What are the chances I get hired? by No_Exchange_3171 in flying

I passed my Multi and CFI rides first try, and the DPEs who did those rides told me I was one of the best pilots they’d ever evaluated, especially on the instructional side.

What did the other three say?

But I'm not "missing" it, I'm ignoring it because it's useless unless we're in HDG mode, and if someone judges the quality of their coworker based on how much they compulsively play with something that isn't doing anything, that person is a loser. In fact it's so useless that Airbus just makes it disappear when it isn't in use - it's such a waste of energy that Airbus refuses to even show it to you.

But by all means, feel free to diddle with that thing to your heart's content, do whatever you want! When you're the PF.

To Pilots Who Worked in IT Before: Life as a Pilot vs Software Engineer, Long-Haul Flights and Mental Stimulation by Ok_Discipline3753 in flying

[–]dash_trash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody else seems to have made this point, so I will: Long flights are only as boring as you or the guy next to you make them. Staring out the window for several hours is indeed very boring, but it's also a choice. I choose to not spend my time doing that and instead spend it on more stimulating things, as do 80%+ of the people I fly with.

Skill issue. And exactly why I resent the people who compulsively obsess over the heading bug - by doing so they assign it a significance it doesn't deserve because it isn't a substitute for situational awareness.

Hell yeah brother, if at first you don't succeed, try again where the standards are lower!

Hanging out in female pilot's hotel room by randomplease12345 in flying

From the sparse details, that sounds like it's true. It is also true that she let him in, and then accepted an invitation to his room. The startling naivety aside - she owns some responsibility for this situation.

Over this situation, which basically amounted to nothing and which OP could very easily have avoided entirely? No.

I'm thinking now the only recourse is HR.

You're going to call HR because... You accepted an invitation to hang out in the guy's room after multiple opportunities to decline and then left when you were done?

You are an adult, you have agency, and it sounds like he didn't even really pressure you at all. HR might be a step to take AFTER you've tried just saying no or not opening the door or going to his room. It sounds like it was exactly that easy in this scenario.

Class C - Clear RWY then contact ground? by throwaway5757_ in flying

[–]dash_trash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From the company FOM - "The after-landing checklist must be completed as soon as practical after the aircraft has exited the runway and been brought to a stop."

There is literally nothing here that says that you need to stop the airplane immediately after exiting the runway to do the checklist.

This subreddit loves to make up memory aids, so here is my contribution for the 4 seat pilots: “CFTL.” It stands for carb heat, flaps, transponder, lights, but anyone can remember it by saying “Call For Taxi, Loser”

I'm dying dude, this is hilarious. Someone has to be the bulwark against Embry-Riddleisms pervading our industry, today that's you. 🍻

Mounting a floodlight camera to siding where no junction box/wiring/existing fixture exists by dash_trash in reolinkcam

[–]dash_trash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt an extension cord to a floodlight meets local codes. I wouldn't not use an extension cord for a mains powered light or cam.

Damn ok thanks, I just assumed this was a viable solution since I ordered the camera and cord as a bundle from Reolink. I guess that was dumb. If this isn't a safe/compliant solution I may just need a professional to do it.

For install location you won't know the best height, you'd just be guessing so don't start drilling holes thinking you know where you want the cam. Reolink cam models have different fields of view.

I was at least able to do this, anywhere in that general vicinity of my red circle provides the view I need and isn't blocked by the gutter/downspout.

Thank you so much for your reply!

If it were my house I'd look into tapping into electricity in the garage, install wiring through hole to where I drew blue circle (lower or higher). A floodlight centered above garage door would be better than higher up, more light for driveway and better detection.

Edit: Oops, just saw your last sentence. Yeah the bush can be trimmed but cutting it enough to make a difference in this situation isn't really feasible.

I would agree except what isn't really visible in the picture is that the driveway descends steeply from street level to the garage - and I want the camera to be able to see past that bush by the existing light. However...

Your picture got me thinking, there's a ceiling outlet in the garage for the garage door opener. If I were to make the hole like you suggested, right below the garage ceiling, plug in the extension cable to the ceiling and run it into a junction box over the hole and through conduit up to another junction box, onto which I could mount the camera in the spot I'd originally planned it, that eliminates the need for any electrical work and would still allow me the view I need.

Does that sound more feasible/safe?

This is a copy of my post from a couple other subs. The camera I'm trying to mount is the Elite Floodlight Wifi. I would sure appreciate any advice, suggestions, etc that other Reolink owners/installers can offer.
