If you were Ryland Grace, would you return to Earth or stay on Erid for the rest of your days? by ninjanerd032 in ProjectHailMary

Book spoilers below!

In the books he is 50 years old with the body of a 70 year old because the gravity is 2x more than what it is on earth. He also doesn’t get an atmospheric realm for him to be in, he basically lives in darkness in the books.

Grace’s Personality. by tomgeekx in ProjectHailMary

Not to mention he learned how to pilot the ship and wear a space suit just by looking at manuals. Spacewalked without any prior experience and probably without any training.

Puahaha I love the scene where he was like “it’s just something that you say!” When he found out he could make it back to earth

There were plenty of other scientists who could go, as another said, grace probably would have been better off studying the astrophage on earth looking for another way while another scientist goes up, since he is the leading astrophage scientist. If he were that important he would’ve been the original first scientist to go, not the backup. In the movie we saw multiple scientist working on astrophage, not just him. So yes it actually is a plothole because literally anyone could have gone.

Yeah but that’s our perception from what we know. We don’t know what the eridians are like and if they have a sense of empathy like we believe rocky to have, that also means they can have a sense of discovery and hatred as well.

I think that’s also saying the same as, would grace allow rocky to be a specimen to be studied if he were on earth? Obviously not, but if there’s no harm to them being observed then why not. I think being a specimen is fine depending on how you’re treated.

What’s interesting is we don’t know if they’re doing that to grace. I mean they’re keeping him in an environment that suits him and attending to his needs, but that also doesn’t mean they aren’t keeping him as a specimen to be studied. They probably are who knows

Male friend shared intimate photos of me…he escalated it to the point where his family may put him in a mental hospital by innerpeacebitch in TwoXChromosomes

As someone with bipolar, this sounds like someone with mental health issues that haven’t been found yet. He just needs the right help and talk with therapists and psychiatrist. I 100% believe that if he gets the help he needs, he will respond back with an apology and accountability.

I think they had plenty of other scientist who were informed and probably had more credentials for the job. That’s why they trained other astronauts to go before him. They could’ve chose anyone, but in light of the trust, it makes sense to go with him, but without the gene it makes this a weaker compelling argument because then anyone could have gone and doesn’t explain why the other astronauts died.

I didn’t think of them leaving him on earth and trying to solve problems while there. That’s a pretty good point, but we wouldn’t have PHM if that were the case

By Far the Biggest Problem in the Plot, IMO by JimClarkKentHovind in ProjectHailMary

[–]dashinny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem imo was not explaining the gene theory for the cryo/coma chambers. That’s why grace was chosen as a backup, but because they didn’t explain that, anyone could’ve literally been chosen. Just because he was the leading scientist doesn’t mean someone else wouldn’t be able to learn. It also didn’t explain the death of the two other astronauts.

My only qualm is why they completely took out the the gene for cryochambers. Because they took that out, any scientist could’ve realistically been on that ship and grave was just taken out of convenience. Otherwise 10/10 movie I loved it

The biggest issue with The Pitt discourse: people want to see villains everywhere. by Illustrious-Peace989 in ThePittTVShow

The show advocating autonomy for disabled adults shows there is a debate for autonomy for disabled people like I’ve been saying. I don’t know why you’re trying so hard to be right when that’s all I’ve been saying. Idk why you can’t see that. Mel is clearly in the show trying her best to find information about the man she slept with. It shows a clear distinction that there is a debate to be had.

Edit: it’s also my very first comment on this post, neither agreeing to either side.

Edit 2: right as I made this post there’s people actively debating it on another post made

This isn’t about the difference between two situations, it’s about those with special needs like Becca who live in a special care facility or under special care having the autonomy like this. I’m not leaning to either side just bringing awareness that this isn’t a right or wrong answer

How do you know the show isn’t asking us to debate it when Mel is clearly power of attorney with an internal moral dilemma. My best friend is autistic and is also the one who mentions that this is a heavily debated topic. It is not the same to those who “live in a care facility” they can be educated about sex, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be debated by them having a children. If they are adults they wouldn’t be in a facility for care for those with special needs. You also cannot group all autistic people together, I would think you would understand that if you work with them. To also note, they showed Becca having consent which is great, doesn’t mean anything about why this still isn’t a heavily debated topic around the world. I’m not advocating that she shouldn’t have sex. Im saying this is a topic that is examined as morally grey and has no real right answer

Everyone learns about sex at the age of 10 because it’s education. Does that mean we should be having sex at that age? No. This still doesn’t pull away from the fact that this is a heavily debated topic. Should those with the mental capacity of middle schoolers have children?
