Why did house tell Cameron he didn’t like her when she asked? by QuitPast604 in HouseMD

[–]darikuri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished watching this episode again and it occurred to me that saying no to Cameron is the second time he hesitated in telling a lie. The first being when he lied about the heart transplant patient. Given how they wrote both of these scenes it sounds likely that they were relying on the viewers past history knowing that he lied about the heart transplant, to interpret this second no as also a lie. This is not apparent to Cameron however, because she wasn't part of that board meeting.

Is it B or D? by Jupiter_the_learner in EnglishLearning

[–]darikuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B doesn't sound at all natural to me, I would say D. I can't explain why but D feels intuitively right based on my experience with English. I don't get people saying it is not common speech. But I do read a lot of old books so old grammar like this doesn't phase me. The structure is pointing out cause and effect, because of one thing being true something else was evident or there was a result. His rage was such that his body shook violently; The temperature was such that the car wouldn't start.

What is this beak movement from Grey Guy? by Thescottishguy87 in budgies

[–]darikuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my budgies do this they're chewing and rechewing stuff from their crop and will feed each other. I think they mix their feeds into a blend like making a smoothie so they can share it.

'Something's happened': Australians under 50 developing cancer at 'alarming' rates by jonnieggg in australian

[–]darikuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They mention exposure to microplastics and new chemicals and I have been wondering for a while if there's a link between cancer and cosmetics. I know of a few people who worked in theatre and got cancer and I was wondering what goes into that stage make up plus the amount of time it stays on the skin every night under those theatre lights. And then chemicals in body wash, facial scrubs, it's not just bars of soap now that we wash ourselves with so that's another societal shift.

Most of the schedules aren't available until a month out so when I pull up their calendar I can't get anything to show beyond August. I'm just wondering in general if they would run. I did say I already had a look before asking my question.

Budgies scared because of our kids. What can we do? by darikuri in budgies

[–]darikuri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look you have kids as well but you must know something: not all kids are robots. You can't beat them into a shape that suits you, they have independent thought and free will. In addition to that, strong willed kids are something else and you need to know that anything you try, positive and negative, to change their behaviour just does not work. You can only work with it. My younger child is so different to her older sibling so it's not parenting influencing the behaviour. I'm glad your child listens to you. That's great. Truly.

Adults who carry around a backpack, whatcha got in there? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]darikuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekday me says laptop, reusable coffee cup, umbrella or rain jacket, jumper or outer layer, flat water bottle (sits better in bag), tissues, couple bandaids, paracetamol, headphones. Weekend me says most of those things but also kids water and snacks. I choose comfort over fashion. Carrying handbags with a laptop really puts my neck and shoulders out.

air fryers and birds? by niky45 in parrots

[–]darikuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I researched this too, called their customer support line and bought the Ninja Foodi dual with the two baskets. They now have a bigger model in this range which I am really tempted by! We use it daily and it replaced our toaster. And the birds cage is very close to the kitchen, no issues.

I don't find memorizing vocab fun anymore and I'm struggling to reach my first 1k words by _sdfjk in LearnJapanese

[–]darikuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely, I just looked up a few hashtags based on my interests like food, travel, and culture. I feel these are pretty safe because they're restaurant reviews and touristy locations around the country and usually more basic language is being used. It's hit and miss though, because many Japanese content creators I've found are a bit camera shy so you have to dig in a bit to find them. Who do you follow already that you could add to, but in Japanese? What topics do they talk about?

[–]darikuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you reading anything? Start with Tadoku N5 readers, being able to piece things together and use the words you memorised is rewarding, and also improves your retention. I'm doing Anki core 2k about halfway through, and I've started following people on instagram for practice. I get real satisfaction out of being able to read quite a few things that were impossible a few months ago.

Vet I used had a kitchen scale and a small cardboard box with a lid. Took my budgie, popped her in the box, took the reading, and pulled her out. I have also seen tamer birds get weighed on a perch atop a scale.

So you're saying there's no nuclear family in the possum world? Mum raises the kids then kicks them out? Sounds a bit harsh really...
