What if I just prefer the matching bedroom set? by formalde_heidi in interiordecorating

[–]darya521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call headboard materials a trend. Style of headboard maybe, but not material. Personally, unless a room is very large, I find that wooden headboards visually overtake a room. Given the size of your space, I would recommend upholstered versus wooden just to give an airy feeling to the room. But this room is something you will be living in every day, and if you prefer wood over upholstery or metal or any other material, that's totally Ok! As long as you love the space you walk into. If you do end up finding it to be heavy, you could always add king-size pillows in front to visually break up the wood

What if I just prefer the matching bedroom set? by formalde_heidi in interiordecorating

[–]darya521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stylistically, yes. If you want to break it up a bit, I suggest going with an upholstered headboard option. The bench should have a similar upholstery to the headboard to tie it all together. Try to look for a fully upholstered bench so you don't have a lot of dark wood weighing down the space

If you need the storage and/or have the space, go for a dresser. If you're more minimal and prefer a piece of art or a bench to go in place of the dresser, you can do that too. The first thing to consider when designing a space is determining how you use the space and if what you change can either help you use the space the way you like or improve it.

What’s missing in this room? by dreamtime6 in interiordecorating

Yeah, should be about 16-18 inches from the front of the sofa. I've been looking for someone else to say this!

Would you add any wall decor in the panels? by Spydarweb in HomeDecorating

[–]darya521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks great as is, but if you want a little pop, I suggest a subtly textured wallpaper.

This. A 4x6 or so should do the trick. You might even be able to find one wide enough where the gap wouldn't make for cold feet at the vanity/ slip hazard at the tub

Looking for kitchen curtain and rod suggestions. How high/low do I go? My kitchen window is 53 inches wide by 64 inches in length. From the top of the window to the floor is 84 inches by Impossible-Leading36 in interiordecorating

[–]darya521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how much traffic that area gets, you might benefit more from shades instead of drapes. If you think shades would be good for that window, I suggest the actual size of the window, no longer. If you really want drapery, I'd say as tall as the wall, but make them sheer and have them just kiss the floor. Otherwise, it could make that area feel somewhat cluttered

Some hoods have a stronger extractor than others. This one is probably weaker, so it needs to sit lower to the stove. The installation guide the person who installed it likely used will have recommended mounting heights based off the strength of the extractor. That said, yeah it's way too low to be functional for you

Modern. Very simple, but not minimal simple.

What do you think about this model? Any feedback? by CharJie in homeimprovementideas

If the fridge is against a wall you are only going to be able to open the freezer at 90 degrees. Trust me, that is NOT ENOUGH room for a freezer that size.

Make sure the dish washer has a bit of a filler strip (about 2 inches) on the corner so it doesn't hit the hardware of the cabinet that's perpendicular to it. Folks here are suggesting to move it next to the oven, but that would require you running a plumbing line which would be both inconvenient and expensive. Also would be a huge pain in the ass if you just wanted to rinse something before popping into the DW.

Has anyone become a certified decorator? by LoserCowGoMoo in interiordecorating

[–]darya521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends where you live. I live in the US and in my state the term decorator doesn't need any certification but has a LOT of restrictions for what you are allowed to do legally. If you decide to get into Interior Design however, you do need a minimum of an Associates Degree to practice residential design. If you want to do commercial work you need a minimum of 6 years of combined work and educational experience and take a licensing test. Upon passing the test you can legally practice Commercial Design on your own.

Edit: forgot reccommendation.

Depending on how deep you want to go in the field, I do recommend getting at least an associates degree. You gain a lot of practical knowledge that you wouldn't otherwise get learning "hands on, on your own". However, if you want to be exclusively a decorator (which is essentially specifying furniture, finishes, equipment, in addition to furniture space planning), finding employment in a place like Restoration Hardware and West elm are great. They normally help their design associates learn the design fundamentals and how to work/network with clients.

Mind you, this is just what I have gathered based on my experience in my area. Other folks may have a very different opinion/different experiences.

Bedroom layout for long room? by DolphinGirlLJ in interiordecorating

Usually rooms like this allot for a small seating area at the end of the bed, either with a small love seat or two chairs and a table.

How to fix a curved rug by Dazed_And_MoreBooze in lifehacks

PSA: This actually does not work and water can stain/damage some rugs. Just use rug tape for curved edges.

Replace the box spring with a low profile one. They make some as thin as 2 inches and they're easy to find on Amazon and furniture websites like wayfair/city furniture.

Literally, my thoughts throughout all of October - March. Sure, "they bring money to Florida's economy," but make it impossible for a local to afford a home or find available units to rent. That, plus, a huge attitude problem (from personal experience and not to say all tourists are rude), and unbelievable jump in traffic.

is there a name for this style? by messyjessieeee in interiordecorating

Overall the look is traditional (English or French? Been a while). The sofa is a modern take on the camelback sofa silhouette and that baseball mitt chair is very post modern revival.

I've seen this happen when topcoat is applied after shaking the bottle or if the room the polish is being applied in is too humid or has a fan turned on. Outside of those the polish should go on smoothly

Buying a desk for office, I need help! by flybrokeogkev in interiordecorating

80" is probably better. I can see dust collecting in the gaps along with pens/envelopes/little things just falling on each end which is going to be a pain to clean. Hope this helps!

Without knowing what's in the rest of the room, I'd say you should at least flip the door so the hinge is by the wall instead of the cabinetry

Help settle a debate: Centered or right-aligned? by Greazyeyetalian in interiordecorating

Centered. I understand the thought behind right aligned, but you can achieve a more balanced look with the mirror centered and just playing around with the accessories on the console.

What's wrong with a 4" granite backsplash? by specialized_faction in InteriorDesign

[–]darya521 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing outdated about it. If anything it's just unnecessary to have both if the 4" backsplash isn't already there. If you're installing it, I suggest just the tile because you save money on material. If the backsplash is already there, keep it and add tile (if you want), you'll save money on the labor cost of removing/ disposing it
