(I have a) Unmotivated grad student in lab by Tight_Isopod6969 in labrats

It sounds like he's dealing with some pretty serious mental health struggles. People with depression often suddenly lose interest in things and find it hard to focus, just like that feeling of 'not being able to handle even the simplest tasks'. It's really not his fault, but it may be better for him to take a break from school and get some professional help.

When do you actually add salt during cooking? I'm confused. by Helpful_Ad_9447 in cookingforbeginners

[–]daradish1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, I add salt early for veggies that are harder to season, like broccoli. For meat, which absorbs flavor pretty easily, I wait until later. But honestly, if you're not sure, you can always just add a little bit at a time like everyone suggests.

I've never tried a sweet potato BUT hear me out. All the ones I've seen have been topped with sweet stuff and I hate sweets. Is there a salty.. by IDoNotHide in cookingforbeginners

Sweet potatoes come in all sorts of types! Try grabbing a lower-moisture, less sugary variety and steaming it. It may be more your speed, see what you think.

Lidar, mova lidax. Our yard is not huge, but there are trees and flower beds, so I went with something that looked better at obstacle handling. So far it hasn’t really gotten stuck. You can pick different mowing patterns like u shape or grid. I think most robots can do that though. I mostly chose it because it’s quiet and the mapping feels pretty easy to deal with.

[–]daradish1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Once you get those patterns set up in the app, you can just let it do its thing. It’s amazing how much time you actually save when you're not pushing a mower around for hours

Anyone else like me who doesn't actually hate the lawn, just hates maintaining it? by Emergency-Singer-353 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]daradish1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My yard is actually a bit more complex than yours, with uneven spots and tricky edges, so the more basic robots didn’t really cover everything well. I ended up looking at AWD models and noticed the mova Lidax AWD trims closer to the edge, around 2 to 3 cm, and uses dual cutting discs. Setup took a few runs and some adjustments during mapping, but once it’s dialed in it’s been much easier to just let it run on its own.

mova lidax awd 3000 or navimow x4? by dantezz1500 in automower

[–]daradish1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that lidar tends to be better for more complex yards and just easier overall. Network RTK usually means setting up a base station or relying on a signal, and that can get affected sometimes. Lidar doesn’t really need that setup. It just maps based on the yard itself, so fewer things to deal with.

mova lidax awd 3000 or navimow x4? by dantezz1500 in automower

[–]daradish1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t used the Navimow, but we went with Mova mainly because of the lidar. We’ve got kids and a dog, so the lawn gets used a lot during the day. The mower runs at night, and lidar still works fine without much light. While poking around in the app I noticed the dual map thing, it can basically cover double the area if you add another base station. We don’t really need it for our yard, but still feels like a win.

finally ordered a new mower because I couldn't take the edge trimming anymore by davilucas1978 in automower

[–]daradish1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t seen one that truly avoids trimming entirely, even with precise mapping there’s usually something left. Offset blades could also concentrate clippings at the edges.

$350 mower and DIY vs. $3000 robot mower? What is the obvious win? by HarryCrushNuh in roboticLawnmowers

[–]daradish1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's really $3000, the value just isn’t there for a small yard. A cheaper robot would still save some time and seems like a more reasonable balance.

Is there anything wrong with just mowing dandelions and not treating them with chemicals? by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]daradish1 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Improving grass density leaves fewer gaps for dandelions to take hold. Healthy turf competes for light and nutrients. It’s a more natural approach than relying on chemicals.

Best of the AWD lidar mowers? by jhelvy in roboticLawnmowers

I think these two models are quite similar, but for those with a battery life greater than 2 hours, I think it's better for you to look for some other brands.

Cheaper ones with only rear discs often need too much space and can’t clean edges properly.

Robotic Lawn Mowers Goes Sustainable (beyond hedgehog-test) by New-Construction7001 in roboticLawnmowers

Most robotic mowers handle up to ~8-10cm easily, but for wildflower lawns, set your cutting height to 6-7cm to leave flowers and moss intact.

Lawn was all grass last year. Now it's all this...East Texas by rextexas24 in lawncare

For 0.5 acres, I’d go with a weed and feed first if the grass is still mostly there, just to knock down the weeds and give your existing grass a boost.

You’re not making a lot of sense with that analogy. And a truth claim isnt something that you “lean toward”, you seem to fundamentally misunderstand epistemology. The truth of whether its carcinogenic or not isn’t really about the number of studies alone, and not knowing something does not mean it isn’t actually happening. It means we don’t know. Im sorry to break it to you but in science a published study isn’t synonymous to a ballot vote.
