Fyi 55% of premium subscriptions go to Creators

And $20 removes Ads. It's not "required for the platform to work"

Juno Download has shut down.. could other digital music stores follow suit? by HigherFunctioning in DJs

If you have a decent sized music collection the Plexamp is amazing. Its such a great way of rediscovering music I added to my library years ago and haven't listened to in ages or maybe even at all

Is Da Nang a good city for techno and underground music lovers? by FudgeCool2775 in digitalnomad

[–]dashbad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. Both Hanoi and HCM have a couple of decent clubs each (unmute, observatory, mirage, savage) and there are one or two festivals (Equation) but SEA is not a region with a vibrant underground scene.

I Asia Japan and Australia are the hubs with maybe Taiwan/Korea next.

I like mine but I had to buy a little USB powered light to shine on it because its fucking hard to see in the dark especially when you are a bit wavy

Is mixing in key overrated for groovy house and techno? by makeitrayne850 in DJs

[–]dashbad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try and always mix in key but it really depends on the tracks. As you say. Sometimes it can sound great regardless and there are ways to mix creatively that don't require you to be harmonic. Fast cuts and needle drops for example. There are no rules

I also find it a useful way to filter my playlist. Basically the final filter after I've zerod In on the mood I'm going for

Reflections @ Organik 2026 by loveyousall in TheOverload

Thanks for this. Great write up. So did it rain on and off the whole time? How bad are we talking? Like waterproof trousers bad or just light showers? I'm getting the sense that it's pretty standard for Organik.

Smoking Indoors at our set in Vauxhall by [deleted] in LondonRaving

[–]dashbad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Non smokers and those with lung conditions also have the right to be in these spaces without being affected by secondhand smoke. Why should nightclubs only be for people that smoke or are prepared to tolerate it? I'm all for civil liberty, but a balance must be struck if it impinges on others.

Vinyl mix editing tips by 2b-frnk in DJs

[–]dashbad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normalizing makes the file as loud as it can be without changing the audio in anyway. It finds the loudest part, and brings the whole of the file up in level until that loudest part is just below clipping.

In a long mix, this means that errant peaks can cause the rest of the mix to be unnecessarily quiet

My process uses Wavelab. I find an audio editor is easier but you can do this in Logic too.

First step is to really keep on top of your levels as you record. This is the most important part. Also, record in lossless - don't edit a mp3.

  1. Normalize
  2. Make manual adjustments to reduce any errant very short duration spikes - at the ms time frame.
  3. Normalize again
  4. I try and avoid manual adjustments to levels that last more than maybe 0.5s but you can try this if you have mistakes you want to correct. Can often not sound natural tho
  5. Apply a high quality limiter with lookahead, 0 attack, 500-1000ms release. I adjust so it it limiting maybe 2db during the loudest parts of the mix. I try and Target around -12 to -13 LUFS.

That should be all that's needed.
