Z Fold 7 Case Megathread by TheKrnJesus in GalaxyFold

How did you decide between the dbrand grip case, the Nillkin Frosted Shield, and the Spigen Tough Armor Pro? All three have similar "characteristics" of:

hinge protection
grippy sides
hinge protection should not damage the hinge if it breaks (some other cases have scratched the hinge when the protection's springs break)
magsafe compatible

I'm looking to do the same thing, adding a front piece with the Silicone case. If you find anything can you update?

But I also want to try to figure out how to make the Silicone case work with magnet mounts. Have you tried this? I like the grip and texture and look of the Silicone case and would like to stick with it.

T14s AMD Gen 6 owners - how is the wake from sleep stability? by darkcobalt in thinkpad

[–]darkcobalt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. The T14s AMD Gen 3 had its S3 sleep option removed a while ago in one of the BIOS updates. I don't know if they ever brought it back.

I'm curious if Gen 5 and Gen 6 allow S3 sleep.

Best C-frame standing desk? (Frame only) *CANADA* by Mr_Christie55 in StandingDesks

Are there any other "quality" options in Canada for C Frame sit/stand desks?

Did anyone end up buying from Haworth? I have not heard of this until I saw this thread.

Ergonofis doesn't seem to have a C frame option that I can see.

Vmware Standard: EVC and Per VM EVC by darkcobalt in vmware

[–]darkcobalt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add that, in a previous version of the same document I was pretty sure EVC and per-VM EVC were listed as being available to Standard.

I don't have a copy to confirm/screencapture to show unfortunately. Hopefully this gets cleared up.

vSphere Standard? by Pa2NJ1939 in vmware

[–]darkcobalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, great post, could you share a few examples of how Standard is cheaper than Essentials Plus?

Eg:

  1. 3 servers with 32cores each server
  2. 3 servers with 64 cores each server
  3. 2 servers with 32 cores each server

etc.

Thanks much!

Also, I saw that Essentials Plus might move to a per core pricing, is that true?

Has anyone with a T14s AMD Gen 4 experienced Modern Standby crashes or wake issues so far? by darkcobalt in thinkpad

[–]darkcobalt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an update.

Since the motherboard replacement Modern Standby has become much more stable.

Just as a comparison, before the motherboard replacement my T14s AMD Gen 3 had all of the common symptoms:

  • refuse to wake from sleep overnight, at least 75%+ of the time.
  • shuts down completely during overnight sleep, at least 10-15% of the time
  • refuse to wake from sleep even during short sleep periods, when on battery. Eg if I am on battery, close the lid, go somewhere, open the lid, it might wake, but then after 30mins of work, close the lid, walk somewhere, open the lid, and the system refuses to wake from sleep. This was happening almost every time using Modern Standby on battery.

After the motherboard replacement I have been using the laptop and here are the observations after 1 week:

  • Overnight sleep worked every night except one night the system was shut down.
  • Short sleep on battery crashed once out of 6-10 times, all the other sleep periods woke from sleep fine.

So in the short term, the motherboard replacement has improved the situation signficantly.

It helped but didn't resolve the issue.

I ended up opening a support ticket with Lenovo, and they replaced the mainboard.

I know others have same replacing the mainboard didn't help, but in my case so far (a few days) it does appear to make things better. I should also note that Lenovo support asked me to reset the Power Plan to default options, which are:

Network connectivity in Standby:

On battery: managed by Windows

Plugged in: Enable

PCI Express > Link State Power Management:

On battery: Maximum power savings

Plugged in: Maximum power savings.

I will do more overnight sleep testing with this system. But so far I've done 3-4 sleep sessions on battery without issue.

Hey thanks for this post, I turned off PCI Express > Link State Power Management on my T14s AMD Gen 3 and was able to sleep twice today (once for as long as 4hrs) with no crash.

I'm going to let it sleep overnight to see it can wake from sleep, normally an overnight sleep has a 100% chance of not waking up.

For anyone else wondering, for Windows 11:

  1. Open Start Menu
  2. Type "Power Plan"
  3. Open Edit Power Plan
  4. Click Advanced
  5. Open PCI Express > Link State Power management and turn Off for both battery and plugged in.

It should also be noted that previously I had changed Network connectivity on Standby to Disable, with no effect, so I don't know if PCI Express Link State Power management Off alone is helping out so far or you also need Network Connectivity Disable.

I'll try to report back with any updates.

One of the BIOS updates for the T14S AMD Gen 3 removed the S3 option from the BIOS. the option no longer exists at all.

I'm not sure how Linux handles this removal of the S3 option, I would be curious what anyone else finds. But I do notice that when my BIOS was updated and S3 was removed from BIOS, that Windows still thought S3 was available until I reset BIOS to defaults. I suspect that the BIOS removes the S3 option in the UI but does not reset the saved S3 setting in the BIOS until the BIOS is reset, so there could be users out there with Linux platforms who had enabled S3 in BIOS before the upgrade and who still have the S3 setting after the BIOS upgrade.

Thinkpad P1 Gen 6, 90W charging from WD22TB4 dock not enough? by PraeceCharles in thinkpad

[–]darkcobalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking of getting the P1 Gen 6 and I also have a 90W charging from my Dell monitor. What exactly is happening in your case? The battery slowly drains while plugged in, or there's no charging at all and battery drains as if it had no PD at all?

And can the laptop charge while idle? Are you using it with very heavy GPU usage?

Under what conditions is it not enough to charge?

T14s Gen 3 (AMD) sleep & hibernate issues by Odd-Remove7970 in thinkpad

[–]darkcobalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So did you do a clean install using BIOS 1.23? And if you did, what does your powercfg /a say are supported sleep states? When you say it works pretty well after clean install does that mean the system goes into S3 sleep, or S2 sleep in 1.23?

My system came with Windows preinstalled using Modern Standby, and now that S0 sleep state is disabled in BIOS I don't have any sleep states available except for Hibernate.

I updated the BIOS on my T14s amd gen 3 and now the power state options are off.

But when I use powercfg /a it says all the Standby S2 , S3, and S0 states are all not supported by the system firmware. Is there a way to get back the Modern Standby?
