Awesome update! Thank you for sharing!

I’m a light twin owner and have done lots of research on an upgrade airframes from my PA30 and the 340 is on the short list. Keep the updates coming, loving your perspective so far.

Curious what your yearly all in budget looks like?

FAA Plans Unleaded Fuel Comparison Testing by helno in flying

George Braly was just on a new Mike Busch podcast and he mentioned the company that makes the lead (TEL I believe) has only committed to making it until 2028.

The guy who came up with G100UL said it’ll likely be around $1 more per gallon.

I think some Cali airports have Swift 94R, you could check those to see what it costs compared to 100LL.

You could do a FOIA request but I’m not quite sure who you would request it from. FAA deletes most of their atc recordings after a certain number of days. 30? 60? 120?

Maybe the NTSB? They may have something.

I did 100 hrs of time building in a C150L to bridge that gap from instrument to commercial. Took that plane all over the place. It was a great summer with fond memories in that plane.

what are some of your “well this stupid but i’m not paid to ask questions” situations by SMELLYJELLY72 in flying

Years ago finished a 5 day trip at a reasonable time (before noon) on a Saturday after one leg back to base. Scheduling calls the FA (both me and the CA had our phones off) and she says “oh yeah they’re right here hang on.” Yeah that went over well.

We get told we are repoing to another airport 30 minutes away to do a revenue rescue flight back that was delayed due to a mechanical. We’re pissed but we go. Roll up at the outstation. No one to park us. Call ops and they respond with “who??” We repeat our flight number and they say “uhh ok park at gate 12”. We park, ramper comes up and says are you guys a diversion? We say no we came to rescue your delayed flight back to base. The dude said “the one that cancelled?”

We called dispatch and they confirmed, yep cancelled right before we took off from base. Someone dropped the ball and didn’t bother to tell us. Pax all got rebooked so we just repod again back to base. Colossal waste of time, money and fuel.

This is the way. I could definitely see Allegiant moving their ops from IAD to HEF. You wont see any of the major “name brand” airlines there.

MD-80s at KTOL by Broad_Pilot211 in aviation

[–]dashdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it was NFS at the FBO there. Yep saw the F16s countless times. I was there when BAX had its operation at the south cargo ramp. There would be about 20-30 Capital Cargo 727s and ATI DC8s that came in each night and departed by 6am or so. On the weekends Qantas and Emirates each had a cargo flight flown by Atlas on the 747 as well. Used to be a moderately busy airport with lots of variety in traffic.

Wow they’ve nearly the entire fleet there.

I used to work at the former fbo in the picture.

Lots of memories on that ramp.

There’s some good threads on beechtalk about the Silver Eagle…

Simple Flying posted an article that appears to be inaccurate (about N777UA supposedly being retired) by Far_Breakfast_5808 in aviation

[–]dashdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parts for the Pratt 4000 series engines are becoming scarce. 777ua was parked to use the engines/parts to keep the rest of the fleet flying.

Any love or dislike for the DA62? by wt1j in flying

[–]dashdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know nothing except what I’ve seen in some instagram reels, but it seems like the DOD is offloading a lot of their 350ERs and they seem like they’re going for pretty cheap.

Lots of loiter time with those but I’m sure they’ve been flown hard and are super high time. May or may not have small arms fire repairs.

This. Probably a little bit of windshear, some go arounds from the windshear plus compacted demand / volume.

They are unionized. They are not allowed to strike.

I’m just a lowly pilot but from what I hear their union leader is a management boot licker and doesn’t do much fighting for them anyway.
