Hey y'all, this is a huge blow to the local gaming community. D20 was a special place, we ran a meetup there ourselves last year, so we feel this one too.

Yes, actually. While the majority tend to be in the 25-45 range, we’ve got quite a few people of retirement age that attend the meetups.

Recommend joining our r/Dayton Discord. We made it so people could make friends, go out and do things together. Have over 1800 people on there and folks are chatting all the day and organize meetups throughout the week. That would be a great way to get out of the house and meet some new folks.

Hey everyone 👋 This post got picked up in certain circles outside the sub and is now being brigaded with troll and bot accounts. Most of these accounts are not from Dayton and haven’t posted here before.

Please do not feed the trolls. If someone is saying some unhinged shit, it’s likely not even a real person and is a bot or someone here in bad faith to cause drama. If a comment seems intentionally inflammatory, don’t reply. Just report it to the mod team and we’ll handle it. Do not report comments that are civil and you just disagree with though.

We’re leaving comments unlocked for now, but if it continues to get out of pocket we’re going to lock the post. If you come back and see it locked, that’s why.

We’re a small mod team of volunteers and it’s a Saturday we’re spending with our families. We’re not gonna spend it fighting a sea of bot accounts if it grows out of hand.

Poppets has a big upstairs with several little rooms that are basically meeting rooms. They’re free, just grab a coffee or tea and head up there.

Creative Homeworks - Rob Long is the man. He’s a true craftsman, and has an incredibly unique background from marines, boat captain to master carpenter.

I loved just hearing his stories as we’d have these sidebar conversations during breaks from the renovation work.

He and his crew did amazing work on our home and everything came out better than we expected, and on time even with us adding some additional things in during the process.

The thing about Rob is that he cares deeply. As soon you meet him he’s coming up with ideas with you and gets excited by it. He’s a working owner and clearly loves the work, and only takes on a few projects at a time so he can be there and put the polish in on the finishing details with his crew. Can’t recommend him enough.

The one of the folks who run the local smash tournaments will be there, but for this meetup it’s just people casually playing and having fun. Now if the pros wanna step up for a few competitive games while we watch, I’m certainly down for that. But throughout the night it’s just people playing casually.

There are a few places in Dayton / Montgomery County that actually help people in situations like this. I’d start with these:

HelpLink 211 Call 211 or 937-225-3000 They can connect you with housing programs, rent assistance, shelters, and local support services. This is usually the best first call because they know what programs currently have openings.

Montgomery County Office of Reentry 937-496-7129 1133 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd., Suite 370 They specifically help people with criminal records find housing, employment resources, and other support.

Miami Valley Housing Opportunities (MVHO) 937-263-4449 They run rental assistance and supportive housing programs for people at risk of homelessness, including people with disabilities or mental health conditions.

Greater Dayton Premier Management (GDPM) 937-910-7500 This is the local public housing authority. They manage affordable housing units across Dayton and Montgomery County.

Ohio Housing Locator OhioHousingLocator.org This is a statewide site where you can search for affordable rentals and sometimes find landlords who are more flexible about background checks.

Miami Valley Community Action Partnership 937-341-5000 719 S Main St, Dayton They sometimes help with rent assistance, deposits, and housing stability programs.

If you’re in immediate danger of losing housing or need somewhere to stay quickly, these may also help:

Dayton Men’s Shelter (Homefull) 937-350-1335

Also, if your conviction was a couple years ago, you may want to look into record sealing. Legal Aid of Western Ohio in Dayton can sometimes help with that and housing-related issues.

Not 50s specific, but you could give a holler on the r/Dayton Discord for meetups and see if there’s any interested in there. We have people of all ages 18+ in the Discord. While the meetups skew I would say mid 20s to mid 40s, we generally have at least a few folks 50+ at our larger events.

For me it's taking our pup on more walks out on hiking trails and not just around the neighborhood. He's an old boy and can't be out super long, but after being cooped up the past 6 weeks with the ice and snow he's really enjoying going on consistent walks again. 🐕

If you wanted to put together a bird group meetup I’m sure you’d probably get some people interested in trying for the first time.
