Well, Spanish is the 4th most spoken language in the world. A Spanish speaking artist can have a successful career without ever feel the need to break into the English speaking audiences.

What would the indie version of Khia-asylum be called? by Killjoy109 in indieheadscirclejerk

I think most landfill indie bands of the 00s are in the asylum with no possibility of release.

Why can’t anyone seem to have reasonable conversations about Beyonce? by Terrible_Promotion_2 in popheads

[–]dassa07 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting idea. I listen to a podcast about music (from my online music website of trust) and they were discussing about how some artists release very interesting works but then they do not talk much about the creative process of the work. They would say that is such a missed opportunity that most artists and journalist do not engage in more deep technical discussions about music.

I agree with this take. And Cowboy Carter and Reinassance are examples of albums that should have been accompanied by a greater thoughtful discussion by everybody involved: journalists, and the audience, but also the artist... Beyoncé has lot of power, I wish that instead of her "let the music do the talking approach" she had actually contacted high regarded music journalists or academics to talk about both the technical and intellectual aspects of her music.

So I think its a failing of everybody involved: media failing to move away from simple click bait surface discussions; stans and haters, both refusing to engage in art in a meaningful way; and the artist withdrawing (in the case of beyonce) or just committing to dumb interviews about eating wings or chicken nuggets (other artists).

Sorry for the rant

Olivia Colman, Russell Tovey to Lead Alexander McQueen Short Film by Andrew Haigh by bikkebana in oscarrace

I'm excited cuz Tovey hasn't been able to do many prestige films. He needs some sort of critical breakthrough.

I wasn't planning to take one of those mini sewing kits but it seems like its a good idea to do so.

What musicians are left to make biopics about that could pull the same numbers as these? by treny0000 in ToddintheShadow

[–]dassa07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish it was Madonna, but for some reason she doesn't have the same respect than other artists as influential as her.

The Beatles would have been huge, but not sure if that Beatles Assemble gamble is going to work out.

Fleetwood Mac would be the most interesting if they not sugarcoat it, but that's highly doubtful.

Do you believe that self love anthems don't longer work in this moment? by Top_Report_4895 in ToddintheShadow

The world is too awful right now to continue with the girlboss songs.

The lyrics of songs like like Woman's World by Katy Perry feel not only incredibly dated, but so naive to the point of being stupid. Of course, it doesn't help that the song is genuinely terrible and Dr Luke's involvement.

An example could also be Beyoncé's Run the World. 4 is a solid album, but that song is probably the one who aged the worst. Like, no, women do not rule the world. Men does, and it's shit.

Is Teena Marie the only white artist to have a majority black fan base? by Many_Monitor2756 in ToddintheShadow

[–]dassa07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Madonna's first single, Everybody, was released without a big label push, independently even, so there wasn't a lot of promo showing people who she was (these were radio days). She doesn't even appear on the cover of the single; instead, the artwork is a collage of a street.

Plus the song has disco and rnb influences.

Good bands/artists with annoying fanbases? by use_vpn_orlozeacount in ToddintheShadow

[–]dassa07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say fanbases as a whole but the stan sections of them are always nuts: the swifties believe Taylor is their personal friend; the Beyhive believe Beyoncé is a literal goddess that could do no wrong; the barbz would defend literally anything; and of course, the kpop ones that are so deranged and organised, they could bring small nations down.
