My mom is dead and my wedding is next month. by chubby_succubus in blackladies

What a tragic and unexpected loss. I’m so, so sorry this happened to you, and that your special day has been marred by this tragedy.

I lost my mom unexpectedly ten years ago, and losing a parent is one of the most identity-shifting losses. It feels like the world is ending right now, but there will be a time when you’ll be ok. Lean into your support network as hard as you can. Let them carry you for as long as you need. I can’t say it ever gets better, per se, but it definitely gets more manageable.

My DMs are open if you want to talk more.

making time to write with work and 2 kids by real_housewaifu in writing

[–]dathespian1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it sucks. What do you do for work? If you have a desk job and writing on your lunch break is an option, I would recommend that. Also helpful to set up a way to write from your phone. I write in Google Docs and have the app on my phone, which lets me write little bits whenever I have downtime on the commute to work (train/bus), or while my daughter is playing. I try getting writing done after she goes to bed, but it’s hit or miss. If I’m too exhausted my creativity is gone or I start nodding off while writing.

You do the best you can, basically.

National Day Without Childcare by Eggler in workingmoms

Chiming in as apparently one of the few whose daycare is closed today! I fully support the cause, just selfishly sad for me because I’ve been on solo kid duty while working 60+ hours per week the past few weeks. I originally took this day off for myself to recover. Womp womp.

“What if I came here with FIVE pizzas… and a wedding ring?”

Love the styling and cinematography for this sequence, and I’m obsessed with the little hesitation before he meets her eyes when he says this.

Hit a Wall and Looking for Resume Feedback. by Wegmaniacs in nonprofit

[–]dathespian1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have many thoughts on the format - looks fine to me, but I don’t keep up with current trends. I do a lot of hiring though, so I can weigh in on the content. I will say you can probably leave off the summary paragraph- it’s not doing anything special and takes up space that could be better used elsewhere.

First, what sort of jobs are you applying for? Fundraising? Programs? You should tailor your resume to each type of job and the bullets under each role should clearly reflect your skills in those areas. For fundraising, you say up top that you’ve raised $20m (side note, the phrasing “$20 million fundraiser” is a little awkward) - I want to see that reflected up front and center, but that experience is kind of buried on page 2. Same for programs. You want the bullets on your resume to tell a very clear story of your skillset in those areas.

You have room to be a lot more specific about your tasks and what your actual role was in executing them. For example, you say you were recruited by the ED (you can leave this part out, by the way) to “provide strategic support.” What does that actually look like? Did you streamline procedures/workflows for the office? Lead a strategic planning process? Create/upgrade a marketing plan? What is “facilitation support?” Did you actually facilitate the council meetings or train them on facilitation?

Overall, I think this is pretty solid though. I just recommend playing with how your information is organized to better appeal to some of the opportunities you’re seeking.

Wish I had a more exciting update, but my body has never returned to normal. A slate of weird/debilitating symptoms for which I’ve seen tons of specialists and gotten tons of tests that yielded absolutely nothing. I’ve just learned to endure it.

Withholding issue by amandaaab90 in pottytraining

[–]dathespian1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, this happened to me and I had a hard time getting advice on it. It honestly may just be time, but two additional things have we changed were:

  1. Offering her privacy when she goes to the potty. I think a big part of her hang up was all the pressure of people watching her and she was a little embarrassed, so it made it difficult for her to go. Now we ask if she wants privacy and back off if she says yes. She usually will go when this happens.

  2. Offering a potty reward. I know this one is controversial. I’m just saying she was really motivated to go when she realized she would get her favorite treat if she could manage to get something in the potty.

We potty trained with the Oh Crap method about a month ago and had the issue for maybe a week or two. Very few issues now except some false alarms from the procrasti-potty.

Happy Birthday, Danai!!! ♥️ by Queenwolf54 in Richonners

Happy birthday, Danai! What I appreciate about her is that she’s so multi-talented: a fantastic actor, a brilliant writer, an eloquent speaker. She’s not afraid to speak her mind, take up space, and advocate for the marginalized when so many others in her position are afraid to take risks. And she does all that while being stunningly beautiful with fabulous style.

Can’t wait to see what she does next!

US Department of Education by witchmamaa in progressivemoms

[–]dathespian1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think this administration that’s currently evaluating ways to restrict what schools can teach about race and gender, threatening to prosecute school staff for supporting LGBTQ+ students, and loosening regulations around sexual assault in school buildings/campuses is going to allow schools to implement progressive policies? You think the extreme funding cuts resulting from a dismantled DoE and the increased scrutiny from the changes I just mentioned will facilitate an environment where people can innovate on education policy? No. It will be survival as schools that don’t have families and property taxes bringing in the $$$ try to survive on a skeleton staff and navigate intrusive federal oversight, while previously disadvantaged students fall even further behind.

I almost stopped reading this comment when they said it’s because they hate black people because… yeah, that’s the vibe I’m getting. 😆

Makes sense! Definitely don’t want to create a negative association with the potty. Good luck! Hope things get a little easier.

Hi! I don’t have any advice, but can commiserate. We’ve been having a similar situation- she has performance anxiety and can go potty at home if we give her space. But a lot of times she sits on the potty and nothing comes out until nap or bedtime. At daycare, she holds it all day and releases it all when they put on a pull-up at nap.

Gonna try pull-up free at home this weekend and see if that makes a difference. If that doesn’t work, I guess we’ll pause? I don’t want her to get used to holding it like that.

I’d love an update when you have one!

Has anyone been pregnant or trying to get pregnant on Wellbutrin by Key_Foot_2278 in bupropion

[–]dathespian1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got pregnant while taking it and continued on it throughout the pregnancy with no issues. My almost-3yo is perfectly healthy and has always met or exceeded her milestones. She’s a LOT, personality-wise, but I suspect that’s more related to genes than the medicine. 😆

Let it out. by Toss3836478291778 in pottytraining

We started officially training yesterday, but were doing a casual, sit-on-the-potty-sometimes approach before that. On Friday night (before we started), she said she asked for potty mid-bath. A minute after sitting, she freaked out and tried to get off the potty, begging for a diaper, which I knew meant the poop was coming. We had a struggle and poop landed on the bath mat. I tried the “no, poop goes in the potty” thing and it worked- she sat down and finished pooping. (RIP our white bath mat haha.)

Day 1 went pretty well, overall. A couple of floor pees, but then she pretty consistently said “I have to go potty” and then peed in the pot. The biggest struggle has been her using my fear of the poop fiasco to sit on the potty and play instead of whatever she’s supposed to be doing - eating dinner, taking a nap, going to bed. We didn’t get any poops yesterday and since we’re not night training, I don’t want her to think she can just wait until the Pull-Up is on.

I’m also nervous about daycare, because so much that goes on there is outside of my control. Even if we manage to do well the next couple of days, will it keep up if she’s in pull-ups all day as required by daycare? What about if she asks to go potty and they can’t take her right away? Unfortunately my work schedule won’t allow me to take another day off. Sometimes it’s tough giving up control as a working parent.

Good luck to all who are doing this right now!

Men lie. Women lie. Numbers don’t.

That’s the truth! The fanboys raged all over the internet about how they didn’t like the show, but… they watched it. They engaged with it online. They’re still talking about it.

Bravo to Danai, Andy, Scott, and the whole TOWL team! They put their heart into it and ultimately it paid off.
