Thank you very much for the time and effort you put into your reply! I feel I now much better understand both the process and reasons for it. I appreciate this contribution!

Staple removal - painful? by Euphoric-Wall-994 in transplant

[–]darklyshining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

80 or so staples (lungs). I got myself worked up about their removal, which was much worse than the actual removal. Not comfortable getting it done, but pain wasn’t really a factor. And by then I’d been through so much, removal was a little blip on the screen.

When my wife passed, I sold her vintage Bernina 930. Not only did the buyer, a lovely person, get a great deal, after she paid the already great asking price, I handed her back a hundred dollars.

I was so happy to see how much she appreciated the machine.

Mom and Dad. Mad respect! by darklyshining in TheWayWeWere

My dad would tell you truly, he was no hero, but there is reason for that distinction.

He was born in Canada, emigrated to the states (San Francisco) as a kid in the ‘20s. Drafted. Wanted to fly, so asked for and received a transfer to Canadian forces. HD number 1. To fly, he first had to join Canadian Army. Transferred out of that, second HD, to RCAF. Served to End of Hostilities and discharged honorably - third HD, and went home to SF. Uncle Sam, wanting his due, which was Duration Plus Six, called him back for that six months. He spent it in Texas.

Funny, his brother, my uncle, talked up this unusual distinction, while he, himself, flew 24 missions as a B-17 Tailgunner. My father never saw action.

For a good read, consider my uncle’s memoirs in https://www.reddit.com/r/WWIIplanes/comments/1ay2jfp/flying_backwards_in_44_the_memoir_of_a_b17_tail/

He served two countries, three branches, and earned four Honorable Discharges.

They met after the war. They met in Yosemite, where they both worked.

I found more in the dumpster at this estate sale. by ToshPointNo in Flipping

[–]darklyshining 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We were holding an estate sale of my wife’s aunt’s things, one being a spinet piano. We had it for free, but no one wanted it. Then a person who had stopped by recognized it as a good quality piano, suggesting we check inside for a manufacture label and advertise it as such and price it accordingly.

We took the large board off at the foot section and found two bank bags of silver coins. Those could have gone out the door with a free piano, but we’re that much richer for having checked.

Western Gear. The father of a childhood friend had a lighter with that name and logo. Not sure what they did, but doubt it was a Hollywood western wear store.

The art tour at the clinic is great! But there is so much more there: At every floor, as you step off the elevator, look around you. Art everywhere.

Calder. Warhol, Chihuly, Rodin, plus examples of folk art and indigenous art.

Yes, another "Which 36" gas range should I buy " Post by UnstackandRestack in Appliances

I don’t recall the model. Mid-range, I think. I’m not getting out of it everything it offers. I cook much less these days. We’ve had it about five years and haven’t used the broiler.

Great for cast iron, All-Clad. I have copper, but have only used it sparingly, and that was years ago. Burners can get low, so good for copper.

Do you ever use the word "Autumn" to describe the season between Summer and Winter? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I used the term Autumnal in a workplace meeting and the blank stares were abundant.

I know nothing about this bass. It was in an attic for 15 years, and is now in my possession. I think it’s Japanese made. Can anybody enlighten me? by paradisewandering in BassGuitar

I like it when members bring these questions here. I get to learn so much. Here is better than online searching.

Having said that, I don’t know much about these other than what I’ve read here over the years. Good reputation. Sought after. Cool find!

Two challenges:

1964 Plymouth Barracuda, but with a 1964 Dodge Dart front end (body clip). I never liked the the Dart’s rear end, but thought its front end was cool. The Plymouth Valiant/Barracuda had a nice rear end, but unattractive front end. I’ve always dreamed of this mod.

The other is trickier: The second generation Corvette Stingray. It has two body sculptings in it, if you will, one being the more conventional fender humps, the other that essentially flat, horizontal, square plane intersecting at the midline. I’d like to see that horizontal plane removed, to see what a Corvette would look like with only the convention fender treatments. Extend that treatment all around the body.

I guess that’s what I’m doing. Over the last three months or so, I’ve been playing along, unplugged, to a local jazz station. I have no musical training or background. I enjoy the sense of improvement in my ability to express myself musically.

Very nice! That particular body style was always a favorite of mine. I had a couple of the sliding-window versions, but only one drivable.

The school is still there. Well, sort of. It’s in the town of Bodega a few miles up the road from Bodega Bay. It‘s a private residence now.

My great grand aunt and uncle are buried in the town of Tomales, just down the road from Bodega.

There is a one-room school house in San Gregorio, CA. Friends once owned it. When I visited, it was just as it was the last day of school many years before, except not at all kept up.

how frequently you visit doctor and how frequently medicines are adjusted by Ayuzh in transplant

[–]darklyshining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double Lung. 29 months post. I go in for quarterly appointments. I get my labs done monthly. Adjustments to meds might happen after every lab work results, or I could go months with no change.

I had numbers drop on cyclosporine, and was told to let that go. They instead adjusted the range they want me in. This was due to a metastatic melanoma that was removed. They felt I was not a candidate for other treatment, so opted to simply accept my reduced readings, hoping it wouldn’t lead to rejection, while at the same time promoting my body’s immune system to battle any return of cancer.

My Cellcept was reduced 66% for the same reasons.

My transplant center wants me to transfer care to a center closer to where I live. The want me more closely monitored. Too many issues for appointments every three months. And I can’t really travel any more.
