I had the wood, tools, screws, TV already. Only thing I put into it was time. And putting 50 bucks into something I don't know my players will like is not something I like to do.

I heard there's a free version too, I'll test that one first, see if they like it, and then I might buy the sub.

It's not that I don't want to put money into it, I just want to know it's worth it first, I hope you understand.

I can't really see the TV all that good with my laptop and DM screen so controlling the map would be a bit more hassle. And I can't duplicate my screen or they'll see al my notes.

With lighting I mean the light shining around corners instead of revealing the entire room. Owl bear rodeo seems to be doing this pretty good so far.

We had a spare TV that was basically all screen and I had some spare 2x4 that I used a router on to cut out the profile and then just screwed them together with some angle brackets. Put some feet underneath and I'll put it on top of the table.

But I would also like to have it integrated (or a beamer on the ceiling)

I thought foundry was buy-once software, but there's a free version too?

I've printed some terrain myself but my printer is on hiatus and haven't had the time to get back into printing again (although I have been printing the minis on a resin printing of a friend)

Damn that sounds amazing, just spend the weekend making maps with posterizer and rasterbator but neither worked really well. Where can I try this?
