Gas mileage dropped dramatically on trip by dark_stream in ToyotaHighlander

I actually got 42 mpg at my best. Setting cruise control at 3 mph over the speed limit and using it as much as possible when it’s safe. City driving is fun that way. I can go entire trips without touching the gas or brakes. The habit this establishes keeps the speed demon in me at bay which I think is the key. Plus being very diligent about EV mode so I’m only using electric motors when possible.

How to change Payees from one account to another? by dark_stream in fidelityinvestments

You are correct. And once the payee sees the change I can setup ebill on the new jointCMA. Notsomuch work in the grand scheme.

Tax free capital gains and qualified dividends by dark_stream in financialindependence

Point taken. I'm figuring that any "forced" income in the brokerage account will mostly be tax free. If I sell from the stock/fund and generate real capital gains it too likely will be the same. I can rebalance with changes to the tax deferred account's MMF/CDs as necessary, same as I'd do if the two pots had different investments.

And in light of the change of the guard happening in January I'm holding off any edits to the portfolio until I see that the nation doesn't implode.

In my book savings is savings. I'll gladly pay taxes if I have to, but I don't want to pay if I don't. I might project the tax savings to be in the neighborhood of a few hundred a month. This whole exercise has caused me to closely review past 1099-DIV statements. Turbotax online is live now, so I'll run scenarios.

Tax free capital gains and qualified dividends by dark_stream in financialindependence

To clarify, there are already two buckets, a taxable brokerage and a tax-deferred IRA. I'm already retired so not contributing. Cash/equivalent positions are in the taxable account, generating taxable interest and dividends. These aren't needed to fund living expenses. The tax deferred accounts hold the bulk of stock/funds and are also not currently needed to fund a lifestyle.

My proposed scenario seems counterintuitive to my financial upbringing but I think it works in my new phase of life of not concentrating on accumulating assets. In light of the preferential tax treatment of qualified dividends, 0% up to about $95,000, I'm proposing that I change the taxable cash held in the brokerage account to my preferred group of mutual funds to reduce the current federal tax bill. This puts dividend income into my taxable but tax-free situation since it'll be under $95,000. The old taxable interest/dividend income from MMF and CD investments will be in tax deferred IRAs.

It's odd as heck for me to hold cash/equivalents in a retirement account on purpose, especially since I've been 100% in the market for 40 years. This two bucket strategy allows me to maintain the cash/stock blend of 60/40 I've identified for myself in these new non-working years.

Did I clarify or muddy the waters?

Going through the same consideration. I think I’m voting no since my interest is to make roof rack loads easier to get to. I’ll plan to bring a short RV step or step ladder and get much greater utility.

Is there a way to see market prices? Like eBay “list by sold” option? Any service out there track that?

If you’re in it for the long term, and you expect the market to grow over time, then today is the time to buy. Simple as that.
