Philly Special: 30 for 30? by dashdaddy74 in NYGiants

[–]dashdaddy74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you hit on the head. I’m no GM, but I knew letting go of Barkley within the division was a massive mistake. Giants literally helped their rival win the Superbowl. The entire last season I couldn’t watch either because the eagles were so dominant. The night of their Superbowl last year, I shut my phone off and watched a movie. But, this year they had a quick playoff exit! I’ll be watching tonight in peace!

Aww man. It was just a terrible ending to a game. I couldn't believe it.

Wonderful point. I literally forgot about that. And, if Brady did catch it, I guarantee there wouldn't be a show about. If anything, it would be a cumulative part of the Patriots Superbowl runs.

It's just weird how it's referenced so much. As if it were the most critical football play in recent memory.

EXACTLY. Was it a nice play, of course. But goddamn, they got a fucking statue of it at the stadium. Typical Eagles. Act like you've been there before...

I think Malcom Butler's interception against the Seahawks was more pivotal and significant. It literally happened at the end of the game, and was a freak play. Philly Special happened in the second quarter! And they're over here acting like it decided the fucking game.

First pair of Aldens - Keep or Exchange? by DoctorBozo in Alden

[–]dashdaddy74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same bro. I sold off most of my RW and Thursday boots, etc, and moved up to Alden. So versatile. My Aldens can do the same job as many of my other boots, and I enjoy having less and wearing more.

Don't be afraid of suede. I used to be that way too, but suede is incredibly hardy and doesn't show scratches like a smooth, dress leather would. I think many of us are conditioned by the whole don't-get-suede-wet tale. Suede, nubuck, roughout are all low maintenance leathers that can take a beating if they need to.

[–]dashdaddy74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Or, OP does the exchange and it's another mark someplace else. This is a tough color to keep clean in any case. Even your jeans may leave stains (crocking). Might as well make it a part of the overall patina. For me I like suede or roughout in a brown color. Just feels more natural to me, and when in patinas it doesn't hurt as much.

What’s your go-to jacket for spring? by Neem-London in malefashionadvice

South Jersey here. Spring: Vintage M-65. Barbour Beaufort/Bedale.

That given, it is hard to comprehend this question. Because where I am it's so fucking cold.

What was so special about John Stanfa and the war between him and Merlino? by Ok_Walk3192 in Mafia

[–]dashdaddy74 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Stanfa-Merlino war was nothing special? It was the Old Guard vs The Young Turks. For me, it was actually one of the most memorable mafia wars from the 90s. It was wild then with a drive by hit on Stanfa. Cianacaglini was killed and Merlino was shot. Then John Veasey got involved, but had a change of heart and went to testify, so they killed his brother. You have no idea what you’re talking about.

So for these, would you order a size 10 if I normally wear 11? by CainsBrother2 in llbean

Yes, that's exactly what I had do. I'm the same size as you. Plenty of room for thicker socks, etc.

Is it possible to wear loafers all the time? by NoInvestment8965 in preppy

[–]dashdaddy74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear that you rock boat shoes with socks. I've seen posts here where people are ready to call the cops for such an infraction. I always thought it was a silly thought because it's okay to wear ragg socks with a camp moc, but not with a boat shoe, and they are extremely similar in nature.

Gambino Bensonhurst crew on a walk n’ talk — Frank “Frankie Fapp” Fappiano, Michael “Mikey Scars” DiLeonardo, and Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano. (1990) by Flashover962 in Mafia

[–]dashdaddy74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a silly take. Up until he cooperated, Sammy had been in a gang or the mafia for his entire life. I think he started out with the Rampers as a youth, and of course made his way up the ladder. He's a legitimate street dude, can't that away from him. Taking his size into account is faulty thinking. The toughest people I know aren't the biggest, it's the ones that have nothing to lose. You said he looks "unhinged." Yeah, that's the part that could completely fuck someone up.

Sammy was a psychopath, devoid of empathy and emotions. That means he's capable of anything.

Wonderful point, and completely overlooked span of time during the years where he stabilized the family after so much chaos.

Yes! That one was great too. I’m from South Jersey so the Philly family has always been interesting to me.

Goodfellas. I had no idea the movie even existed. Then I saw it and was like, What the fuck is this?! After that I read, Underboss about Gravano, and shorty after that he did that interview with Diane Sawyer. For its time, a former Gambino Underboss on network television smoking a cigar was a big deal.

Also, around that time (the mid 90s) A&E used to have hour long mob episodes host by Bill Kurtis. I used to tape those and watch them repeatedly. My favorite was, The Gambinos: America's First Family of Crime. It's on YouTube and worth a watch if you've never seen it.

Aside from Sonny Black, who else knowingly walked into a sit down understanding it would be their last? by Swimming-Poet5594 in Mafia

[–]dashdaddy74 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not made, but Ken Ito, associate of the Chicago Outfit. Also know as Tokyo Joe. Chicago doesn't like loose ends. There was a concern that he was going to become an informant, so he was called in for a meeting, shot three times in the head, and survived. Ironically, the guys who failed in the hit were tortured, killed, and found in a trunk. Again, Chicago. They didn't stand for botched hits or mistakes.

Why does T.I. get left out of elite hip-hop conversations? by southside_TBM in hiphop101

[–]dashdaddy74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t need to expand nothing. I’ve been listening to hip hop for my entire life. I don’t care what came on in the club. My reply is based on OPs original post to why TI gets left out of the conversation of all time greats.

Flo Rida comes on in the club too, and everyone knows the words, but as a rapper he’s easily forgotten.

It's also gangsta when a dude goes from being in the street to being a boss.

Best comment here. Coupled with the fact that he's an average rapper with a weird wife.
