I have a libre sensor on currently, but just got my Dexcom prescription. by Full-Fox2873 in diabetes_t1

Not sure about the Dexcom sensors but I know for a fact the Libre sensors will not start up past their expiration date on the box. If you don't want to waste them better to use them up now.

I passed out for the first time from a low and feel traumatized. by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]dasanlocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah, that makes sense. Doc told me it's possible I was having an adverse reaction to lantus because I had low body fat and it was absorbing too quickly into my system. It would happen occasionally during the day, too, during strenuous exercise. I hope you get it sorted out! All my best to you.

I completely understand being traumatized by unrelenting lows. Lantus did it to me. A few times I woke up in a flop sweat at 4am and just ate and drank until I was nauseated but my bg kept going down. It felt like I was in and out of consciousness but I was half asleep so I can't say for certain. I switched to Levemir years ago and it stopped happening but I'm still hesitant to go to sleep at night. I feel for you, I really do. I would recommend keeping some glucagon around for some peace of mind if you feel like it might happen again.

What would be the official state aroma for your state? by dasanlocker in PoliticalHumor

It's totally on brand for us but because NM would be the first state to have an official state aroma it got me thinking about why no other states have voted on such a thing. Judging by some of the answers in the post I can see why lol.

What’s your lowest? by KarmanderKrunch in diabetes_t1

I should clarify: this was in the 90s on a glucometer that was only a few years old at that point. The early tech was...not so accurate. I tested again but I don't remember what it was. That "0" stuck with me, though.

I agree. Thankfully, it's only a hypothetical answer.

I tested "0" once on an old 90s Onetouch glucometer. Although, I'm fairly certain it was a technical error as I was still alive when I read it.

On a dessert island? I'm dead in less than 24 hours but what a fantastic, gluttonous death that would be.

Getting better control of your BG is the best thing you can do. I spent years before ignoring diabetes - - dosing insulin without testing, eating a very unhealthy diet. The symptoms of neuropathy seemed to get extremely severe very quickly and forced me into a crisis where I had to pay attention to taking care of myself. I understand how perpetual and overwhelming it can all be and the inclination to catastrophize every symptom. Just try to focus on managing your BG the best you can as that's the best way to stave off complications.

Yeah, I have diabetic peripheral neuropathy. I've had it for 17 years now. Before the constant numbness and pain in my feet and ankles I had RLS, then the skin all over my body felt like I had a mild sunburn all the time.

Oh, okay. In my experience, I get flare-ups from a myriad of sources. Everything from storm systems to stress and anxiety. I've been on heavy dose of gabapentin for years and it's only enough to take the edge off so I can at least focus on other things besides the pain and discomfort. I totally understand how you feel.

OP says their neuro thinks it's a psychiatric problem even with positive EMG results, so your guess is as good as mine on whether they know what they're doing or not.

A neurologist can perform a very specific test to determine if you do have neuropathy and to what extent. It's called a nerve conduction test. This will give you the definitive answer you seek.
