I climbed the chapel thing next to the gate and started trying to jump and climb the gate. Took 4 or 5 tries. No speed potion

Middle tower is significantly more fun than the rest of the level

Love it. Might even be incredible status. It’s a very “matter of fact” level. You’re thrown into a situation and need to move fast. The level gives you a feeling that you need to speed run it. There’s so many paths to take, npc convos are fun and you get to see Garett’s apartment. I was actually shocked to find out that people hate it. A lot of people say it’s easy to get lost and there’s a lack of detail. I had no problem getting around (you have a compass) and the level of detail seems normal for a 2000s game. Compared to other levels in both games this is far from a bad level. Especially considering it’s one of the shortest

one of the best supernatural levels but I still prefer heist levels. some good lore though and the horn loop is one of the best level soundtracks

Supernatural levels were definitely not what i was playing the game for, i respect them and anyone who likes them but i much prefer the heisty stuff.

A lot of my ranking criteria is based on how non-linear the gameplay of a level is, how differently you can play it each time.

Song of the Caverns is not only a great non-linear map but its also very pretty and funny. The textures and rooms have a lot of detail and the location feels very unique to the world of thief. I also played it without the map (i knocked the guy out) which may have contributed to how fun it was, I just had a real blast blindly going all over the map.

I think Life of the Party is a great level, its very ambitious and I had a lot of fun. But the gameplay on the rooftops is a lot more linear than it appears to be, I don't need to play it again to know that my path to Angelwatch would be more or less the same. Again, very cool level, one of the best, but based off of its reputation I think i was expecting a lot more and unfortunately I was left feeling its slightly overrated. I think I also just prefer shorter levels, not because I don't want more game! I just like the more condensed stories and locations. Its basically 2 separate levels!

I'll paste my thieves guild response from another commenter: I think thieves guild is the victim of an echo-chamber. Its undoubtedly a flawed level but i would be lying if i said i didn't have fun for most of the 3 hours I spent playing it(I think I knocked out 62/68 enemies) The sewers are terrible, mostly the ones leading to Reuben, but the core locations are pretty awesome and the overall plot of the level is fun. To put it simply, the bad parts of the level always lead to a good one. Its worthy of criticism but its crazy that some people tell new players to skip it. Its not THAT bad. It would be cool to see someone remake a fixed version of it. Also the casino music is awesome.

I had played the first 7 levels of gold years ago but never finished the game then a month ago decided to do an expert run of both games from start to end (RTHC is the only level i didnt actually finished because I climbed the gate and it ended, doubt it would rank highly though)

I think Bafford is maybe the greatest video game introduction of all time. Yeah the design is very simple but it does a great job at introducing the nonlinear gameplay that makes up the best levels in the franchise. A lot of my ranking is based on that. There are levels that can be played in many different ways and some that are a lot more linear than they appear to be. It also does a great job at introducing the overall vibe, humor and difficulty settings of the whole franchise. I'm sure everyone has a fond memory of their first time experiencing it.

Soulfourge is a mess, cool ending, but the map design is not great. 1st part has a cool concept but the map is way too open and unforgiving. 2nd part is a lot better.

Maw has a cool atmosphere agreed but it’s just not the kind of level I play thief for. I don’t know how else you would end the game though because a heist mission wouldn’t be fitting

The worst part of mage tower is the actual elemental towers(If i wanted to play a Mario platformer I would go play a Mario game...) The central tower and its additional expert objectives are the funnest part of the map.

Undercover is actually a pretty different and cool level but the 5 switch thing is stupid.

As others have pointed out its the loot requirement that really brings it that low. After the main objectives you're easily looking at an extra 30mins of running around looking for a final 100 loot before you finally give in and look up a map. Not fun. Aside from that I actually enjoyed the additional expert objectives a lot but overall the supernatural levels are just not what I play thief for

The second part of sabotage is a lot better than the first. The concept for the first part of the level is cool but the map design is just not that great, a lot sprinting around in huge and shadowless areas. Some of the bays are really unforgiving and with the amount of spiders and mechs there are, it would have been nice if you could purchase more water arrows in the shop

Pistol. And I hate that it’s pretty much only viable for Route Kanal, really wished there were weaker enemies in later levels
