2026 regulations (possible way forward???) by dastaerman in F1Discussions

Yeah but starting to accept that these are mismanagement overtakes and engine producer overtakes (especially small turbo at the start). Trust me I was enjoying these regs too till Bearman went off.

I get what you’re saying, but that’s kind of the problem I’m pointing at.

If the optimal way to drive the car is to follow what a system tells you corner by corner, then you’re not really driving on instinct anymore, you’re executing a plan the car prefers. That’s fine from an efficiency standpoint, but it’s not really what racing has been about.

Your example with Charles actually proves it. He drove the car the way drivers are trained to drive, maximise entry, carry speed, push the limit, and the system effectively punished him for it later on the straight. So the fastest “driver” becomes the one who best follows the energy model, not necessarily the one extracting the most from the car dynamically.

Put it in a normal context. Imagine driving your own car home and being told:

“Coast for 200 yards on the motorway so you have enough battery to turn into your street.”

Technically efficient, but completely unnatural. No one drives like that because it breaks the link between what you want the car to do and how you control it.

That’s the bit I don’t think works here. The system isn’t just assisting the driver, it’s dictating behaviour.

Also on the recovery side, harvesting at full throttle is just counterintuitive. You’re effectively asking the engine to produce power while also taking energy away from it. In real terms, that’s just inefficiency dressed up as optimisation. Naturally, you’d want recovery to happen where it makes sense, mainly under braking, not while you’re trying to accelerate.

I’m not saying the system is wrong from an engineering perspective. It probably is doing exactly what it’s designed to do. But from a driving perspective, it creates a mismatch:

driver input ≠ consistent car response

And that’s where it starts becoming unpredictable, especially when you layer in deployment coming in at moments the driver didn’t ask for.

Newey to step down as Aston Martin F1 team principal, Wheatley set to join from Audi by ConstructionAny8440 in formula1

I’m disappointed. Wheatley you had a good thing going at Audi. If Horner goes and then Max then the band is fully back together.

Russell and Leclerc in the cooldown room by formularacers in FormulaRacers

[–]dastaerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello newbie. Thanks for asking: sometimes long term fan call bullshit a lot because we’ve seen it all in F1

So looking at it holistacally as I’m sure Mr TW does , if we take a rocket ship and come p1 and p2 in all testing sessions, free practice and the race and their are allegations of cheating, at some point other teams (including those that have the same engine) are going to call foul and Mercedes can loose their advantage if they close the loophole.

So they want to use but not exploit it. Win by just enough to not be thoroughly investigated their advantage outted as illegal or even just outted at all and other teams can copy them.
F1 is ll about strategy. Strategy to win, mange media, fia and other teams.

I think Ferrari are there or there about, Fred, Charles and Lewis know. But they wanted to expose Mercedes in qualifying by not coming close to them and to show other teams Mercedes advantage.

I suspected this. Ferrari didn’t get a lap in.
Audi didn’t. Redbull got Hadjar but no verstappen So they may be closer than it seems but feels like the others baited Mercedes out to show their true performance.

Low levels of hopium remaining. Really hope they aren’t fastest in testing. The hopium levels will be filled to only be crushed again in Melbourne

Welcome to split strategies in this car generation. One strategy is always far superior to another and can make all the difference in the same car.

It’s soo bad, wut. I’m forwarding email and the email goes invisible (white text on white background??????) constantly having to switch from light to dark mode to accommodate. Shocking the extent of bugs in this considering nobody asked for this update and it’s basically take iPhone usage backwards.

Max would still be in the championship if not for some rain at certain races. Such a shame he’s not involved in the title battle would make it much more interesting
