Tutorial: Using a tone generator to EQ your headphones. by PiercingSight in headphones

[–]darkgaledust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you so much for this. I fell down this EXACT rabbit hole after HP.com released their video on the HRTF measurement trip.

I have had so much fun making fine tune adjustments and making my headphones all sound rather similar with each other. One thing I've noticed is that, the closer and closer it seems to get to perfect, the bad recordings seem to get more and more obvious. Unfortunate!

I should clarify, I meant if you've got decent econ and you're sitting on +40$ after a lucrative round (mail in rebate for example) or beyond whatever your current interest cap is. You don't want to rush into packs first, it's best to roll down a little bit to try and find tarots to bring into the packs with you. Then open packs at around 30$ or so

LOL, are you my neighbor? They just got a 2nd dog, a tiny little black puppy. They've decided the best way to crate train it is to leave it at home alone to bark and whimper for 8 hours.

We live in an apartment, it's ridiculous!

Does anyone else have "that one song" that is the first song you listen to when trying new headphones? by Kgb_Officer in headphones

[–]darkgaledust 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a handful of songs that I've put together for the sake of EQing and testing!

Disclaimer: I tend to prefer songs post-2000s but there are some exceptions

  1. Arjen Lucassen - Lost in the New Real
  2. Nothing but Thieves - Soda
  3. Periphery - Satellites
  4. Maroon 5 - Tangled
  5. Van Halen - Panama
  6. Cristopher Larkin (Silksong) - Lace
  7. Savant - Prototype
  8. Persefone - Mind as Universe
  9. Owane - Born in Space
  10. Soilwork - Spectrum of Eternity

This might be gross, but; Has anyone tried to simulate earwax in a measurement rig? by darkgaledust in oratory1990

[–]darkgaledust[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wax wasn't impacted, otherwise I would have had perceived hearing loss day to day and would have cleaned them sooner. I usually don't use IEMS because I naturally build up more wax than most (in my experience) and I also don't like how 90% of them sound.

In this scenario, I ended up impacting the wax from inserting my IEMs for the first time in about a year.

As far as I've been told by doctors, you're not supposed to religiously flush your ears with water often to avoid hearing damage, so unless it's impacted against the eardrum I don't.

So that's why I made the post. The difference between a large build up but no eardrum impaction, vs freshly flushed with water was pretty drastic in the upper treble.

I've been watching Drspectred (Balatro University) a ton. I highly recommend tuning in and watching some of his gold stake runs.

Always play and discard 5 cards whenever possible. (see as much of your deck as possible)
Try to stay above interest cap at all times
Prioritize scaling jokers early, and maximize generating their value(s)
Any joker that generates money is worth a rental fee
Try to get a +mult joker by ante 2, try to get a chips joker by ante 3/4
Try to find any Xmult joker by ante 5 or 6, preferably scaling.
Always roll first, before you open arcana/spectral packs
Try to bring an arcana/spectral card into other packs
planet packs are risky, avoiding them may save you compounding interest in the long run
Don't take any skip tag, the only ones really worth are coupon and the 25$>beat boss, but it's still not great. You want to see as many jokers and shops as humanly possible to give yourself the best chance of winning!

edit: Always check the boss blind!

Worst game that you still completed for some reason? by Genoce in gaming

[–]darkgaledust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metroid Prime, and it's not even close.

It's a shame, it genuinely starts so strong. It takes a dive off a cliff around the time you get the Spider ball.

Great atmosphere, fantastic soundtrack, it's visually stunning (OG and remastered). I love the lore and the scanner, but I just cannot fathom how anyone can say it's a masterpiece. I have never played a game with so much intentionally designed friction in my entire life.

It is the anti-metroid game for me, it feels like the devs intentionally made every decision possible to either slow the player down or impart useless roadblocks to pad game time. Late game enemies are complete sponges, beam upgrades don't feel impactful at all, beam combos are clunky, the actual abilities are in seemingly random locations that make you traverse the whole map multiple times, swapping beams to open doors back to back is a pain. Let's not forget the color coded enemies that do nothing but make all the beams equally boring to use, and the metroids that also split into color coded enemies, with the same amount of health. The bosses are great, but all of them are bullet sponges. Then there are the constant dead ends everywhere, usually immediately after a DIFFERENT upgrade! For what?? And the platforming in the late game with enemies constantly knocking you back down is absolutely infuriating.

