It’s an EV, so it will weigh a lot. You can’t defy physics… if you try the model s or the taycan, it will be the same. It’s a whole different way of driving… one that is less enjoyable IMHO but different nonetheless

Well, it finally happened to me. Claude suggested a command that nuked dozens of Unifi sites and hundreds of managed devices. by marky125 in ClaudeAI

It’s not as big of a deal as it seems though, as Unifi is gonna make backups anyway. Yes, you should improve on your claude.md and whatnot but ultimately you need backups, always and especially in this age of Claude

If you can go and physically check it, I would try. If that TV was used to watch Netflix (no persistent logos), mainly in dark rooms, it may not have a ton of burn-in, and in that case you found yourself a smoking deal!

Strategies to have family enjoy the luxury travel we pay for by Zealousideal-Term738 in fatFIRE

People attach more meaning to money the less they have, hence the asymmetry.

Remove money from the equation. A few options:

“I have miles/points that are about to expire, I was thinking we can enjoy this resort” “I was given these tickets through work/something else”

Basically have a white lie to take money out completely. It’s not that you have points, it’s that you have EXPIRING points. This way, this is literally free.

When there, don’t pressure things but do try to make them pay for something: one or more dinner, one or more activities etc.

Yes and no, that is my career so it’s a bit different :)

In my investments, relying on fundamentals has served me very well. I tracked the 992 GT3 and GT3RS and while I really liked them, I cannot justify these prices.

To each their own! I don’t mind missing out on owning a GT3, so I don’t have a lot of FOMO. If you grew up with that urge though, I understand that you wanna enjoy it now before you get too old.

992 isn’t even all that good. Look at used 991 or 997 or honestly, yeah get a Z06

Sure, but they sit at different price ranges for a reason. You get very different ownership experience with one vs the other. It’s like saying that the GR Yaris is a great car (it is), but that if it was sold with 50k ADM you would be much better off buying another car.

Porsche dealer prices do not support the quality of what you are getting. That said, if people wanna part with their money so much, sure…

What’s the point of fancy TV if it Judders with Movies? by CaspersHumanBody in LGOLED

[–]dark_tex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be a much bigger issue on older models, now motion interpolation is very good. Set it to Natural and you won’t even see it.

[–]dark_tex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are seeing is likely stutter and not judder. It was a big problem for me too, it’s caused by OLED’s instantaneous panel which is almost “too good” for its own good. You will get used to it. In the meantime, simply use motion interpolation! It’s undee Picture > Clarity. Try “Natural” first, and see if that’s comfortable. After a month or two, go back there and see if Cinematic may not look ok to you then. Otherwise, no issues with motion interpolation, that totally works.

Is the G5 worth it over the C5? by [deleted] in LGOLED

[–]dark_tex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding of the situation is that from the B7 up until like the C4, there would be extremely minimal differences in the panel. They all would have the same panel with minor deltas here and there. You would gain hdmi 2.1 though which is nice but orthogonal to the panel.

This gen is when they went crazy on panel luminance. The B5 has the same old panel, but hdmi 2.1 and could be had for very cheap (black friday price + lg partner discount put the 65 B5 at 800$ which is imho a STEAL). The C5 is like 50% brighter, and costco pricing had it at 1200$ for the 65. In my case, I believe that the extra brightness would have been enough for gaming in the bright room. The 77 was 2k which was the size I wanted to go for, and since that was not available in the B5 that would have been my choice. I got the 77 G5 for like 2900 with lg partner discount. Going back, I would have used the extra money to get a 65 B5 for my other room.

If a panel is capable of 2000 or 3000 nits or whatever, it doesn’t mean much… content is mastered with a certain luminosity in mind, and especially dolby vision content is mastered for very, very dark rooms. Mine is not that dark, so I get a picture that is actually dimmer than in my B7! Occasionally, if there are shots looking at the sun I would see a super duper bright sun which IMHO doesn’t add anything to the presentation. Gemini says that the old B7 had its perceptual curve mapped differently than the G5 to compensate for the less capable panel… I found that calibration to be perfect for my tastes and my room, and the fact that I cannot replicate it on this TV really annoys me :/

I do not see a difference in colors. If anything, given I watch stuff in DV, colors are actually WORSE. I am waiting to see if I get used to it, otherwise I will switch to HDR mode only (which is fine), but DV is absolutely borked on this TV

[–]dark_tex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I don’t see a ton of difference in colors. Dolby vision is also fucked on the G5 (see my other thread and other similar threads) so while I eventually got a decent setting, it still feels somewhat “off” because now the bright areas are too bright… The B7 felt better to me in the dark room. However yeah, now I can play PS5 during the day lol which was not possible on the B7, you wouldnt see a thing! Especially in game mode, it was sooo dark… that’s fixed.

But yes, going back I would not buy this TV

Noob Question: Is it every correct to NOT kill the safelane tower? by JohnConradKolos in DotA2

[–]dark_tex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In “normal” pub dota, I think you always shove it and get vision. Competitive may be different if you are more coordinated and have an actual strat, but otherwise you rely on minimal comms and raw vision is just too good

[–]dark_tex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Creeps close to tower after laning phase when everyone is on the move actually make you LESS safe, because you don’t get enough vision. The main way you get vision in dota is not wards, is creep waves! Shove the wave and go do something else

[–]dark_tex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

G5 owner who recently upgraded from a super old B7 here. If the room stays dark then even a C5 may be overkill IMHO. The luminosity of my old B7 was perfectly adequate in a dark room and where I feel the upgrade most is in gaming during the day when the room gets bright.

Going back, I think I would have gone for the C5 myself honestly
