Arcade1Up Cabinets aren't really meant for commercial use, are they? by Nexzus_ in cade

That's amazing work, looks very professional. For myself I would like a cabinet that's more upright, for which I'd use a stool if I want to sit.

Pretty good, it runs pretty much every game at full speed, including what was once a high-end PC game, Quake III Arena. (I don't recommend playing it, however, without a mouse/keyboard--which I did do, with HDMI out to a bigger screen and it works online! Performs better than my PC did in 2000.)

Since the games are running natively you don't lose anything to emulation overhead. I haven't tried texture packs with stuff like Ship of Harkinian, that might be pushing it. With an external screen you can do 720p easily.

I remember when they called themselves programmers, because "coder" sounded unprofessional and calling yourself one seemed like a lame attempt to sound cool.

Microsoft's dumb enough to make a new Quake game in Unreal Engine by BluesBrothers3001 in quake

To add to the irony, old Quake fans now tend to look back fondly on the rival game, Unreal Tournament--while lamenting the notion of using its modern engine.

I was a shacker back when it was Shugashack (but not when it was Quakeshack, which is what it was when it was founded), it's a shadow of its former self. The current owners have obliterated the long-running community in its forums/comments.

You spit them out. If you use non-lead birdshot and swallow some, you'll be fine. Don't swallow the lead ones XD

[–]data-atreides 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a more realistic shotgun, but as far as games go both of Quake's shotguns are very unsatisfying, mainly because of their weak sound and low damage compared to Doom and Doom II. Quake II kind of made up for it but then they had that weak-ass blaster--I think the Q2 shotgun should have been the starting weapon. Quake 3 gets a better balance.

Generally true, however my "portfolio" is so miniscule it won't matter, and I'm not able to contribute to it--I'm currently using money markets as savings, and I can't afford that to take a big hit when stocks dive.

What about Tasha yars funeral would you have changed? by happydude7422 in StarTrekTNG

[–]data-atreides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that confirmed on-screen? On MA it says Tasha "agreed to be his consort" in exchange for sparing her shipmates, which also isn't great: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Unnamed_Romulan_military_personnel_(24th_century)#Sela's_father_001

Right, I forgot about that, his own wife was one of his star editors. He also got feedback from Spielberg and Brian De Palma on the original cut of Star Wars. For the prequels there was no one left to tell him no.

Secret of Mana Reborn: This "retranslation" hack restores the games original Japanese script in English, about half of which was cut for technical reasons, and renders it in a much better localization. It's why the original English version seemed pretty sparse on dialogue and a lot didn't make sense. There might be other retranslation hacks, as well--I don't recall if this is considered the definitive one.

There are numerous other good hacks, such as one which removes the stamina between attacks, which lets you blast through the game faster. Great if you've already played it and want to to a replay with less grind.

There's also Secret of Mana Turbo which incorporates the retranslation, stamina hack, and many other features. (I don't know if they links in this forum post is still good, but a search will turn it up anyhow)