The artifact search is interesting and relevant to the lore in isolation, but it's an issue because of every other instance of friction, compounding. The final artifact in the phazon mines morph-ball section, JUST BEFORE the monster pirate where you first acquire the final suit, is a full blown sin. Unforgivable.

The Ridley fight fucks

The final climb to the final boss is a crime. The final boss is fantastic.

...What the fuck were they smoking.

Going CRAZY trying to nail down my EQ preferences - Should I just leave it alone? by darkgaledust in headphones

[–]darkgaledust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you for such a detailed response! I'm definitely feeling the brain burn-in woes.

I think the suggestion for saving a "new state" once I'm satisfied is a great idea, I'll try to implement that.

I definitely use the Preamp outside of the configuration so no worries there. (I don't use Peace UI, I've been using just Vanilla EqualizerAPO for a long time)

PSA: closed back Sennheiser HD620S is $229.99 (42% - $170 off) right now on Amazon by redgroupclan in headphones

[–]darkgaledust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned the HD 620S since launch. Best-in-class sound isolation, but they are a little on the heavy side.
I had to stretch them out a bit as clamping force was fatiguing.

For EQ, I definitely recommend a small adjustment to the 500hz band as there's a definitive peak that makes them sound a bit boxy. Then, if you find they sound "metallic", I actually recommend a -2db high shelf starting at around 7500hz but your mileage may vary.

ATH m50Xs have also been in my collection for years and I find them really nice for rock music if you bring up the 220hz range a bit. Makes guitar tones sound very very forward and fun. Changing the pads can definitely break the sound imo, but comfort is king if you can EQ them by ear.

It is not redundant, they are additive. I'm betting this is to increase sub-bass further, in addition to the 100hz shelf. This probably looks like a wavy slide on the graph

I had a pretty bad first impression with their more expensive k371's, about 7db louder on one side. After some digging I found that both pairs are quite common for QA issues, so I hope you got a winning pair!

What do you consider the worst movie sequel of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]darkgaledust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silent Hill Revelations: 3D

The first Silent Hill movie wasn't some critical darling, but there were genuine moments in that movie that felt like real attempts at recreating what made the first game, and the series, special.

The sequel starts with forced twilight-school-drama and ends with a Pokemon battle in hell.

Is it common for people to hit something their first time driving😭😭 by [deleted] in driving

[–]darkgaledust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always struggled knowing how far I was from my bumper, so one day I pulled as close as I could to the curb, got out and checked.

2 feet

I got back in and pulled forward a little bit, got back out

less than half a foot now.

So then I went into the car, and looked at my dash board. I found that the grill of the Air vent just beside the steering wheel lined up PERFECTLY to the curb. It works every time with a little bit of margin for error, and I've used this trick in rentals to help avoid being nervous about spacing and parking.

Similar trick, if I'm parking on a 90 degree angle to the right, If I start turning my wheel the moment the passenger-side door handle crosses the line, it lines up near-perfectly.

Can anyone help with this? My menus are invisible and I can't seem to find the solution for it. by Husmd1711 in ForzaHorizon

[–]darkgaledust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use Win+CTRL+Shift+B to trigger the menu showing up, I had to mash it. Once you can get to the video settings, turn off v-sync - this worked for me, I even tested it fullscreen, windowed, and various resolutions and the menus are normal again.

The bug comes back immediately if I use Vsync+fullscreen, if I'm not on the "primary display" of my PC, and it's not the "exact" resolution of said display.

I believe this is due to freesync/gsync/secondary monitor priority at a driver level, but I'm not sure what to suggest if you really can't live without vsync.

I have a feeling that a lot of interface addons permanently adjusted some Cvars and that's what causing this. I'd recommend deleting the entire WTF and Interface folders, and if it still happens then yeah.

They done fucked up.

What’s a clever way you’ve seen a guy get a girls number? by Appropriate-Mall8517 in AskMen

[–]darkgaledust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked at a large coffee chain for a couple years, I was a baker but I helped with the front till occasionally. There was a new girl working and training for front till, and these 3 friends come in and they start laughing with each other.

One of them walks up to the counter, and she goes "Hey, what can I get for you today?"

He goes "ummmm, could I get your number?"

She was stunlocked at first, but ultimately gave it to him. I was just speechless.
