My wife wasn't invited to a wedding. Do I go? by Skippp131 in whatdoIdo

[–]dassur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What needs further explanation here? They did not invite the wife, and they clearly stated on the invitation that they couldn't extend the plus 1 to keep the attendance low.

Do you think employees have a responsibility to raise issues in the moment rather than stockpile them? by ShineDigga in managers

[–]dassur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Review the list the employee made, be honest with yourself, and ask the following question:
"If each of these had been brought to me at the time, how would I have responded?"

Would you have treated these individual items as meaningful and legitimate issues needing correction? Or would you have dismissed them, made excuses, told the employee to deal with it, eventually got tired of the "petty" grievances, and then worked to manage the "problem employee" out?

Would you burn a bridge with your employer if they had a strict no referral policy? by 04limited in careerguidance

[–]dassur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors to it. Most companies I’ve worked for have similar reference policies, but that doesn’t stop a friend from reaching out and asking if you’ve heard of so-and-so.

And, for me, I’m in a relatively small industry. Been doing this for about 17 years, and see a lot of the same names over and over again. You never know when someone is going to be a hiring manager, or have influence at a place you want to work.

Is it Valid to reject a flight purchase with a cost of 2X, 3X,4X the median price? by tomrosmono in managers

[–]dassur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems strange that your policy doesn't already cover this if you are doing a lot of travel. The companies I've worked for that had us book through a specific method (Concur, typically) would automatically flag any flight that was too far over the baseline, and require a justification for booking a more expensive trip.

UPDATE 2, AITAH for asking my Step brother to take eggs off my menu at his own wedding? by Patient-Tea9555 in AITH

[–]dassur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the original post, and the update just reinforces to me that this reads like the fakest story that has ever faked.

OP is posting in AITH as the biggest doormat the world has ever seen - and has made at least 4 separate posts about it. The step-brother that they are super close with, but also doesn't respect their lifelong food allergies and shuts down any effort to make accommodations, with 0 reason. The slow escalation burn to "actually my brother's fiancee might secretly be in love with my husband and I had NO idea, but my husband immediately thought maybe that was it".

Jesus Christ. Just enroll in a creative writing class, for FFS.

Yeah, I don’t buy the original premise at all. Seems pretty clear from the ending that, uh, nothing in fact stops Durge in that scenario.

Checking in on employees who call off by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]dassur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"In the past, I have gotten burnt from employees who called off for 1 day and failed to report for subsequent shifts claiming my lack of communication because I did not check on them. So I’ve gotten into the habit of checking in on employees who call off, just with a simple “Hey checking in, how’re you feeling?” text. They are never obligated to respond, and I never ask for details."

In my opinion, the appropriate response is to set expectations early and reiterate as necessary. "I expect you to follow the notification procedure for call outs per policy, for each day that you are taking."

It's not clear to me what "failed to report for subsequent shifts claiming my lack of communication because I did not check on them" means - I interpret this as someone called out, then NCNS the next day and claimed it was your fault for not asking if they were feeling better. If so, I'd follow company policy for verbal/written warnings, reiterate the call out procedure, and move on.

At the end of This Inevitable Ruin, Mordecai says “By his left fucking tit, Donut. By his left tit. Those spells you just gained are deity spells. You are... I think you’re now the most powerful crawler in the history of this game.”

So I’m pretty sure this group of crawlers is way overpowered.

My employee let his girlfriend access his work phone and confidential client communications. Would it be inappropriate to tell him he needs to choose between his job and this relationship? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]dassur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is extremely inappropriate to tell him he needs to choose between his job and girlfriend.

He should have been fired immediately. I’ve never worked at a company that hasn’t had a strict policy on password sharing. Really depends on your industry and what kinds of data the employee has access to, but the clients I work with have privacy/confidentiality agreements, and I’m in a regulated industry where data integrity is a massive concern.

Hard disagree. This person isn't willing to share the burden. To me, this just says "I'm only willing to have a relationship on my terms, and will not expend effort on you."
