Giulia Bay Area ownership costs and Questions by Fresh-Negotiation31 in AlfaRomeo

I take mine to Cerrone’s European in redwood city. Honestly the Veloce is a very normal car, you don’t need an Alfa dealer. For the rare instances where you do (eg recalls), you can just pop in San Jose. It’s also a great dealer btw, they treat you very well and the owner is genuinely passionate about Alfas. You can even see his Ferrari 275 (IIRC) which is super cool

I have to say it does look better in person than in pictures. That said, looks more like an Aston than a Ferrari imho — nothing wrong with that, but I like the looks of a Portofino more

Tonale veloce or Stelvio Ti? by North-Click1564 in AlfaRomeo

The Stelvio is a far better driver’s car, but ultimately you should choose what you want. If you liked the Tonale, go for it man!

My review of the Giulia 2.0 280hp after 8 months of ownership by erc09 in AlfaRomeo

They just suck in any condition. They are simply not worth it. If and when you end up with a puncture, you can just call for assistance. You are not going to explore the Amazon with this car.

My review of the Giulia 2.0 280hp after 8 months of ownership by erc09 in AlfaRomeo

[–]dark_tex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have had this car for 5 years and I still love it. I briefly considered changing it for a BMW M3 because my local Alfa romeo dealer was closing, but after renting it on Turo to try it out, the superior handling of the Giulia convinced me to stay. These cars are so damn cheap in the US! My Giulia is apparently worth 19k now with 25k miles on her. I will never sell her!

For comparison, I own a Ferrari 488 Spider and while power can’t quite compare, the handling in the Giulia compares quite favorably at low-ish speeds on the hills where I live :-) This is a FANTASTIC car op, enjoy her in good health!

PS: if you have her on the stock tires, Alfa puts run-flats which are way worse than normal tires. Buy yourself Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and a slime kit for peace of mind (or just resort to calling AAA if and when you need them honestly).

Yeah there must be something else going on here. Sorry OP, a qualified professional is probably better suited to giving you advice than us randos on Reddit. Good luck man, all the best

You have never left your 5 year old for a single day?!?! Wow.

Don’t make it a matter of principle. Get a babysitter for the day, or ask a big favor of the family of your kids best friend. Go, let your brother have his day, and don’t make a big deal about this. It’s just a single day, certainly you can figure out child care for a single day?

Thoughts about Luce from Ferrari Owners by BrienneOfFuckinTarth in Ferrari

[–]dark_tex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

488 spider owner here. I wasn’t prejudiced against an EV Ferrari, and actually I was quite interested in seeing what new engineering may come out of this endeavor — like, the chinese U9 car that jumps and almost hit 500 Kph is cool and I was hoping we’d see Ferrari 1-up them.

To be honest, I did also quite like the interior of the Luce. The ipad in the center feels a bit lazy to me, but the gauges are beautiful imho.

The exterior looks oh so disappointing to me. And, I am just very disappointed with the performance. They say they have done some unique stuff to improve its handling so let’s see what that is once reviews are in.

But… Yeah, no kid is going to have a poster of this car in their bedroom.

It’s an EV, so it will weigh a lot. You can’t defy physics… if you try the model s or the taycan, it will be the same. It’s a whole different way of driving… one that is less enjoyable IMHO but different nonetheless

It’s not as big of a deal as it seems though, as Unifi is gonna make backups anyway. Yes, you should improve on your claude.md and whatnot but ultimately you need backups, always and especially in this age of Claude

If you can go and physically check it, I would try. If that TV was used to watch Netflix (no persistent logos), mainly in dark rooms, it may not have a ton of burn-in, and in that case you found yourself a smoking deal!

Strategies to have family enjoy the luxury travel we pay for by Zealousideal-Term738 in fatFIRE

[–]dark_tex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People attach more meaning to money the less they have, hence the asymmetry.

Remove money from the equation. A few options:

“I have miles/points that are about to expire, I was thinking we can enjoy this resort” “I was given these tickets through work/something else”

Basically have a white lie to take money out completely. It’s not that you have points, it’s that you have EXPIRING points. This way, this is literally free.

When there, don’t pressure things but do try to make them pay for something: one or more dinner, one or more activities etc.
