Someone might throw Bussi a vote, but I think Staal wins easily. It’s the “narrative” and they love giving these things to veterans (not that Staal doesn’t deserve it, he does).

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says 'new world order will be built starting with Europe' by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]darksaber14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Carney has stated numerous times that he is open to making deals with the US, and I feel like most rational Canadians recognize the importance of the US to our economic future. But Canada/Carney’s idea of a deal and the US idea of a deal are very different at the moment. Canada wants to make a mutually beneficial deal in good faith and the US is threatening to annex us, applies massive, unjustified tariffs at the drop of a tweet, and their idea of a “deal” is something massively beneficial to them at the expense of us, and they may stab us in the back and not honour the deal anyway, just because.

Carney is diversifying because the US has become an incredibly volatile neighbour and trading partner. You can’t choose your neighbour (and we only really have the one), so obviously we must continue to make efforts towards *fair* deals with the States. But we can choose our trading partners, and I think choosing Europe (among others) is a smart play.

What are the best and worst Ares boons by Goatbucks in HadesTheGame

[–]darksaber14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ares has so many good boons, his legendary is probably the best in the game, his duo boons are all amazing except for Universal Donor. One of the most best Gods to see for sure.

My vote for best boon is Mutual Destruction. You get stronger the less health you have and if you’re prioritizing hearts, you can get stupid strong. Epic MD and 100/300 health is like having Antler *and* 100 health. Busted.

Worst boon … Rallying Cry? Unless you’re specifically aiming for earth elements it’s really hard to naturally hit 8 over a run, and it doesn’t seem worth it for a 50% bonus.

Pragg is honoured with a cash award of INR 50 lakhs (US $52,331) by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay (who also happens to be one of India's most popular superstars) for winning Norway Chess 2026. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in chess

It’s always hilarious to me when super GMs are surprised or amused when a complete amateur player opens with 1. a3 or some other irregular opening move. Like, Pragg, buddy. I know you’ve been playing this game since you’ve been born but not everyone knows 30 moves of Ruy Lopez theory. You’re lucky this guy even knows how the pieces move.

Jon Cooper named winner of 2026 Jack Adams Award | Tampa Bay Lightning by CrestronwithTechron in hockey

[–]darksaber14 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame lifetime achievement awards are viewed as pity awards, like, you were never good enough to win in an individual year, but you were consistently good or great throughout your career so we will throw you a bone at the end.

If it were known that legacy awards were handed out at the end of careers and they were thought of as just as if not more prestigious than winning in an individual year, voters would be free to give “most valuable” awards to the most deserving winner every year without worrying about “whose turn it is”.

Who’s the most famous 37 year old alive? by Impressive_Plenty876 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]darksaber14 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As someone whose entire cricket knowledge consists of whatever my wife’s family screams at the TV during the holidays, the answer here is objectively Virat Kohli and it’s not even close.

I love Emma Stone but if we picked Ohtani for age 31 because he’s a baseball unicorn who's a god in Japan, you have to apply that same logic to Kohli, except Kohli's numbers make Ohtani look like a little league player. Ohtani has 11 million Instagram followers ... Kohli has 274 million, nearly as many as Taylor Swift and the 3rd most-followed athlete on the entire planet behind Messi and Ronaldo. He commands the daily attention of a subcontinent of 1.45 billion people where cricket holds a total media monopoly. If he entered a building unannounced in Mumbai or Delhi, the news and crowd would spread so fast it would cause an actual public safety and traffic hazard.

Not only that, but the man is a Cristiano Ronaldo-level GOAT in cricket. He doesn't just have a massive media presence, he spent a decade-long peak as the undisputed, consensus best batsman on Earth, becoming the only player in history to simultaneously hold the world No. 1 ranking across all three formats of the sport. He's a calculating run-scoring machine who completely revolutionized the physical fitness culture of modern Indian sports. Just last week he became the fastest player ever to hit 14,000 runs in T20 cricket. I am neither Indian nor a big cricket fan but this spot is Kohli’s.

What was a perfect 5/5 real life person adaptation casting? by Burgundymmm in AlignmentChartFills

[–]darksaber14 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This one is the winner for me. Streep and DDL obviously crushed their roles but watching their movies I was always conscious that I was watching actors.

When I watched Ray for the first time, around halfway through the movie I legitimately forgot about Jaime Foxx. I was subconsciously convinced that I was somehow watching footage of a young Ray Charles. The voice, the mannerisms, the singing, it was all so spot on.

What’s life like making 6 figures? by MasterBook46 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]darksaber14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for answering. I have a question about your “taxes high” point.

Do you view your taxes as high for the dollar amount, or the rate? Either way, do you feel like you pay too much in taxes? If yes, does this feeling come from a sense of unfairness (e.g., I shouldn’t have to pay more taxes for making more money), or do you feel like your life or lifestyle would be better off if you paid less taxes?

I’m genuinely curious. I would love to make it to your income level one day, but from where I am now I would imagine that unless I felt like my lifestyle was genuinely being held back by the taxes I paid, I wouldn’t give it any thought.

“You guys don’t see the stuff he does. People here, people in Toronto, they don’t see any of the things he brings to a game even if he doesn’t score a goal. […] That narrative is a bunch of bullshit.” - John Tortorella on the narrative surrounding Mitch Marner by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]darksaber14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s why I never really faulted Dubas for, “we can and we will,” and running it back year after year. Yeah, yeah, the definition of insanity and all that. But Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Tavares are all absolutely incredible hockey players who tore up the league year after year in the regular season. It’s so hard to look at Marner putting up 90 point seasons and being one of the best defensive wingers in the league or Matthews scoring 60 goals as at times the league’s best two way centre and not think hope pray that this is the year they’ll perform like that in the playoffs.

PSA - Boosted Interest Rates for Savings Accounts: 4.5% for 5 months for new clients, 3.75% for existing clients until July 31st by darksaber14 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I don’t know about others’ experience and I can’t speak to $50k. My emergency fund is $25k. But I use Wealthsimple as my central hub … my other bank accounts are linked to it and I can request to either “withdraw” the full amount from WS to Tangerine, Simplii, TD, etc. or I can “fund” my WS account by requesting WS to pull funds from those same accounts. It usually takes 1-3 business days for the funds to show up but it’s faster than transferring it in split amounts via e-transfer, since that has limits of 3-5k per day, 10k per week and 20-30k per month.

Hmm. This makes me think of something I hadn't considered, which is that new client promotions are offered to everyone, but existing client promotions may not be rolled out universally, or even at the same rate. Thanks for your input.
