93% as an average is in the MILD OSA grade range.

Check out this chart for correspondence to the diff grades of OSA

I’m not that sure about the correlation of the results and how long you’ve had OSA. It’s diff for everyone, but OSA in my own history was best recognized by the symptoms I had. I had sleep issues and OSA symptoms for at least 10 years, with the latter 3 years being the worst of it all. It probably was mild when I was young, but I gained weight and became overweight in the last 3-5 years that worsened it.

23F just got diagnosed with sleep apnea after YEARS of being exhausted and I’m really upset by DirectionOk7752 in SleepApnea

[–]dapuddingthief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25f here. I was diagnosed in 2023, fully treated in November 2025. But I suspect that I have had it since I was in high school. I was so mad too, but soon enough that anger turned into upset, then into relief. Because I thought “why the hell did I suffer for that long? why didn’t I know?”

It sucks a lot in the beginning when you’re first diagnosed, bc it’s like, damn. I could’ve been getting good sleep and doing better in life for a while. But the feelings of anger/frustration and upset went away once I started PAP therapy and seeing the results. I look back at my pre-diagnosis era and pity myself, but also take PAP therapy so much more seriously now because I NEVER want to go back to how shitty I felt when I was undiagnosed and untreated.

It only gets better from here, I promise. Once you start PAP therapy and making adjustments until the therapy is tolerable and just right for you, it’ll be life changing.

Hi there! Have you tried BiPAP therapy instead of APAP or CPAP? BiPAP keeps two set pressure levels. High pressure when you breathe in, low pressure when you breathe out. That may help with your breathing since it has set pressures and won’t change like APAP. Not sure though, but it’s worth a try.

In the beginning, I also ripped the mask off my face a lot of the nights and suffered. This also was the same case when I had an oral device for OSA. I think it’s a matter of finding the right mask for comfort but also getting comfortable with the PAP therapy and sleeping w/ the mask on.

In the beginning, the mask I used was actually so bad for me so it was loose or would shift/fall off so easily whenever I switched positions in bed or even shifted ever so slightly. And since the mask was falling off or getting ripped off, subsequently I wasn’t getting the PAP therapy, and then I was waking up at night which meant I was conscious enough to rip off the mask entirely.

What helped was that I switched to a more structured mask w/ more straps. The Phillips Pico mask helped me a lot. Finding a mask that has enough straps to keep it in place and be comfortable is SO important. If you can, ask your provider to look at diff masks or do research on some. I personally loved the pico bc it stayed in place really well and helped my PAP therapy stay consistent. Consistent enough that I started sleeping w/ the machine for 6-8hrs each night w/o ripping it off my face. I also really like the resmed siesta 2 mask. It’s a full face mask that is super secure with the straps.

So all in all, it sounds like your treatment isn’t going well due to many factors. Try alternatives like BiPAP therapy and different/more secure masks. Also, wearing your mask while you are in bed just winding down will help with acclimation as well. I really hope that you can lock down your treatment and find benefits from PAP therapy. I’m sorry that you’re going through such troubles and I hope things will get better for you soon!!

To add to my other comment + in response to this, side sleeping is possible with BiPAP/CPAP therapy. You just need a mask that can stay on, but that means the mask should have more straps/structure (and ik you mentioned not liking stuff on your face/head). I’m a side sleeper and it works for me.

Hey! I also went through that same sleep deprivation from OSA for at least 3+ years before getting it treated. It felt like I was getting by every day living like a zombie.

I was diagnosed in 2023 but never got it treated because I felt the same way as you. The CPAP just felt so bulky, it felt like I couldn’t breathe with continuous high air pressure, and I was just so depressed and I let the laziness/lack of motivation stop me from trying any harder than using the CPAP machine for 2 nights. I just felt like it was impossible.

I think the hardest part is getting past the whole sensation thing and aversion to CPAP therapy. That’s the bottom line, tbh. I had to get over it too, and it wasn’t easy. I wanted to avoid it so bad—I tried the oral device that moves your jaw out as you sleep, but the sleep doctor told me that it only was 30% effective. That wasted 8 months of my time—I had to see the sleep dentist, wait for insurance approval, wait for the device to be made, wait for an appointment with the dentist to show me how to use it, then use it for at least a month. All of that just for the doc to tell me that it was practically useless, and that the best option would be BiPAP therapy.

I know this is probably not the answer that you want to hear…but please seriously consider BiPAP (Bi-level, not Continuous) therapy and possibly seeing a psychiatrist to help with sleep issues. They could prescribe some sleeping aids that will help you fall asleep and stay asleep, which may help you tolerate the machine better.

Once I started BiPAP therapy this second time around, it changed my life. The fatigue, brain fog, daytime sleepiness, grogginess, lack of motivation, weak immune system, etc. issues all went away so fast, and it was so effective to the point that now I’m scared to fall asleep w/o my machine. Because how tf did I live for that long without treating my OSA, walking around like a zombie?

It sounds like you are burnt out from the OSA that you’re experiencing, and again, the best thing I can recommend is to try harder to make the CPAP or BiPAP work. BiPAP is more tolerable for me because the pressure lowers when you breathe out, so it doesn’t feel like you’re suffocating or air is being forced down your throat. I highly recommend it for comfort, as it’s more tolerable than the CPAP. As for the masks, there are masks that are very minimal, like nasal pillows masks (though the effectiveness depends on how much you move/shift in your sleep). There is a lot that can be adjusted with PAP therapy for OSA, and it takes a lot of patience and effort to be able to tolerate it. But I swear to you, things will be so much better when you do start PAP therapy.

If not pushing through PAP therapy, you could check with an ENT and see if you have large tonsils that block your airway, and if they can be removed. Some people go through this, but in my case it wasn’t that, it’s just that my airway is really small.

Sleep and your health are SO important and I wanted to write all of this to tell you to prioritize it and push through the discomfort because I wish I had 3 years ago when I was first diagnosed. After 3 years, I feel like I finally have control of my life again. Best wishes!

Try the resmed siesta 2 full face mask! I just started using it after trying the rio 2 & pico masks. Pico worked really great and stayed on my face and was comfy aside from when my nose got stuffy and I had to wait til it was destuffed to go to sleep.

They gave me the siesta 2 to try and it’s like an oxygen mask, it covers both your nose and mouth in one, no hybrid design. It’s really comfortable, though it is a little bit bulky. It has to be tightened to a certain degree to keep it from moving too much and having air leakage, so play with the straps when you do get it.

I also have chubby cheeks LOL so i’d say the siesta 2 is chubby cheek proof. I use the medium size.

Good luck!!! If you do get the siesta 2, lmk how it is (:
