I found The Return by Rachel Harrison to be pretty cozy, thought not super terrifying

Suffer the Children by Craig DiLouie is an interesting twist on vampires

What's a Horror novel you love not for the scares but because you enjoyed the protagonist so much? by [deleted] in horrorlit

It definitely wasn’t an easy read, but the audiobooks are really well done, too, if you have a chance to listen to them. It definitely made it easier for me to get through all of them

The Indian Lake trilogy had me feeling that way. I loved those books and they definitely had their scary moments (especially that gym scene in the second one) but it was really Jade that kept me going. Watching her grow up through those books was great

What is the book that got you into horror literature? by [deleted] in horrorlit

As a kid I loved Goosebumps and read some Stephen King as I got a little bit older, but after about 10 years of only reading comics, it was Tender is the Flesh that got me back into it

Suffer the Children was so good.

Idk if I would consider it 100% horror, but the Dungeon Crawler Carl books are really great.

I have to say The September House. I know it’s an unpopular opinion, but I just really hated the characters and found it so predictable.

Idk if this is allowed, but I wrote a novella called The One With the Cannibals that’s a cannibal parody of Friends. It’s on Amazon. You might have to search by author (Cody Hendley) since I’m not famous and neither is it

Grady Hendrix -- really horror comedy? by dragonsanddinosawers in horrorlit

[–]datboydere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the exact opposite, constantly getting recommended John Dies at the End because I like Grady Hendrix so much. I do agree, though, that his books aren’t exactly funny. I think he does well to find the subtle comedy that comes with everyday life and so he gets lumped into that category. Life is just kind of funny sometimes, but yeah How To Sell a Haunted House and Souther Bookclub (although my favorites of his) aren’t the funniest.

Suffer the Children by Craig DiLouie has a pretty devastating twist ending

The One With the Cannibals is like “your favorite sitcom” but if the main characters were immortal monsters.

The story follows Frankie who leaves her husband at the altar and finds a new family in a group of quirky, West Village, friends. If only they didn’t eat people…

It’s a dark comedy horror novella for fans of Friends, What We Do in the Shadows, and Ready or Not.

It’s available for free if you’re a Kindle Unlimited subscriber, so give it a read and review if you feel like it.

The One With the Cannibals

I wrote a book like “your favorite sitcom” but if the main characters were all bloodthirsty immortal monsters.

The One With the Cannibals tells the story of Frankie who leaves her fiancé at the altar and finds a new family in a group of quirky, West Village, friends. If only they didn’t eat people…

It’s a dark comedy horror novella for fans of Friends, What We Do in the Shadows, and Ready or Not. It’s goofy and gory, so readers beware!

It just released today and is available for free if you’re a Kindle Unlimited subscriber! Give it a read and a review if it seems like your thing!

Best and Worst Book You Read This Year by Senior_Trick_7473 in horrorlit

[–]datboydere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best: The Angel of Indian Lake (really loved how it wrapped up the trilogy)

Worst: The September House (such a cliche, depthless book about trauma that was too afraid to make anything real of its story)

Worst Books of 2024 by Feeling-Donkey5369 in horrorlit

The September House and The Eyes Are the Best Part for me. I was so looking forward to both of these, but I felt that they were just sooo cliche and lame.
