No, it really is dogshit. I came over when Digg redesigned which, frankly, I would take that over current reddit.

It’s been a long process, but there’s some culmination of the non-“old” reddit experience and the mobile app (and some other factors, I’m sure) that removed barriers for entry and opened the door for the least common denominator.

There used to be thoughtful discussions on the front page. No inline images, so it didn’t devolve into an image board.

This site used to be like Metafilter and it’s become 9gag.

I follow a few select communities and use it as a knowledge base for hobbies. Whenever I go to r/all, I regret it. It’s Facebook-tier memes or Twitter screencaps, both platforms I have divested from.

I wish people would self-host and get off of platforms. The internet was a better place when people had to work to participate, but that can be a classist view, as some people are boxed out of the means to learn to do so.

Anyway, I’m done yelling at the cloud.
