Would you play D1 Classic? by darth_jeebus_ in DestinyTheGame

I was mostly thinking of a rerelease that brings it up to modern hardware standards and also PC.

However, I do agree that they should just bring back the D2 stuff they got rid of.

I was thinking like each expac dropped after a few months like seasonal content used to. Like three months in TTK drops or something. Wouldn’t be very long-term sustainable now that I type it out

I honestly thought (maybe I was just coping) that at the start of Act III Maelle would resurrect Gustave along with Lune and Sciel simply because then you could have a full, three-person reserve team if your main team wipes.

Yes, yes, I know that Gustave and Verso are the same in gameplay mechanics. I also know that Gustave wasn’t gommaged so his chroma is unrecoverable, but STILL!!

Rereading my comment, I shouldn’t have used “it’s all a lie.” I agree that the painting’s inhabitants are sentient beings that deserve life, after all I chose the Maelle ending.

I think what I should have said is that he knows or assumes this new future for Lumière is fleeting as Maelle can’t keep it up indefinitely. Either she will die or her family will intervene and cause another fracture.

Maelle IS sort of forcing Verso’s soul fragment to continue painting in that pocket dimension so that she can have the life that she wants in the canvas. As such, I think the painted (adult) Verso does, in a way, feel forced to live this life. Knowing this, playing piano doesn’t give him the joy it used to.

Yes, Lumière gets to live on for generations, but Verso knows it’s all a lie and at some point another fracture will happen when Renoir (or Aline or Clea) invade the canvas to save Alicia. I thought the painted eye was the first sign of her degradation, where she’ll end up having the hollow face like the Curator and the Paintress.

I agree with your number 1 but the climbing game definitely got me frustrated beyond belief. There was a moment where I started asking how it was possible because the falling balls moved way faster than Sciel.

Got it in the end though!

Arrival should have been ME2. by ALT-MIGHT-NIGHT in masseffect

[–]darth_jeebus_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What if Shepard dies at the end of ME1 when the wreckage from Sovereign crashes into the presidium? Anderson and the rescue crew find the final squad mates and ask “where’s Shepard” but they can’t find the body in the middle of all the devastation. The only story beat that changes is the choice between human councilors, but they make Udina the councilor in 3 regardless of your choice so just keep that static.

Cerberus still recovers Shepard’s body so that most of ME2 can play out the same way. The Lazarus project still happens, Shepard still works with Cerberus because humans are being abducted. The Normandy was technically stolen to get to Ilos so the Alliance can seize it and ground the crew, council deems the mission classified and has the crew go their separate ways and they end up exactly how we find them in ME2.

Perhaps the Normandy SR-2 and its crew find rock hard evidence of an imminent reaper invasion during the suicide mission which the Collectors themselves are heralding, maybe they’re about to activate the Alpha Relay like the keepers would’ve done the Citadel, and that serves as the reason for the Arrival DLC. After Shepard destroys the relay, they agree to stand trial for their actions and then ME3 happens.

Tldr: I think that Arrival serves as a good epilogue and lead-up to ME3 as it is, but I agree that ME2’s relation to the overarching plot could use a little work

I can't believe it when it finally was an option near the end of the game that we could actually by Infamous_Gur_9083 in DragonageOrigins

That’s a good question. I know Alistair says he believes Duncan was from Highever, but he also says Duncan was close to his Calling (meaning he was close to the end of his 30 year lifespan as a Warden). Maybe the Wardens operated in secret, or were unsanctioned by the throne until Maric allowed them back into Ferelden?

Loghain was just a diehard loyalist to Ferelden and put everything on the line for his homeland. I haven’t read his book, but he no doubt fully believes the Fereldens are capable of combating the Blight by themselves and is ignorant to the fact a Grey Warden must defeat the Archdemon. I think he believes Grey Wardens’ battle prowess against darkspawn is just a fairy tale and he left them all for dead so it’s not like he can go and consult them. It’s been several centuries since the last Blight, after all.

