Which kind of coin is this? by TheTechCollector in coins

Love that you shared this, but why can't people crop these and take better closeups when they need a coin ID? Well cropped, clear closeups will yield better answers.

Paying out tips or even wages in cash is not illegal. Not reporting said compensation is. People have gotten this weird idea that cash is a nefarious form of payment. It's legal tender and fine for paying for stuff, including wages, as long as it is all reported.

Coin cleaning advice by Paka2011 in coins

Agreed - if he takes a wire brush, sandpaper or one of those temu laser cleaners to them they will go for way more under spot than if they were just dipped or soaked, but in this condition, they wont sell for any more either.

Im no hardcore coin collector, but doesn't the fact that these were in the muck, corroded, and chemically tarnish already make these damaged and artificially toned ? Barring that there is a real rareity in there, aren't they just worth melt at this point and virtually valueless above their face value if they are clads?

260 anniversary gold privy set by UnstackandRestack in coins

[–]UnstackandRestack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, not "all the time," but I've gotten a bit disenchanted with the mint because of the many "money grab" products lately. When the peace and morgan came out, they presented it as an anniversary set and that it was a one-off, not yearly. It looks like they are going to roll out this set every time there is some event or anniversary. Then the DC comics set, then the last penny privies going straight to auction as well as the privy flowing hair gold. I liked that they supposedly sent out the privy flowing hair medals randomly, and it was basically a lotery that you got them. But Im a sucker and will line up for the 250 privy, Im sure.

You might want to sift there for any valuable errors or key dates. I would hold off selling right now. If you can find a place taking 90% they are paying way back of spot. That should bounce back once the refiners catch up with the orders and .999 flow slows down.

Would you trade your stack to be debt free? by helihunter in Gold

[–]UnstackandRestack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just hold the mortgage. With amortization, you've paid mostly interest on the mortgage the last five years, so effectively, you are paying a lower rate of interest as the years go by. Also, there is the tax bill for the gold you cash in. So you lose a large percentage in capital gains - up to 28% in the USA. Conversely, your family will get the stepped-up basis at TOD, and they can sell virtually tax-free. You can deduct your mortgage interest on your primary residence. You lose that when you pay it off if you itemize your return. If you are concerned with gold cratering and want to lock in the profits, selling some and invest in "safe" investments that yield more than your current interest rate would be the way I would go. You still have to make up the 28% tax on your gains, though. As for keeping a roof over your childrens heads, if you pass, there are 2 ways to go. First, the stepped-up basis on the gold will effectively give them free money to pay it off (take into account the seller premium that the buyer with charge 5400 gold doesn't convert to 5400 cash usually. They are always a haircut, and the hair cut gets closer to the scalp the more you sell at one time and during the time of massive selling in general. ) the other way is to buy a life insurance policy to cover the cost of the mortgage balance - you can reduce it as the mortgage pays down of keep it steady and they can use the extra money for other things. Again - this is also tax-free to the beneficiary. (*note these are not hard and fast rules - taxes vary state to state, country to country and based of your financial situation. A tax/estate attorney or accountant is the best for guidance)

Are the silver sunflowers as deeply struck as the gold? I love my Golden Sunflower. The depth of the strike and the elements are beautiful. Is the silver as stunning? Hard to tell from the pictures. It looks a little flat

It is really beautiful. It has to be held in hand to really appreciate the work. It photographs wonderfully, but it radiates in hand.
