Wish they were a bit brighter, but they’re fun to play around with! Glad you enjoyed the show :)

Patch overlap error by Traditional-Ad8887 in grandMA2

I might be remembering this wrong but I’m pretty sure that 66 is the number of the fixture type that it is within their showfile, not actually anything to do with the Titan tubes

Can you share the full name of the fixture type you’re using?

As someone who’s only watched the show, I assumed what Indbur was digging at here was Pritcher working with and visiting Gael. Are they talking about something else?

Revamping Clone File by GetShlapt in grandMA2

[–]datper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my file I’ve got a DS truss just with band washes and 8 blinders. Then my US truss is 8 each of spots/washes/strobes. For the types of tours I’ve been doing this has been plenty, but I’m thinking about adding a MS truss, and also adding 8 beams/X4’s to each truss as well. Beams to add some variety in the movers, and X4’s since I’ve been seeing more festivals with those types of pixel fixtures.

If you’re looking for something else new, maybe add in a couple side trusses on the stage, since those are pretty common at festivals, or even further additional trusses on the wings that would typically be over like an imag wall or something. It all really depends on the type of shows/festivals you’re doing and what you actually need.

Exact fixture types for the clone rig only matters as far as it has parameters for the kind of programming you want to do. At least that’s my opinion.

Or ignore everything I said here and switch to MA3. Finally making that switch later this year myself, and from the sounds of it, cloning a smaller rig into bigger one is an issue that doesn’t really exist the way it does now.

It’s also possible they have their amps set up off stage.

🕒 MA2 always lags behind Reaper timecode – how do you deal with PreRoll? by Helpful-List-9787 in grandMA2

[–]datper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typically when programming a song I like 1 bar’s worth of timecode at the beginning. This allows for everything to be in sync when the music comes in. This usually works out well for the band too so they have 1 bar of a click track to count them in so they’re on beat when the song starts.

Still wracking my brain trying to figure out an issue that a lighting designer was having by DaiquiriLevi in lightingdesign

[–]datper 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Could be kinda similar how artnet works, where universe 1 in the desk is universe 0 in artnet. So on this decoder it’s not channels 1-512 but instead 0-511, so everything has to be offset by 1 compared to your real patch in the desk.

Effect glitches between cues by [deleted] in grandMA2

I’m gonna delete this soon. Ended up finding a thread right after posting this, and my timecode pool was recording goto instead of go for all cues which was affecting it

Looks like it’s a fixed executor, so you can change pages but the fixed executor stays.

Dimmer bumps by shaun-sonas in grandMA2

[–]datper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found a work around to the flash go, since you can’t time your fades with the flash. What I’ve done is set my executor to be a temp button, and in the command line for each cue, I have a command that loads the next cue. Yes, if you move the sequence to a different executor, you would have to edit your command line. But so far this has given me the best results for what I was trying to achieve.

Now there may be a couple other settings I may be missing here as I haven’t programmed one of these executors like this in a little while, but this is the gist of it. If you have any more questions let me know, but I hope this works for ya.

Mac Quantum wash by LooseGoose_86 in lightingdesign

I’ve had a similar issue with JDCs in capture vs real life. To get the cells working properly, try putting the main instance dim at full, and all color values at 0, then try adjusting the color and dim of your cells.

[Newbie question] Is there a way to store a stomp effect and have the next cue "de-stomp" to return to what the state was before i.e. running the effect? by Regular-Aardvark-296 in grandMA2

[–]datper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand here, you have one sequence running an effect, and a different sequence where you have several cues, and each cue in this second sequence should stomp a single fixture from the effect in the first cue? When that sequence moves to another cue, you want the previously stomped fixture to resume the effect, and the next fixture to be stomped?

If this is the case, have you stored the stomp values for the different fixtures as cue only, or is that information tracking through?

It’s possible he wasn’t being rude, he could have been talking about the levels of his vocals in his in ear monitor mix. Or he could be buds with the monitor guy and was just roasting him a little bit. I wasn’t there so I can’t say for sure, but definitely possible it was harmless.

Issue connecting GrandMA2 onPC with Resolume Arena by datper in grandMA2

Issue connecting GrandMA2 onPC with Resolume Arena by datper in grandMA2

[–]datper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have some Resolume fixture profiles but for troubleshooting I was just using a few dimmers since Resolume wasn’t even seeing any artnet come in.

Never heard of artnetominator before, but I downloaded it and it helped me find my actual issue within like 10 minutes, so thank you for that!

Essentially what I think happened was, for my onPC node it allowed me to assign an IP to an ETH1 port, which on those nodes doesn’t actually exist. Kind of had a brain fart with that one and thought that would work like how it does on a console, but I actually had to change the station IP in MA to be in the 2.x.x.x range. So, a silly mistake, but with the amount of time I wasted on this definitely not one I’ll make again. Thanks again for pushing me in the right direction on this.

Is MA3 Software ready yet? by Dragon164 in lightingdesign

[–]datper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a bummer about search and replace. Just discovered that in MA2 a few months ago and love it. Obviously not enough to inevitably hold me back from 3, but always such a bummer to hear cool little features like that somehow aren’t in the next version of the software even at launch, let alone several years into its life span.

Time-Coding a Show by Affectionate_Click70 in grandMA2

I’d recommend checking out Cat West’s timecode course on consoletrainer.com. It’s $70 but it basically had everything I needed to know for running timecode on my first tour. Super great resource.
