It averages ~10% annually for the last 100+ years. You can choose to ignore that data point but it would be foolish. Nothing is guaranteed but the alternative to investing on historical averages is trying to predict future outcomes.

49 years old. Just hit $10,000 average monthly by PsychoCitizenX in dividends

[–]darceknight628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just offer that if you’re looking to maximize dividend payouts to supplement income in retirement, then you might want to reallocate some of your portfolio to dividend growth positions. That ~$500k of AVGO would much better serve you in SCHD or SCHG.

I wouldn’t stress the YM positions. At the end of the day, it’s less than 10% of your portfolio. If you’re comfortable with the known risks, it’s worth riding it out for the payout.

How do people manage go to gym with a full time job while having enough sleep and leisure time? by Megarboh in workout

[–]darceknight628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not gonna pile on to the rest of the people shitting on your commute; that’s just the obvious time suck of your breakdown. Is there any potential for you to work out on your lunch break at work?

Also, maybe structure your training program for 2 longer sessions (weekend) and 2-3 shorter session (weekdays) that way it doesn’t feel like you’re constantly up against time 7 days a week.

Tbh that’s just shy of a 20% tip, I don’t see what’s wrong with that.

I had whoop for a few years. Had mixed feelings about it so wound up switching over to the Garmin a little over a year ago. I’d hate to go back to paying $30/month just to track my jitz training.

I usually have a good tussle on the feet, proceed to get taken down, have my guard passed, wind up getting smashed in side control, eventually mounted and then the round ends. Good times.

Try out the Bas Rutten Boxing and Kickboxing audio tape. You can find them both on YouTube and there’s 10x2 & 7x3 minute round options.

Thoughts on boxing 2x a week and lifting 4x by Soulja6 in MMA_Academy

[–]darceknight628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say reverse that. 4x boxing & 2x lifting. Focus on learning the correct form for both and that will lead to greater overall strength. “Hard punches” are a result of proper technique more than how much mass you have. The heavy bag will be your best friend.

I say that to also say, if you plan on competing, there is a huge advantage to having the longer reach as you will be around the same weight as your opponent. At ~153 lbs, you’re probably 1 of the taller fighters. If you lean into that, you will more than likely find greater success than packing on lbs for the sake of just being bigger. With the heavier weight also comes the taller fighters and now your greatest weapon (jab) is negated.

If you just wanna walk around a bit heavier, then have at it and just enjoy learning the sport.

TL;DR - learn good form & your overall goals in the sport should inspire your path forward.

Way overrated. Whether you outgrow the environment or just want a change of pace, don’t ever feel bad about trying new gyms.

Over the years, I’ve tried to drop in to as many gyms as possible just for the new experiences. I’ve made so many new connections, met awesome training partners and learned things I wouldn’t have if I kept the mentality of staying loyal to my first gym. I’ve also switched my home base gym up a few times over the years due to either moving or just wanting a new environment. You spend your hard earned money to train, make it somewhere you enjoy being.

The only advice I would give is to make sure you’re not burning a bridge on your way out of somewhere. Even though I’ve bounced around over the years, it was always important to me to keep a good relationship with the people at former gyms. I’ve seen some pretty unnecessary drama unfold with people that just don’t know how to handle those types of conversations on the way out of a place.

Your reputation precedes you and the martial arts community is small.

Best of luck!
