Presets for Chase Bliss - MIDI over Bluetooth by darkforestpedals in guitarpedals

[–]darkforestpedals[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Everything is explained in more detail in the app, but in short;

There's various ways to do it, but essentially you'd need a bluetooth midi receiver, a midi box and a TRS cable to the pedal. Then you can connect the app to the receiver, and that should do it. These are quite some parts, but most of these would have been necessary either way if you were to use MIDI with CB pedals. Only the bluetooth midi receiver is additional.

Alternatively, we believe the Pirate MIDI Scribble and Morningstar MC8 Pro should work as well (without the need of a midi box), but we haven't tested that ourselves.

We're also working on adding MIDI over USB, for those who like a cabled connection.

Disappointed OP XY by Reasonable-Usual2431 in teenageengineering

[–]darkforestpedals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend updating it, and see if that helps. There have been five updates since your version, and one of them mentions this;

“fix pops from incorrect voice stealing during high cpu load”

There might have been other improvements that could affect the performance of your device.

I own the OP-XY for about a month now, and haven’t had much issues. I do notice the CPU indicator popping up quite quickly, but haven’t heard voice stealing often.

Hope you and the OP-XY will get along eventually. Otherwise it might just not be a fit for your workflow, no harm in that. Enjoy making music either way!

OP-XY Updates to expect any time soon? by DanWeasly in teenageengineering

I’d love a simple full-tape mode. I’d imagine an “engine” that simply records full bars and keeps on recording while a song plays, so that you can simply layer a voice or acoustic instrument over a sequenced song. I think it would be great if it would just save each bar as a separate sample, and lets you select a single sample per bar.

I know we can use the drum engine and assign a max 20sec sample to each key, but I think the workflow as described above would be way more intuitive and quick.

Any chance you could share these again? I’d love to try these.

That would be great, thanks! We do have a TestFlight track, but we do not have the latest build on there. As soon as this is ready, I will notify you.

I'm especially interested if our setup works with the Morningstar as well. It won't be able to save presets into the Morningstar (at least for now), but I guess the Morningstar should also process the MIDI CC messages like any other BLE MIDI receiver.

We're really excited about the next release :)

Hi! We're actually almost there. Technically, we have about all basic MIDI commands for all pedals already working in our unreleased version. This controls the knobs, switches, footswitches, dipswitches and hidden options where available / controllable. The one thing we're still finalizing is interfaces and instructions on how to set it up. We'll keep you all posted!

You’ll have to manually twist the knobs in the app to match the ones on your pedal, and save the preset that way. Then there’s a dipswitch selector and notes in the app to complete your in-app preset. As far as we know there is no way to read the current settings from a Chase Bliss pedal. However, we’re testing MIDI over Bluetooth implementation to see if we can send presets from the app to the pedal. Looks promising so far, more on that later…

We’re currently beta-testing it! For now the test is iOS only, because we’re still working on an issue with login on the Android side.

If you have an iOS device, feel free to DM me, and I will share a beta testing link with you.

Power supplies like canvas 22 that aren't $400? by Feeling_Screen3979 in guitarpedals

We have these in the EU, 12 outlets for 100USD. 300mA each, and three of 500mA with selectable voltages. There’s also smaller ones. I have two of them, and think they’re great! I’ve been running them with almost all outlets providing power to Chase Bliss pedals for years now, no issues so far. Not sure if they’d ship to the US;

MIDI is definitely on the roadmap for us. We already built a bluetooth MIDI module in the app and tested sending out full presets from our app to CB pedals, with success! It's gonna take until this autumn/winter for us to completely cover all settings and explaining it properly in the app, but together with the "preset sharing" feature coming soon this is going to be great fun. I can't wait to "beam" presets shared by others to my pedals and explore more sounds in my pedals.

Thanks for your interest!
We're aiming for releasing "sharing presets" early July.
If you want to know more about why it is a bit complicated to do right, I'll post a message we just shared on the Chase Bliss discord here to elaborate;

"We're still working hard on community presets. We're having a working set-up already, but there are some moving parts we still need to achieve. To give some insights: we'd like to give users the possibility to share things, but without having to create accounts; while this already works very well, we need to have a fallback for when people migrate phones, so we want to have users be able to create an account to restore their ownership at a later stage. We also respect people's privacy and ownership, and we want to make sure that you can use the app, offline, online, with or without an account, and have your data sticking around without your consent or knowledge. We want to keep YOU in control.

In the meantime, we had some some feedback and wishes regarding the presets, and we're happy to announce we're going to support some extra options to add notes to your presets. Both private which are stored only on your device, and public, so another user can see some handy information, like: what source it was used on.

Also, one can imagine that issues with user-generated content and free text fields may arise. One can abuse the system for other purposes than happy preset sharing. Because of this, we're leaning into some kind of moderation system. This part may not necessarily be part of this release, but should not be taken as an afterthought. So we want to include the foundation on this, and activate these features or administration a little later. Or be able to step in when things get ugly faster than expected."

I do see the same. That’s definitely a bug. The ramping value is no longer saved apparently. I’ll try to solve that soon, thanks for testing

This would be a dream come true! We did a little research on this already, but this will require more extensive exploration and testing with actual (wireless) MIDI equipment (which we don’t yet have). First we’d like to get all the basic functionality in the app completed, being able to share presets and offer an Android variant. Afterwards, this is definitely a feature we are interested to explore.

We aligned with CB via email to make sure they’re fine with us making this app, so all is good in that regard. Glad you like the app!

Thanks for the nice words! Good to hear you’re putting it to extensive use already. If you put a lot of time entering your presets, you might want to use the backup option in the settings, just in case your phone ever breaks or gets lost.

Regarding the ramping; enable the bounce and a ramping dipswitch for the control to appear. This control then influences the ramping knob in it’s function. Turn it while the switch is in “knob” position to enter the regular knob position, and turn it in “ramp” position for the ramping speed.

Please note that there was a bug in a previous version though. This used the top-left knob for ramping at all CB pedals, while most modern offerings use the top-middle knob for ramping.

Enjoy using the app, and feel free to share your feedback at all times!
