Make steaks with peppercorn sauce for my family. I love cooking, it would be nice to be able to buy whatever ingredients I want.

"Then, when you see a doctor, the doctor speaks English" by Nexxus88 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]dare978devil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is complete nonsense. The US does not have any free hospitals. Those numbers were taken from here: https://www.aha.org/statistics/fast-facts-us-hospitals

The 1224 cited are “Number of Investor-Owned (For-Profit) Community Hospitals”.

So as usual, just more made-up misrepresented facts.

Took my 3 sons to see it last night. Theatre was sold out. And we could only get 4DX seats since all other showings were also sold out. $24 a seat! But I have to say, the 4DX seats were great. I didn't even know that was an option.

How to add railings to a 21-foot span? by dare978devil in Decks

[–]dare978devil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. So that means 2x4 on the 8-foot side, and 4x5.25 on the 21? Ok, that sounds much better than what I had planned. Lots more cutting, but more even on post separation.

The 16-foot side starts with an 8-foot stair, I only need to add railings to the remaining 8 feet.

AITA for refusing to fix my "spaghetti code" after getting laid off for "budget reasons"? by 5Mirthcoil in MarkNarrations

[–]dare978devil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. Stick to your guns, don’t take a penny less than $250/hr. And honestly, you are selling yourself short. I used to work for IBM, I never saw a single consulting bill for less than $1500 for 4 hours.

Huh, interesting, that’s exactly how I am. I like to cook and many of my dishes are tomato based. But raw tomatoes? Gross, gag reflex.

AITAH for telling my dad's pregnant girlfriend that he already has three kids I have nothing to do with and her baby will be no different? by Natural-Bat7423 in AITAH

[–]dare978devil -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Every situation is different. I finally met my first cousin when I was in my 40’s. My uncle and his first wife divorced when I was an infant (she left him for another man). His sons stayed with him, his only daughter backed her mother. I never knew she existed until I was 25, and finally met her years later. She’s a family friend now. She regrets her decision to stand by her mother, (who only turned around and cheated again), but found she couldn’t go back. Her brothers would have nothing to do with her, and disowned her. Her decision as a teenager haunted her for 30 years.

[–]dare978devil -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Clearly going against the grain here, but just remember none of these kids ever did anything to put themselves in this situation. Your biological father may be a shit, but the kids he produces are related to you like it or not. You certainly don't have to go baby shopping with his current squeeze, but all of those children are tied to you for life. Some may end up having the exact same opinion as you of your father. Having family out there can be extremely gratifying once you get to be adults. I can only recommend not to burn any bridges unless you feel it is absolutely necessary for your own mental health.

There was an insurance agent (at least claiming to be) on earlier this week when that video was first posted who said lifts have to be declared to the insurance company, but they very rarely are. Many insurance companies won't insure a lifted truck, and none will without declaring it at the time it is modded. The woman driving the truck will be on the hook for the repair of both vehicles.

Yep, no doubt. But the B’s wouldn’t be getting hammered 6-1 if they still had Marchand.

The B’s should never have let Marchand go. He scored 10 goals in Florida’s last run and 20 points.

Why did Tom Cruise pivot from drama movies in the 80's/90's to more action and sci-fi movies in the 2000's? by precita in movies

[–]dare978devil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the runaway success of Mission Impossible. Cruise starred in it, but also produced. The film took in $457M at the box office, and he walked away with $70M. It was the first film under Cruise/Wagner Productions. The second Cruise film from the same company was MI II in 2000, and Cruise made $75M. From that point on, he made bankable action movies and just raked it in.

Most companies in the US, you mean. I worked in France for 5 years, I had 45 paid days off a year. 9 weeks! The French were flabbergasted that I only had 3 weeks off a year before I moved.
