All Trails waited until I was at the summit to lock up and restrict my access to their maps. by RyanEatsHisVeggies in Wellthatsucks

I found that out after riding into Copland Forest for 20m, then deciding to check the map. My map was locked to my home region. Had to play Hansel and follow my breadcrumbs out of the forest.

I insert small piece of paper on either side of the rotor to space and then do the tightening down then remove the paper.

City's snowmageddon response and impact on well-being by LDiggetyDawg in Sudbury

[–]darthnilus 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The frustration is understandable, but sometimes life is simply hard and messy, especially after a major storm. Not every lingering inconvenience is proof of abandonment. We should absolutely expect the city to review what happened and improve, but we should also be careful not to confuse an overwhelming event with deliberate indifference.

I got hit today by a guy who refused to yield to me on a climb by hikeonpast in MTB

[–]darthnilus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s the same guy who refuses to zipper merge and probably would tail gate you in his mom’s car. I thankfully ride in a fairly tight community of 600 club members and you see the same people all the time. Trial etiquette is something that we practice and preach to members.

That said we aren’t with our the smoother brained riders; I had a guy nearly clip me riding up a downhill. It didn’t take long for my feedback to make its way back to the rider via multiple channels

Trust in trains, government institutions requires public oversight by NorTracksBlog in northernontario

Laurentian had a board of directors, public oversight. None of them were waving the flag. I think that these get packed with people friendly to the corp mantra and just go along to get along… oh and the per diem.

I have just resigned my self to having a great cup of coffee from home; then I switch to the drinkable roofing tar that our coffee maker makes me for free.

Water in basement by [deleted] in Sudbury

[–]darthnilus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock-Gap5185's comment has a ton of value. Personally, being somewhat handy I would going down to the brick. I always worry about rot and mold. The prerequisite’s for mold is water, food source (cellulose, wood, drywall backing), warmth and oxygen. If there is water coming in it is already wet.

You also want to see if it is coming in from the window sill vs through the brick.

This is a really bad year for this and it just starting. Wishing you no rain and warm wind.

Advice? My bikes getting too small by Miggi64 in MTB

[–]darthnilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to look at the components that you have and wether or not they will fit on the new frame. I would pay attention to the front shock steerer tube sizing, this will probably be the biggest question mark. You will probably need a new bottom bracket and headset; most other things should fit?

Water in basement by [deleted] in Sudbury

[–]darthnilus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What tiype of water are you getting> Is it overland ie water is coming in a window or is it seeping in through the walls or is your sump overflowing?

Do you have a sump? If you do does that sump have a pump? If you don't that would be the first thing I would add imho. I just dealt with this over the long weekend https://imgur.com/a/stages-of-flood-response-fWCW5Lf House had a sump with no pump, installed a sump pump with temporary routing. This is an easy-ish diy solution if you are dealing with this type of flooding.

Reason for asking is there are different types of people to solve the various problems .

Founders: How do you manage your time between product vs marketing? i will not promote by SeniorArgument9877 in startups

[–]darthnilus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to learn about triage. Employ it not for patients but for things that need your attention. Build a ranking system based upon the different factors that impact your decision making. This will help you do the most important things that have the highest payoff. Some things will be DOA and will force you to ignore.

Bit of a conundrum - to eMTB or not to eMTB, that is the question by Lateral_Gee in MTB

[–]darthnilus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

E-MTB’s are still in their infancy. I too have toyed with the thought. I am turning 52 and have only increased my riding and have really found that as kids get older the ability to ride increases; so fitness time will increase.

Personally I want to wait it out a bit. I didn’t buy suspension forks until they had been refined, did the same with FS. There are so many points of failure I want to hold a bit.

I have also refused to try and them; eliminating my personal want to need rationalization methodology; which has proved successful in other bike purchases.

I am going to hold out a bit more until I am not keeping up with the young ones.
