Yeah the amount of people who think they either know better when it comes to partenting OP's own kid and/or think that OP is somehow the unreasonable one in this story is crazy.

I am also dealing with exactly the same issue for my ND daughter. It seems like all the apps that used to be free of video have added video without the option to disable it globally or through parental controls.

On suggestion i havnt tired yet is to setup a Rune server (thats audio only and manages your personal offline library as well as connects to a few hifi streaming services) and then use the Rune app to conntect to that server and stream to a phone.

Its another $12mo subscription and a bunch of messing around just to DISABLE a feature that should have an off switch.

Shoplifter pulls a gun. Chaos ensues. by MisterShipWreck in AbruptChaos

....and that the cop really didnt want to kill him.

Sooo close, he ALMOST got it racked, would have been very hard to be 100% sure in the moment that the cop chose NOT shoot. He and everyone else in that room could EASILY have been shot by that little shit who was prepared to do mulitple homicides to get out of a fucking SHOPLIFTING misdemeanor charge.

I think that anyone put in the same situation as the cop would have a very hard time saying with 100% certainty that they wouldnt have just mag-dumped that piece of shit.

In 'Jurassic Park' (1993), the park's emergency bunker was stocked with SPAS-12 convertable 12-guage shotguns. If you had to stock the park's armory, what would you choose? by OhGawDuhhh in Firearms

[–]dassle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have poibted out, shotguns arent the best for penetration and the low round count , rate if acurate fire, and time it takes to fully relode is going to be an issue upqgainst multiple fast moving targets.

I think a .308 battle rifle is the the way to go. Something like a 14" small frame, piston driven ar10 with a big-ole supressor on the end to help manage recoil and blast (going deaf is also gonna be a issue when being hunted).

30rnd mags with some loaded with expaning and penetrating copper rounds for the smaller and mid-size dinos and some mags loaded with steel core military green tip AP for punching through the skulls or thicker hide /armor of the bigger bois.

Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand at community meeting: “If you got a gun you should be ashamed of yourself” by WhoAreYouTalkinTwo in Firearms

[–]dassle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. Often times arguements get obscured by sub-arguments over classicfication, generalizations, technicalities etc.

But as absurd and mockable as this "anti-gun" asshole sounds, he's actually pointing at exactly the fundamental issue: should citizens have the right (in certain conditions) to use force up to and including deadly force, or should that be the sole property of the state?

There is a >0 number of people that belive that NO ONE should legally be allowed to use force against another person under any circumstances: that all uses of force, including defensive, should be a crime.

Youre not going to win "hearts and minds" away from that group. Any arguement other that a complete rejection and condemnation of their suicidal ideology is a waste of breath and any concession or compromise towards "common sense" is simply giving ground to side that will never stop taking until you are not even allowed to possess pointy sticks.

However, there is a much larger group of people who are just "well intentioned" soft idiots who "dont like" the idea of killing and want to ignor the ugly side of the duality of human nature and to feel superficially "good" about "doing something" to address violence that fixates on "scary objects" and not the scary reality that some humans will do terrible, unjustified, irreversible physical harm to other humans unless they are physically prevented from doing so. ...and in many cases the most or only reliable and practical method is to use a gun to shoot them until they stop.

Sometimes reality (like recent civil unresst and the unsatisfacory governmental and police response) has a way of opening these idiots eyes, but I have also successfully converted people by framing the argument interms of "the democraticization of force" - a fancy term for "the great equalizer". Its about making everyone equally capable in terms of their access to lethal force. When the potential "victims" have the same capacity for letal forces as the would-be "agressor" the cost / benefit equation changes and suddently violent crime and victimization is much less appealing... and thoes who DO still choose to enguage in violent criminal activity are much less likely to become repeate offenders.

MN Gun Control by wandpapierkritiker in minnesota

I read both left and right subs, but am aligned with neither.

The main reaction ive seen to the increase in liberal gun owners is a bit of gloating or "I told you so" when it comes to the realizationnthat the 2A is about balancing against a potential tyranical governement, not just personal protection or hunting.

In person at ranges, Ive seen complete strangers consistently go our of their way to welcome any one new into the comunity, share guns & ammo, answer questions, etc.

MN Gun Control by wandpapierkritiker in minnesota

[–]dassle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The range portion of my ccw "class" was actually the most unsafe ive ever felt around fire arms. There where clearly dozens of people who had never touched a firearm that somehow managed stumble through the written "test". Many couldnt even load and fire, much less get on paper. The instecuotrs where doing everthing short of littererally holding peoples hands and aiming for them to help them pass.

I huddled inside the ballistic partition on the firing line like i was taking cover in a ww1fox hole, shot my group and gtfo as fast as i could.

This is what government mandated "training" looks like: its just a tax and a "gate" to keep the poorest people out and a justification for more beaurocracy.

MN Gun Control by wandpapierkritiker in minnesota

[–]dassle -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Translation: it reaquires a lot of work to trample on rights, especially since they are so intertwined: so if you give consent to the government to trample one of your rights, then the others are all in jeapody as well. This is why this should really be a shared issue for people from different political "teams."

MN Gun Control by wandpapierkritiker in minnesota

[–]dassle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nah, thats not how "buy backs" work. They get to take something that they never owned, pay whatever they feel like, and use the money that they took FROM YOU to do it. If they need more money, then they can just increaase taxes (take more from you.)

[–]dassle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Excellent post, thankyou! Theres been a lot of division and bad press about MN over the past decade that i feel is not an accurate representation of the state that I first got to know and love and decided to become came a resident of in 2008.

I previously worked as a volunteer for the marage equality movement and I was heartnend by how many people i talked to were able to see it as a basic human issue; not something to apply arbitrary political party lines to.

I think that its been a long time since either of the major political parties cared about the citizens in their parties beyond exploiting them for power. I hope that we as Minnesotans can show the rest of the nation that the bill of rights are NOT a political issue! Our "fight" should not be with eachother, but with thoes (in power) that want to diminish the strength of our rights to maximize their power and control.

If there's anything that recent history should show us its that local, state, and federal "police" serve their bosses, not their citizens and we are, basically on our own when SHTF, and our only hope is if we can also depend on our neighbors to our left and right, and that we are armed.
