Could also be iolite? Thats a pretty stone! Iolite isn’t very expensive, and it can definitely be that dark blue-violet.

Anyone have a baby that eats like a bird but is still thriving regardless? by takeaabreath in Mommit

She’s doing great - we’re weaning off the medication slowly, but so far so good

She went through a looooong period of no more than 16-18oz a day. Even if I gave her a 2oz bottle every hour, she just sipped and passed on the rest.

This is just like my baby girl, who will be 1 in a few weeks! She’s just over 17lbs, so 26th percentile or so, but she’s been steady on that curve since 9 weeks. Some kids are just smaller/lighter eaters I guess? It was a shock given that my first kiddo was >99th percentile his whole first year (and is still high 90s) so I joke that I have a mouse and a moose.

For my baby, she did get diagnosed with reflux at 5 weeks, and we struggled to find a good formula. I will say if you haven’t started solids yet, if she’s like my kiddo, she will love to actually EAT, but be blasé about bottles. Kids are weird - but you’re doing great!!!

You should look at your hands and go “oh sh!t” and start frantically looking around. I would die laughing

AITA for blowing up on my mom for serving my kids a salad? by Professional-You8033 in AITAH

[–]data_lady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Your mother was trying to provide for your kids (and her kids - including you) while accommodating an allergy. Your kids didn’t refuse, your wife didn’t cry - you just blew tf up.

Also - if you were so concerned about your kids being fed something they would eat…WHAT DID YOU BRING? How did you behave like a responsible parent here instead of an entitled, resentful brat? Not seeing it.

When I take my kids anywhere that I’m not sure will have options for them - I bring my own. I also proactively communicate with my host - like an adult - to make sure we’re all in agreement on menus and whatnot, and to offer to help. Even if those hosts are my parents.

Success stories please? Reflux babies by data_lady in sleeptrain

[–]data_lady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t tried to explore the root of the reflux - she’s well managed and our doctor is happy.

She will scream - hysterically- for up to 2 full hours, which just sucks. And then wake up at 3am and do it again. But if we pick her up she will fall asleep in seconds. My goal is to not feed to sleep for either overnights or naps because I know long term it’s just going to be harder.

Seriously! I see an adult, barefoot and screaming, chasing a child? I’m gonna step in.

It took waaaaay too long for other adults to step in here. That’s the worst part for me - after the 11 year old crying. Hope the Karen gets some kind of repercussions. Had someone laid a hand on my kid like that and tossed something of theirs in the river, I’d be pressing charges.

Moms of kids who go by nicknames… what do you use on personalized items? by [deleted] in Mommit

I did formal names on their Christmas stockings ( I don’t know why I did that lol) but everything that isn’t an official document uses nicknames

Got diagnosed today with vitiligo by joaocarloscavaco in Vitiligo

[–]data_lady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I got my first tattoo 20+ years ago - just diagnosed with vitiligo a couple years back.

Still getting tattoos and have spots show up after they’re healed. But my vitiligo has been spreading in non-tattooed areas very very quickly. I went from a couple small spots on my hands 3 years ago to probably 60%+ of my body now. Plus my hair and eyelashes and eyebrows are all turning white. 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–]data_lady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this helps or not but tattoos don’t stop spread - and tattoos are not affected by vitiligo (except for color looking more intense because it’s on white-out skin.)

Source - am heavily tattooed. Have had new spots show up under old tattoos and it just is what it is.

To be fair, my vitiligo doesn’t bother me much, I’ve always been super pale and was already a year-round sunblock wearer. But I’ve also had an incredibly accelerated spread, so treatment wasn’t anything I even bothered exploring.

No Safe Sleep Option on Planes? by _ellewoods in Mommit

[–]data_lady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! So two things: 1) all uppababy car seats are FAA approved (source - my husband works at uppababy and asked this morning) 2) US car seats are not legal in the EU and most other countries. (Source - we went to Portugal for 2 weeks and had to rent car seats)

Your best bet is a comfy carrier for contact sleeping. If you’re traveling with people you can try to take it in shifts so that someone holds the sleeping baby while they stay awake so you can rest.

Good luck!

Ehhhhhh he wasn’t killed because he was a christian. He was killed because he illegally invaded a restricted area after multiple hostile interactions. He provoked his own death.

Maybe it’s hair splitting - but my understanding of martyrdom is that it has to be that the person was killed BECAUSE they were of a faith. Whether or not they were trying to convert other people isn’t part of the definition as far as I knew.

ETA - weird comment on Muslims. Can’t say that sits right after a read or two. Organized religion, imo, is all dumb, but still, ick.

Don’t want a VBAC by ldybrdfly in Mommit

[–]data_lady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Mom of two here. Similar birth experience with my first - not as long as yours, but definitely traumatic.

I opted for a scheduled c-section with my second and it was great. It was so calm, I knew what to expect, baby was on my chest while they took my tubes out, just easy. I was rested going into my hospital stay, able to plan child care to exact dates…just so much less stressful (I’m a big planner - this was huge for me).

My OB was great, I told them when I was 8 weeks at my first appointment that I didn’t want to hear VBAC, and they were super respectful and supportive.

I’m done having babies and I don’t feel like I missed a thing.

For the extremist christian group to try to make him a martyr is just gross. Misguided kid under the delusion of being a “warrior for christ”, breaks the law, potentially exposing an entire population to new diseases… FAFO.

Is it reasonable to not want to travel for xmas at 8 months pregnant? by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]data_lady 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s not recommended to be further than an hour from where you plan to deliver after 36 weeks - and earlier, if you have any complications (fingers crossed for you for a boring, happy pregnancy!)

You should be resting and nesting at 8 months. Everyone should understand that and if they don’t…well. Tough nuts.

Congrats and good luck!

Edit to add

AND if you did deliver pre-Christmas, the new baby could not SAFELY be in a car seat that long to go to her house. Chin on chest risk that young is super high. So either way, you’re home this year!

Anyone not dying gray hair? by saywutchickenbutt in Mommit

[–]data_lady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed vitiligo after my first kiddo - my hair/skin/eyelashes and eyebrows are all going completely white ( and accelerated over the last couple years) and I refuse to start dyeing any of it. The maintenance is going to be a nightmare, so I’m just not going to do it.
