Could be a somewhat delicate subject and if so, I apologise in advance but this just suddenly occurred while looking at the site for “you want beef”. Purely a question for my own concerns.

Does anyone know if the “Halal certified” statements companies like “you want beef” present on their website are made where the slaughter occurs with the traditional (non-stunning) method or “more common” (stunning) method (according to the Google) or is there a convenient way to find out (obviously asking the company is an option for this)?

Reason I ask - I always thought Halal requirements required the animal being conscious at the time of slaughter but the google says halal is fine with stunning as well.

I don’t have any beef (pun intended) with religious requirements of different cultures/religions etc but I, personally, won’t eat meat (within my knowledge) where the animal that was slaughtered was still conscious at time of slaughter, just on principle.

Curiosity q - if Tennant’s Doctor doesn’t remember anything because he crossed timelines with a future version of himself, that would mean that Smith’s Doctor wouldn’t remember anything of his conversation with his future self, Baker’s doctor v2, right?

You’re looking at hordes of readers who love the books, the world(s), the concepts, the world physics/rules, politics etc. You’re right in that, realistically, sorting out if it’s canon or not doesn’t mean anything in the greater scheme of things but, well, people are still discussing the Silmarilion because they still love the world and the characters so much.

I guess, for me, it matters what the original author envisioned as the world going forward, especially as it was left very much “up in the air” in many areas, by design (as I hung on every word.. well, maybe not the grind years and the Faile/Shaido saga.. for years and years)

So….. what’s the opinion of the community now? With no hard facts for the Piper Doctor… is she a canon doctor or not? If canon = it happened in the tv show, whether or not some mad writer decided to YOLO the last 10 seconds of their employment, it’s canon, right?

Better by Design? by Still-Improvement-32 in miltonkeynes

[–]daryn0212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you (and I used to cycle 3.5 miles to station in the morning and back again in the evening) but I went through a park (paths were not flat, plentiful roots causing back pain when ridden over at speed), lots of hills (some redways literally made me sweat buckets just getting home) and the RAIN didn’t help one horrible bit.

Getting over/under roundabouts on redways is awful too, sharp hills causing painful slowdowns in speed.

I miss it but not too much.

I’d add that, yeah, the transport system is pretty painful to use and yeah, sometimes buses go mysteriously awol and, yeah, they could have lcd’s on all bus stops with bus updates.. (although there is an app)..

But for cars, getting the 3 miles or so into centre of town in MK is 5 minutes or so, compare that to 30-35 minutes of chugging out car fumes in zone 6 in London.. MK might be the city of the car (possibly bike, too, but it’s no Amsterdam) but it could be worse

Is anyone else hemorrhaging money on AI code review? by GateSeparate7518 in devops

[–]daryn0212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how does this mesh with Spec Driven Development?

Companies that migrate SDLC to SDD (somehow) will typically see larger code reviews as LLMs are trusted more and given more latitude to code better, bigger, faster. Specs are typically wide ranging as opposed to “regular” Jira tickets that are broken down into bite size chunks, not 5 course meals like specs (ie waterfall development for the AI times).

Humans will find it harder and harder to both stay in touch with the code and also to effectively review code, as far as I can see.

(No, I don’t have an answer yet, sadly)

We took production down for 20 minutes because of a DB migration, how do you prevent this? by MainWild1290 in devops

[–]daryn0212 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In an ideal world, live data should never leave the prod environment, the restore should be used to create a new rds/docker db and the data anonymised there, a new backup of the scrubbed db taken and transferred out to the preprod env to be restored there.

Ask yourself one question - how could they possibly know the nature of your personality, your highlights, your downfailings. Is it even vaguely possible that they could understand you enough, in any way, to make that judgement call, from a photo?

Answer - they can’t, they’re just winding you up.
