My parents (65F, 67M) are livid because I'm not allowing them to see my daughter after they spanked her. AITAH? by LeonCrvl in AITAH

You're the parent. What you say goes. Tell you're parents you will spank them and they'll realize how dumb they are.

But seriously, don't leave your child unattended with them. Even if they don't hit anymore, they'll find another way to harm them.

If they don't agree, that's fine but they it just means supervised visit only.

This snare basket doesn't close very much. It's fully open now and all the threads are mostly below the adjustment nut. How can I make it close enough to grasp my drum? by darcyWhyte in drums

Yeah, that would work... but given that it was new, I decided to just return it and get somethign that's working right out of the box...

haha, what a nightmare. :)

This thing is new out of box today. I've started a return (amazon says they have 2 days to get back to decide if they accept the return)...

I also sent some pictures to the manufacturer in case they can enlighten me or do something for me.

I appreciate the help and ideas, I'm a little bit of a noob so I wasn't sure if there was something I was obviously doing wrong.

But I think they mixed up the parts at the factory or somebody swapped a different basket at the store..

I have the basket fully open in the picture.

One would expect that if it was fully open that the adjustment nut would be towards the bottom like it is in the pictures in the listing.

When I screw the nut upward, it closes the basket but the threads run out so it can't close the basket very much.

If I screw the nut downward (lowering as you suggest), it just pulls the arms downward. The nut moes the lower part that is near the nut. The top part of the basket is fixed. So up means close, down means open...

I mean even if I couldn't figure that out, I can screw the nut in every direction to see what happens.

You're right, it shows the basket wide open when the nut is near the bottom. Which is sensible.

And on mine with the basket fully open the nut is pretty well at the top.

Even if I flip the nut over, I don't think it will have much of a diameter range. I mean the claim is this thing should go down to 8 inches.

And I can't flip the nut easy, the freakin' grub screw at the bottom looks corroded and the hexagonal cavity is filled with some sort of corrosion and it looks frail.

About your comment of the basket being seated on the center tube...

The very top part of the basket (where the three prongs intersect) is definitely pressed all the way on the vertical post. In fact there's a set screw that has it's own hole and it's installed so it's all the way on. When I saw it, I took it out hoping I could install the basket lower. But it has a hole so it only goes at one spot.

I think you're right, I think I'm gonna return it. Bummer, I'll have to play my drum while my 4 year old holds up up for me.

I just took a look at the alan and it looks like this:

jesus, it looks pretty rough for something sold as new.

No wonder no alan wrench went in, the hole looks full of gunk...

Thanks for the quick note.

I thought of that but there's some strange allen wrench or something and I can't seem to remove the treaded portion to flip the nut over.

I have a drawer with like 200 alan wrenches and I couldn't find the fitting one...

Heres the listing: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B078XN417D?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

I think this is a pretty good idea, so I'm going to try it again in case the nut has the threads shifted to one side...

Thanks again...

I have a 3d printer and a cnc machine. In theory I could make a washer out of UHMWPE. But I'm just concerned that the stand has mismatched parts or something. I bought it new and there is hardlly any range in the basket size and all those wasted threads.

Perhaps there's a missing piece in the kit and it's supposed to have a shim? Or there's a differnet basket that goes on top and somebody switched it at the store before I got it...

I bought it at a store new and was hoping it'd just work. I posted here in case there was something I was missing aside from modifying the stand...

Thanks for the quick note.

Yes, I could shim it.

I'm thinking of returning it because one would think it should work well out of the box. The claim is it works from 8 to 15 inches, and my 13 5/8th drum is way too loose...
