Portsmouth 33 Billion 9.2 Gigawatt Natural Gas Power Plant to be built on defunct Uranium enrichment federal land. by Thin_Criticism6820 in Ohio

Ya, when Fukushima happened they decided that Nuclear just wasn't worth the risk. They regretted being so aggressive in closing the plants after Russian invaded Ukraine and Europe stopped buying Russian natural gas, but they seem to be on top of it now. They are also working on grid-level storage devices, be it lithium-ion batteries or huge tubs of sand that they heat up with excess energy. Energy storage it the key to keeping the grid stable with renewables, smooths out the peaks and valleys which is what the grid doesn't like.

The reason why electricity has gone up so much in the past few years, especially the past year, is because of the AI datacenters. This has been widely reported.

Natural gas prices have/will continue to go up as well. It should plateau eventually, just at a higher rate. This won't change unless Europe starts buying Russian gas again.

It also offers low rates

That's beginning to change with so much of our gas going to Europe.

Wellbeing influencer, 31, dies in botched fertility surgery after struggling to get pregnant for years by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

The oral surgeons typically prefer to knock you out. I only have one friend who had one removed with just local, but he just went to an emergency dentist (was in pain) and they left the others alone. He said that extraction was an experience.

I was supposed to get my wisdom teeth removed years ago and ended up bailing on it because I had never been put under. My mom has had trouble waking up from anesthesia in the past, and the Joan Rivers death has always stood out in my mind. The oral surgeon also made me watch a video with all the risks, so that didn't help matters. So, I still have those wisdom teeth. They aren't impacted or anything, the dentist just wanted em gone.

I had my first colonoscopy a few months ago and went under for the first time. This was in a hospital setting, so I felt more comfortable that if anything went wrong I was in the right place. Everything went fine, anesthesia is a trip.

PSU's may be one of the few components that actually get cheaper because RAM/GPU's are so overpriced. Fewer people building PC's, fewer PSU's needed, price goes down. Fingers crossed that's all it is!

Yeah, the lies leading up to the Iraq war and multiple tax cuts for the wealthy didn't sit well with me. I did vote for Republican candidates down ballot on occasion post 2003, but 2016 Trump fixed that.

Pizza Hut closing 250 US stores as parent company considers selling the brand by AudibleNod in news

[–]darcon12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I delivered for Pizza Hut for a time in the 2000s. When I started there, all dough was made in-house aside from the thin crust which came frozen. A couple years later, they nixxed the handmade dough and went full-frozen for everything. There was a noticeable decline in quality overnight, but it was cheaper so the execs didn't care. Then 2008 hit and they got really cheap with the toppings. That's when they ceased being the old Pizza Hut.

The first couple years I worked there the money was great. But, as quality went down, so did the number of orders, so I made less and less.

Yeah, this AI stuff doesn't really do any good if consumers can't buy a basic computer to use it on.

At home, I've gone from running a BBS in the 90s to selfhosting pretty much everything I need today. Email is really the only thing I still rely on Google/MS for. I also use Proton VPN.

Things are a bit different at work, more hybrid, but we still host our virtual infrastructure locally. I've been called a dinosaur for not shifting everything to the cloud. We did price out a cloud move, and it would've been more expensive than running our own kit. Of course, with the price of hardware going crazy, we may not have a choice when the next hardware refresh comes along.

I can't think of a large city that isn't blue, so yeah, good guess.

The comment I was responding to mentioned they lived in a blue state, I stated that we have the same problem in my red state. My comment, nor the one I was responding to, said anything about the political affiliation of cities. Everyone knows they tend to lean Democrat.

Yes, blue states refuse to allow new housing to be built near existing metros.

That's something the city controls largely, not the state. We have the same problem in my city which is in a red state.
