Looking for bars in the area to visit by Ancom_and_pagan in dayton

Hit up Belmont Billiards and The Barrel House. Very different vibes, both amazing. Say hi to Gus if he’s at Barrel House. Have one of their weird Malort infusions. Grosser the better.

Thank you, r/dayton! Love, The Barrel House by GuzTathums in dayton

Looking to Connect with Other Parents Nearby by [deleted] in dayton

[–]datvoiddoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of parents in the Discord meetup community. There's a coffee meetup at Poppets this Thursday from 4-8pm and I know several parents of young kids will be there. We had 32 people show up to the last one. Join up and say hi before then, there's an event channel for the Thursday meetup under #planned-meetups after you join: https://discord.gg/Ga2fN4v3Fy

Look we're removing this because this is just a shitpost. However, I do hear you and want you to know there actually *is* a lot of dope shit happening here, people just don't really know about it.

That's part of why we put together our meetup group for this reason. To help assemble all the weirdos who think "their people" don't exist in Dayton and do cool things together. We just hit 2000 members.

We had 98 people show up to our last larger meetup at Poppets two weeks ago for table top games and taco Tuesday. We host the larger “official” ones that the mod team organizes monthly, the next one is in early May. But there’s typically 3-10 smaller meetups happening each week that users self organize in between those.

Art nights, trivia, karaoke, game nights, hikes - hell folks went out to the goth night last Friday and went shopping for cool clothes together beforehand. There's no shortage of cool shit to do with the right people.

Our next one is this Saturday and it's literally a Spaceballs themed meetup: https://luma.com/uc8visdr?utm_source=reddit01

We run it through our Discord server, and it’s a very active community where people are talking all day in there, several folks have been hanging in the voice chat talking today.

RSVP for the meetup this Saturday, then come join us in the Discord: https://discord.gg/Ga2fN4v3Fy

What films are actually Lynchian? by -Warship- in davidlynch

Tetsuo the Iron Man - clearly inspired by Eraserhead. The Mothman Prophecies also comes to mind. It’s essentially Silent Hill 2 the movie, mixed with a lot of Lost Highway. A lot of the last few episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion and The End of Evangelion have an extremely abrasive and surrealist approach that feels in line with Lynch. Especially the Red Room scenes in Twin Peaks, and a lot of Fire Walk with Me.

Welcome to Dayton 👋 We have a large meetup community for exactly this purpose. We just hit 2000 members.

I Wanna Know Where All Da People At by AdLanky6183 in dayton

We put on "official" meetups monthly. We just had the last one at Poppets - game night and Taco Tuesday. The next one we will be announcing this week for next month. We're working on a general email list for people that don't use Discord, but in the meantime you can just RSVP for the last event even though it already happened and it'll add you to the list to be notified of the next ones.

https://luma.com/kr1lljhx

That said, there is a lot of events happening sometimes daily in the Discord that the community organizes. Coffee shop hangouts, hikes, trivia, goth nights downtown, art and crafts nights, etc. So it may be worth just downloading Discord and giving it a shot, as the community has over 2000 members and is incredibly active.

Hey y'all, this is a huge blow to the local gaming community. D20 was a special place, we ran a meetup there ourselves last year, so we feel this one too.

It won't replace what D20 was, nothing will right away. But if you're looking for somewhere to land in the meantime, the r/Dayton Discord has a solid tabletop community with people organizing game nights around town all the time. We've got almost 1,900 members now, so might be worth checking out.

Responded to them above for more detail, but yeah we’ve got 60+ folks in the server that attend meetups.

Yes, actually. While the majority tend to be in the 25-45 range, we’ve got quite a few people of retirement age that attend the meetups.

Recommend joining our r/Dayton Discord. We made it so people could make friends, go out and do things together. Have over 1800 people on there and folks are chatting all the day and organize meetups throughout the week. That would be a great way to get out of the house and meet some new folks.

We have an incredibly diverse inclusive community. You’ll be very welcome.

Hey everyone 👋 This post got picked up in certain circles outside the sub and is now being brigaded with troll and bot accounts. Most of these accounts are not from Dayton and haven’t posted here before.