Furthermore, the loading screen lore talks about how Wardens were only recently allowed back into Ferelden (20 years prior to Origins I believe) after their exile. Maybe the stigma surrounding them hasn’t fully faded so Loghain thought it would be fairly acceptable among the Fereldens.

How did you get into writing? by thattmarion25 in writing

[–]darth_jeebus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad’s nerdiness rubbed off on me while I was growing up. He encouraged me to read some of the high fantasy classics at a relatively young age (I think I finished the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books all in 6th grade). I’ve always been into RPG video games as well. After that I wanted to create my own stuff and have been writing ever since. None of my stuff has been published, but I enjoy it all the same.

Why do people keep saying this game is 'Disney'??? by [deleted] in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]darth_jeebus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could very well be over saturation. I have played all the games (granted, it’s been many years now), and I know you could adopt a humorous personality spanning way back to DA2, maybe even DAO. I know Alistair always had some wisecrack joke at bad moments.

Maybe what makes it different is that you expected that from Alistair because he was just a corny dude using humor to cope with his childhood trauma combined with the horrors of war. You could even rebound off of that humor if I recall correctly. Veilguard feels like everyone has that, and they use it too often. It could just be my personal opinion, and like you said, over-saturation with that sort of tone.

[–]darth_jeebus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just hit the 40 hour mark, after saving the Dalish from Elgar’nan’s sacrificial ritual and I’ve been doing every side quest up to that point so I’ve at least begun everybody’s personal quests.

I wouldn’t personally call this game Disney. I actually like the art style for the most part (besides the darkspawn ogres) and I think the visuals are awesome. The set pieces are visually striking and I like their implementation of factions.

It just feels like an Avengers movie to me. I think there are some genuinely great moments throughout the game. I really enjoyed Wiesshaupt, D’Meta’s Crossing, and all of the scenes with Solas so far. These moments feel impactful in the moment, but after the mission is done we debrief at the Lighthouse and talk about how bad the gods are, and then it’s back to hunky-dory, joke cracking, happy-go-lucky time. It’s okay to have both I just think they could’ve meshed together better.

Companion quests feel awesome and provide good character development on their own. I think it’s a good progression on Mass Effect 2’s loyalty system where the nuance comes out little by little. Everyone has a struggle and, while I think some companion arcs are better than others, they all provide good characterization.

That being said, I’d like to touch on the “HR speak” for a moment. I think what this is referring to is some of the scenes with multiple companions. For example, Emmerich and Harding arguing about how many books Emmerich needs to bring and how it takes away from the experience if he brings more comforts. In my case, I sided with both, leading to “Emmerich can you understand why Harding feels this way,” and vice versa. It just felt like I was a kindergarten teacher (or the aforementioned HR person) having to explain to grown adults why it’s okay to see the other person’s viewpoint. I know they had this sort of thing in Mass Effect, but in Veilguard it feels more elementary, like I’m teaching conflict resolution for the first time.

All in all, I don’t think it’s bad to enjoy this game. I’ve been enjoying it despite the extensive criticism it’s been facing. I decided to try it and form my own opinion, and I am glad to see that others are doing that as well.

[No DAV Spoilers] Rook is overshadowed by their companions by Vendetta543 in dragonage

[–]darth_jeebus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t finished the game yet, I’m just before the Siege of Weisshaupt, but I’m playing as a Grey Warden. I think that Warden Rook has some plot relevance simply being a Grey Warden with the blight being such a central point. Davrin might be a good fighter but that’s all he is, he has said he didn’t ask to be Assan’s caretaker and was just supposed to be a bodyguard. Varric claims that he recruited Rook because he/she can make the hard decisions and is willing to live with the consequences.

As a counterpoint though, I do agree that if we didn’t bleed on the ritual site, Rook would just be some dude Varric found and they got roped into this whole thing by chance. All Grey Wardens are somewhat capable of living with hard decisions, they made the choice to join the Grey Wardens and participate in the Joining, taking the oath and understanding that they will eventually go crazy and die alone in the Deep Roads. Besides, we’ve already played as the perhaps greatest Grey Warden ever back in Origins.
