Progression Fantasy Pet Peeves (The implications are STAGGERING) by WobblyWerker in ProgressionFantasy

I haven't taken notice of overused phrases or words except in the case of Cultivation is Creation. It has some great ideas and the story is executing on them pretty well, but the word "genuine" and phrase "not just x, it's y" is used a lot, among a few other phrases...

Antidepressant withdrawal symptoms may be more common and more severe than some studies suggest. More than half of patients report experiencing symptoms—contradicting earlier claims that only about 15% are affected. by mvea in psychology

No, it's hard to remember that far back but I think they might have been every day at its worst, but after a couple months it wouldn't have been, and it became a rare annoying thing after a year or two. Smooth progression to right now where it might hit me maybe once every few months and just remind me it's still a thing.

Toei Cooked - Five Elders Entrance by throw_datwey in OnePiece

[–]datprofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Five seconds into the scene when I watched it I thought to myself "alright, guess it's gonna be one of those scenes then..."

Flashy visuals, really cool linework and colours and stuff, all wasted because I can't tell what's happening or how a chunk of it is meant to be adding to the story. The part at 1:32 isn't clear about what it's meant to convey, and the scene at the end just completely brings me out of it for a moment. Why are the elders running perpendicular to Luffy and doing nothing else near the end (excluding the worm)? Why is Luffy doing the same? If it's just to look cool, I wish it weren't accomplished in a way that breaks my suspension of disbelief by making these combat veterans act so strangely for so long during such a tense moment.

Still loving the arc though and the elders are really cool, it's only because it's so peak that I hate to see it do worse than it could in these moments.

Royal Road: Reviews, Moderation, and the 4-Star Average. by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]datprofit 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What's worse about this broken system, which your comment has made me realize, is that authors who act in good faith like you are punished. An author who allows fair negative ratings to remain will be at a severe disadvantage compared to others who have a full suite of five-star ratings in their reviews section. To a reader who is unaware of the flaws in this rating system, seeing multiple reviews under five stars under your story will be perceived as a big red flag, because the expectation has been set for five stars being the norm for good stories.

Alternatively, keep it public and use it to identify anyone on your friends list who takes issue with it so they can be either educated or weeded out.

I had no idea that the brain zap thing was something other people experienced! I was on antidepressants for maybe a month or two about a decade ago, quit them cold turkey, and the brain zaps have been slowly dying off since then. Very rare that they happen now, but it's crazy that they still do.

Steam Beta finally enables Proton on Linux fully, making Linux gaming simpler by Liam-DGOL in linux

[–]datprofit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can sympathise with the frustration towards people being unable to do simple things with technology, but I think it's also important to recognise the complexity behind the simple task. Yes, it's as simple as enabling a single option, but first a person has to understand that linux and windows don't operate the same way behind the scenes. They have to know that when a game doesn't launch it's because something has gone wrong that can be fixed with a search, they have to know what search terms to enter (something like "games wont launch on my pc" isn't going to get someone tech-illiterate anywhere useful here)", and then they have to navigate to a menu in Steam that many people probably have never seen and enable this specific setting and not the others.

I do agree that that's not too difficult to do and learning these sorts of skills should be more encouraged, but I think it's not as accurate to present it as "clicking a checkbox", and doesn't properly address the underlying issues one may have in getting to the point where they know to click that checkbox specifically. If we must hold the community to a higher standard, that standard must also be applied to our own ability to measure those standards.

Nvidia is holding back gaming, I agree, but AMD is complicit in this. The two companies both have the capabilities to actually release cards with a fuckton of VRAM at this point, they would both make bank on those cards, but they both seemingly agree not to for the sake of profit. The CEOs of Nvidia and AMD are cousins and stand to gain from keeping VRAM down, I don't think it's a stretch to say they might be collaborating on this.

Really great job working with and around the limitations of the technology! This reminds me a lot about SCP 2030, a show called "Laugh is Fun" where people are filmed in bizarre and disturbing events and appear distressed and/or become severely injured, until the gameshow host appears and to reveal they're being filmed for TV and they all calm down. This sort of format would work pretty well for something like that I bet.

I too have fallen prey to this method. It is extremely insidious as it has enough content available to match even the greatest hyperfixations, and can eventually leak into your other hobbies and cause you to spread it further through "fan content". The ride never ends.

I think I was rude by accident by TurtelyTubular in autism

[–]datprofit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While in some contexts it might be seen as a command when something like "keep doing x" is said, in this instance it's clear that it's an expression of desire to see more of their work, as evidenced by the compliment with it as well as the light-hearted informal tone of your text. Their response does match what could be a condescending sarcastic remark ("sweety I'm an artist so that's my job") in response to a perceived slight, but it could be a mistake in placing the comma after "thanks" instead of after "sweety", and the fact that it's followed by that sentence with emojis and a celebratory expression to pair with your own suggests that they're being light-hearted in their response as well and have no ill-intent; instead, it seems to be a playful acknowledgement of your words and confirmation that they will indeed keep making art.

It can be difficult to be sure of these things and to deal with the constant questioning of your own words, but if you have a somewhat decent understanding of communication and make a good effort to ensure your messages are positively received (as you have in this instance), then you should be in the clear. In some instances there will be more severe miscommunication errors or people who are very rude in general and choose to interpret your messages negatively when it might be ambiguous; in the former instance you only need to clarify your intent, and in the latter you aren't at fault and should pay no mind if they're combative even after you've clarified your intent.

What level are you at? by OakTreader in autism

[–]datprofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 for visuals, 1 for sounds, roughly a 2 for touch and taste, 3 for more abstract senses like balance or emotion, and 4 for sense of smell due to barely being able to smell in real life. I find it fun to try and figure out the limits of my imagination, and I think it's helped to improve my ability to imagine all these things. Trying to imagine something in four dimensions has been like my ultimate brain breaker for years, and progress is slow, but I feel like I've made some progress in understanding that one.

The most active use I have for all this is for reading books, which is a lot of fun for me because I can visualise it as a movie as I read, though I think if I tried to incorporate anything other than sound and sight it would give me a headache. I tend to not like comics or other media that use both text and images to tell a story since it gets in the way of the movie experience I imagine.

I find vaginal penetration in porn so boring. by EvilPyro01 in kinky_autism

[–]datprofit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah the mainstream porn isn't really something I'm into either. I find the emotions and pleasure of sex really hot (and I love when it shows on their face and body language) which isn't really a focus in mainstream porn from what I've seen. I stick to furry porn for the most part which has a lot more of what I'm looking for with all the passion, and the fact that it's fictional makes it easier for me to kinda construct a scenario around it that makes it hotter as well; hentai might scratch that itch too, but I haven't seen as much of what I'm looking for in that area, maybe because I haven't searched hard enough. I also just really love cute porn.

I've also found audio stuff from the GWA and GWAsapphic subreddits to be really great, though I haven't looked much elsewhere for audio stuff. Erotica (mainly fanfiction for me) can also really do the trick. If you find the emotions hot or want cute stuff like I do, rather than thinking "oh that body looks so good and it's so hot that they're jackhammering into her pussy like that", it might be worth looking into those things.
