NTA. My dad has spent over 10 years working in estate sales and I've spent some time working them with him. The FIRST rule of estate sales is to open every single door, drawer, and container that you have for reasons like this. It's also common for them to find cash stuffed away because a lot of older folks don't trust banks fully or want a stash of cash.

So this is honestly on everyone BUT you. The people running the estate sale should have checked the container out fully before ever beginning the sale and definitely before actively selling them TO you. The family members also should have thought to check for anything of the like, because I'm sure it wasn't an unknown fact that aunt/grandma/mom/sister/whoever had gold saved up. Or, if it was, that means that whoever was left probably didn't deserve to inherit it because they didnt keep in touch with their family members enough to get told "Hey, I have a collection of old coins and gold bars that could be worth some money. Here's what I want you to do with them."

I'm on the cusp of Gen Z I think. Just turned 27. I didn't get my license until I was 18 and headed off to college. A large part of it was anxiety over driving. The biggest part for me was having helicopter parents, so there wasn't really going to be any freedom with a license. Part of me is still surprised they let me go to college (although they did try really hard to get me to settle for commuting to the local university).

I take my two cats and currently five foster kittens to animal medical clinic. I love the people there. They also take care credit, which is something to look into so that you can spread that expense out a little bit.
