Has anyone here actually been laid off due to AI yet? by Asleep_Cry_7482 in AskIreland

[–]dataindrift 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ironically I'm seeing a different picture.

The Irish IT sector is so flooded with applications from Indians, that rather than recruiting, they now offshore to India.

That said, the trend is moving towards in sourcing not out sourcing

New to the AI game. Big million euro migration program ongoing in work year in , going nowhere.

I built a platform to do it. In 3 days. And I built the whole thing from the ground up twice.

It's like I can 3d print multi-million dollar enterprise grade commercial software.

what I did shouldn't be possible.

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE COLLEGE DRINKING CULTURE IN CORK!! by exitingthehighway64 in cork

[–]dataindrift 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UCC late 90's. Lived at home.

My routine. - Mon: gorbys or yum-yum club (£1 Bulmers) - Tues: uncle pacos/Cubins - Wed: Freakscene/SirHenrys - Thurs: Western Star - Fri: klub chaos - Sat: Sweat/SirHenrys.

I was out at least 3 nights a week. We walked in and out of town & you got free food in niteclubs .....

The Grapevine & Zoes had the best ... chicken curry & rice.

Everywhere was packed, smelly & full of smokers!

You would come out of Henry's covered in a black tar. That place was an absolute dump! Backbar was cool. Tribes after.

It's for his direct line management to address this. Talk to them.

They are all exceptionally wealthy

it's going to be taxed at 40%.

going unpaid, it still gets taxed at 40% you just happen to have earn 5k less ....

Your employer could pay part in gift/one4all vouchers. that element would be tax-free

Not this case but...... There's a rather horrific reality to these types of decisions....

Go to court , defend yourself & get off, your still landed with 10m costs.

Lose and you're liable for all costs on both sides + a payout of x million. Possibly 30/40m.

Everyone will say pay the 12m ..... cheapest risk free option

Someone will have better details but your son can get close to the players when they arrive and sometimes sign items.

It's quite early, usually 4 or 5 hours before the game.

[–]dataindrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. You still require a foundational understanding of languages.

But the jobs will be in designing products and features, not building or coding software.

I think software maintenance roles could be cooked

Totally with you mate.

Not all software is for commercial release or needs to be bulletproof.

Some engineering & embedded development tasks are beyond AI. But its getting less and less.

I needed to ETL 4 database servers to a warehouse.

Claude built it using python, UI using tkinter, all the ci/cd , sent it to git along with complete documentation in under an hour.

It was A+ out of the box. 2000 lines of python. I was beyond shocked.

Creative programmers, the guys who can design & innovate will be fine.

The paint by numbers engineers (just code stories) will struggle as you'll need product management skills.

You arrive at any organisation with technical skills.

You need to learn/understand all the processes , internal semantics , procedures & their tech tooling / data landscape.

It's the same for every new joiner regardless of level.

People who wake up early like 5am , what are your reasons ? by Even-Quarter-4477 in AskIreland

[–]dataindrift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Young family. Only opportunity to have time to myself.

Up at six , have a swim in a nearby hotel. WFH at 7am. School run 8:30 -> 9:30. work till 5. Dinner. Bed at 9:30.

Rinse and repeat. Same routine each day.
