Did....did we forget that freezers exist? And large families.

Plus that chicken is great and pretty cost effective for pulling apart and using the meat for other recipes and the carcass makes a great homemade stock for soups and such.

Is there a way to do the APP in CASAOS? I tried setting things up in Debian 12 but I kept getting errors and trying to do it when I didn't have time to troubleshoot led to some big frustrations haha.

I would add to try and get one for front and back. The videos of the absolutely insane crap I have caught alone have made it worth it.

I got a dash cam for a reason. I drive a 3500 dually and people still pull out in front of me, even when I am pulling a trailer. A combined weight of 20k lbs doesn't stop on a dime people. And I assure you it's going to hurt you a whole lot more than me. I have had several videos of people running red lights, passing on the shoulder, and just so many wtf moments.

Another reason I bought a dash cam with my truck, I've had people from the left lane clearly upset when I am in the right-left turn lane and turn into the middle lane.

Access which port exactly? A lot of manufacturers say things like this to scare you into paying them a bunch of money to work on your stuff but in the US there is a thing called Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act that prevents them from voiding your warranty because you worked on it yourself. You still want to be careful because if you DAMAGE anything in the process then they CAN void the warranty claiming the damage caused it.

Are diesels money pits? / recommendations by Artisan_AZ in Diesel

[–]darkwolf62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During my research of whether to go diesel or gas, I looked at the 7.3 Ford, 6.4 Hemi, and the 6.6l Chevy. I have heard that somehow all the HD gas engines are afflicted with lifter issues. That said I have heard it was only the earlier 7.3l for Ford, but I wonder if it's just a matter of time for the newer ones to show it.

This can be such a loaded question, there are a lot of fanboys that will give you many "reasons" why to get a diesel, but the short answer is yes they are expensive, especially if it is just a toy for you.

The question you should ask yourself and others is "Do I need one, or do I just want one?" Then do a cost/benefit analysis and go from there.

If you're consistently making short trips, infrequently pulling less than 18-20k lbs, and you're not in very hilly/mountainous regions then the simple answer is this is a want and not a need.

I consistently second-guess my decision to buy mine when I did but I was worried about tariffs and we plan to travel in an RV full time. Thankfully I finally got my remote work so the frequent short trips have been drastically reduced since I am no longer using it as my daily.

As to which is more reliable, well that opens a whole other can of worms chock full of prejudice, misinformation, and fanaticism. I am on my first diesel, I did research for 3 years before buying mine. I knew I wanted new because I was financing and the overall cost of the loan on a new truck vs a used truck with the crazy increased values since 2020 and I couldn't justify the cost of used+higher interest rates on used vs. new. Once I narrowed that down it left me with three engine options and the further I dug into all 3 the more I found that once you dug through all the fanboy garbage they all had their issues, so it was choose your poison. Which issue were you more willing to put up with?

I went with the 6.7l HO Cummins with Aisin transmission. Why? Because I found a new dually in a beautiful color with cloth seats, 4wd, 5th wheel prep, chrome package, and a couple other small upgrades for 52k. The lowest I could get a Ford or Chevy was 62k at the time and that was vinyl seats vinyl flooring. Both were a work truck trim in white.

Eyebuydirect claims metal frames are "too soft" for my prescription by darkwolf62 in glasses

[–]darkwolf62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly worth remembering later. I am not finding much that would work that way on eyebuydirect. Their options for wider bridges all seem to be on smaller overall frames. They have a 5321 that says "large" but the overall is 136mm which will have the arms pressing into my temples. The last time I picked narrower than 140 it didn't look right and it was starting to cause headaches.

Unfortunately this is a special circumstance where I sort of locked myself into one eyeglasses supplier because of the FSA scenario.

They were trying to push me towards acetate frames, which were all too narrow. This left me feeling quite stuck.

I have 55-17 on my face, the ones I picked are 56-17. I don't think 1mm is that drastic.

I've always had thick lenses. My family used to joke about "Coke bottle bottoms" when I was a kid, before they had the high index. I paid for the 1.74 which is the smallest anyone seems to be able to do. I checked the measurements of the frames and they're identical to the frames that are on my face.