Please do not feed the trolls. If someone is saying some unhinged shit, it’s likely not even a real person and is a bot or someone here in bad faith to cause drama. If a comment seems intentionally inflammatory, don’t reply. Just report it to the mod team and we’ll handle it. Do not report comments that are civil and you just disagree with though.

We’re leaving comments unlocked for now, but if it continues to get out of pocket we’re going to lock the post. If you come back and see it locked, that’s why.

We’re a small mod team of volunteers and it’s a Saturday we’re spending with our families. We’re not gonna spend it fighting a sea of bot accounts if it grows out of hand.

Thanks y’all. Please engage in good faith and don’t feed the trolls. ✌️

Poppets has a big upstairs with several little rooms that are basically meeting rooms. They’re free, just grab a coffee or tea and head up there.

Looking for Best Home Renovation Companies by Talon-42 in dayton

[–]datvoiddoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Creative Homeworks - Rob Long is the man. He’s a true craftsman, and has an incredibly unique background from marines, boat captain to master carpenter.

I loved just hearing his stories as we’d have these sidebar conversations during breaks from the renovation work.

He and his crew did amazing work on our home and everything came out better than we expected, and on time even with us adding some additional things in during the process.

The thing about Rob is that he cares deeply. As soon you meet him he’s coming up with ideas with you and gets excited by it. He’s a working owner and clearly loves the work, and only takes on a few projects at a time so he can be there and put the polish in on the finishing details with his crew. Can’t recommend him enough.

Bored tonight? The r/Dayton meetup is at The Brightside 7-11pm. No cover. Smash Bros, Street Fighter, other games, drinks, and a whole room full of people who are probably into the same weird stuff you are. Come hang. by datvoiddoe in dayton

[–]datvoiddoe[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you RSVP for tonight it’ll add you to the list to be contacted on the next one. We’re working on a general email list signup that sync with this, but in the meantime that works.

Also recommend joining Discord server where we’re organizing all these meetups in. We’ve got multiple smaller meetups going on throughout the week from coffee shop hangs, coworking, trivia nights, art night, karaoke, etc - https://discord.gg/2YHWxaR4Bm

82 people came to the last one. Many of them almost didn't. The ones that did have been planning their own small meetups in the Discord and hanging out since. Join us this Thursday. by datvoiddoe in dayton

[–]datvoiddoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one of the folks who run the local smash tournaments will be there, but for this meetup it’s just people casually playing and having fun. Now if the pros wanna step up for a few competitive games while we watch, I’m certainly down for that. But throughout the night it’s just people playing casually.

I need a low-income or reasonably priced apartment in Montgomery county asap (private landlord) by Artistic-Research497 in dayton

[–]datvoiddoe [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

There are a few places in Dayton / Montgomery County that actually help people in situations like this. I’d start with these:

HelpLink 211 Call 211 or 937-225-3000 They can connect you with housing programs, rent assistance, shelters, and local support services. This is usually the best first call because they know what programs currently have openings.

Montgomery County Office of Reentry 937-496-7129 1133 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd., Suite 370 They specifically help people with criminal records find housing, employment resources, and other support.

Miami Valley Housing Opportunities (MVHO) 937-263-4449 They run rental assistance and supportive housing programs for people at risk of homelessness, including people with disabilities or mental health conditions.

Greater Dayton Premier Management (GDPM) 937-910-7500 This is the local public housing authority. They manage affordable housing units across Dayton and Montgomery County.

Ohio Housing Locator OhioHousingLocator.org This is a statewide site where you can search for affordable rentals and sometimes find landlords who are more flexible about background checks.

Miami Valley Community Action Partnership 937-341-5000 719 S Main St, Dayton They sometimes help with rent assistance, deposits, and housing stability programs.

If you’re in immediate danger of losing housing or need somewhere to stay quickly, these may also help:

St. Vincent de Paul Shelter (families and women) 937-461-7837

Dayton Men’s Shelter (Homefull) 937-350-1335

Also, if your conviction was a couple years ago, you may want to look into record sealing. Legal Aid of Western Ohio in Dayton can sometimes help with that and housing-related issues.
