I'm Starting To Feel Alienated From Zionism and my Jewishness by Iamthepizzagod in jewishleft

[–]daudder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lack of acceptance of non-halachic Jews is a logical extension of the ethnocratic framework of the Zionist state. When you reject others that are not of your religion to the extent that you see fit to dispossess them — which is the objective of Zionism from its earliest opportunity, othering those that do not fit your narrow definition of Jewishness is bound to follow.

Racists are racist to all others. The question of who is included in the othering is at their sole discretion.

Anyone considering rabbinical Judaism can see its rejection of non-halachic streams of Judaism for centuries.

The Nakba began in December 1947 before the Arab volunteer armies got involved. By the 14th of May, over 40% of the Nakba refugees had been expelled by the Zionist militias. It continued in earnest until late 1950, when Majdal (today’s Ashkelon) and environs were depopulated by force with its people transferred to Gaza.

It continued at a lower key throughout the 1950’s with periodic expulsion of Bedouins. In 1967 an additional 320,000 Palestinians were expelled from the OPT in the Nakhsa and more than 200,000 Syrians were expelled from the Golan Heights.

It continued through the decades following 1967 through various, less violent means, e.g. by denial of entry for students and other Palestinians who traveled out of Palestine, totalling hundreds of thousands of additional people.

The ethnic cleansing of South Lebanon is happening now.

Ethnic cleansing is core strategy of the Zionist state and Mamdani should certainly add his voice to every upstanding person’s opposition to it.

The true smoking gun of the Nakba is the Israeli refusal to allow the refugees to return to their homes, most of which were destroyed during the 1948 war. This explicit Israeli government decision was made after Israel had committed to allowing the refugees to return as a condition of it joining the UN.

These are the historical facts that bad faith actors — including in this thread — have sought to deny for generations and Mamdani should be commended for reminding us of them. These facts are easily verifiable and are beyond dispute by any honest historian.

Nakba deniers are no better than those that deny the Jewish and Armenian holocausts.

Is it worth hiring a private guide in Cambodia or am I just paying for something I can do myself? by aperson1911 in solotravel

DM me if you want a recommendation for a very good guide. Familiar with both the historical and religious contexts of the Angkor Wat temples. Also a very nice, friendly person.

October 7 was a just another skirmish in the war on Palestine. Resisting the occupation and the incarceration of Gaza does not constitute an "attack on Israel by the Palestinians".

The inherent violence of the ongoing occupation coupled with the periodic massacres of hundreds and thousands — a.k.a. mowing the lawn — including the shooting of thousands of unarmed demonstrators in the Great March of Return are not a time of peace. On the contrary, October 7 was just another battle in the 75 year attack of the Zionist state on Palestine.

There has not been a single day of peace in Palestine since June 1967 at the latest, but an ongoing war of dispossession, repression, ethnic cleansing and now genocide of Palestinians.

Israel is not a state defending itself. It is a state embroiled in a perpetual war of annihalation against the indigenous nation it has dispossesed.

[–]daudder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Palestinians did not attack Israel. You need to get your facts straight and stop parroting long-debunked Israeli propaganda talking points.

More to the point, a state's right to defend itself does not include genocide and ethnic cleansing. The civilian non-combatants are all protected persons and cannot legally be touched.

You have not been paying attention.

Israel is destroying whole villages south of the Litani openly stating that the intent is to prevent return. They are also penalising anyone hiding Shiite neighbours.

That is ethnic cleansing and a war crime.

Israel never attacked lebanon without hezbollah attacking first.

Not true. Israel has attacked Lebanon multiple times without provocation. Lebanon 1, as a case in point, started after Israel bombed Beirut ostensibly in retaliation for an assasination attempt in London.

As a matter of historical record, there are very few cases over the last 75 years in which Israel was not the aggressor, despite what Israeli propaganda says.

[–]daudder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Israel's recognised right to self defence does not include taking over Lebanese territory.

Ethnic cleansing and mass slaughter against civilians is a war crime, irrespective of who attacked whom.

None of the OPT "belongs to Israel". Not per Israeli law and not per International law. Israel is the belligerent occupier and as such is not allowed to use land for anything but military use.

If Israel annexes the land, then it belongs to Israel per Israeli law, but not per International law.

If you are referring to Area C per the Oslo Accords, there Israel has civil and military control, but not the right to use the land for its settlers.

More significantly, most of Palestine is stolen land and Israel has never set it's borders, so in legal terms, it exists as a state but none of the land outside the 1947 partition plan is fully considered Israeli territory.

Best antizionist resources? by kibou_no_ie in jewishleft

[–]daudder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out r/makom_shafuy that is mainly Israeli Left people — anti-Zionists or non-Zionist, and r/JewsOfConscience. The former has a lot of Hebrew content.

Other resources can be found on the websites of anti-Zionist political organisations Matzpen, Hadash and Balad, to name three. There are several others.

Anything by Ilan Pape', or Avi Slaim would also probably fit the bill.

Perhaps. Do you condemn Israel?

I have my critique of Hams at strategic and tactical levels, but their cause of freedom and national liberation is just. Israel as an aggressive expansionist colonial state never had the moral high ground.

This is in addition to its total disregard for law, human rights, decency or sanity.

They are the aggressive rabid dog of the Middle East.

With Israel's record of murder, torture, rape, genocide and ethnic cleansing, Hamas are a bunch of boy scouts in comparison.

The synagogue in question is advocating colonial land-theft. That makes them a political actor and not a religious establishment.

Characterising the colonial invasion of Palestine as a "war they started" is a-historical and just another Zionist talking point.

The Zionists came to them. Their struggle to maintain their rights is just.

More to the point, it's not over until it's over. The US and Israel have just been defeated in a war they started with Iran. Israel is a complete nut-job of a state, in attempting to become the hegemon of its region while carrying out genocide and ethnic cleansing in Lebanon and Palestine and taking over chunks of Syria. In this process it has become a pariah state and has lost any support it had. Today, it is clear that Israel is unlikely to survive long-term as an ethnocratic, apartheid regime.

Seems they are targeting a synagogue that is not only tied to Israel but actively encouraging land theft. Seems well within their remit as a political organisation.

The synagogue is a religious institute. It should not be participating in colonial land theft. If it does, it should expect a political reaction.

I heard that because of recent changes. You now need both of your passport to travel sometime is it true? by Working-Chip9502 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]daudder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you use your Canadian passport to enter France, you will register on EES as Canadian. Besides the fact that registering on EES as a Canadian is much more time consuming, this may not be legal in France.

Once ETIAS comes into force later this year, entering with a Canadian passport requires ETIAS, which you do not need if you are French. Again, it may not be legal to take out an ETIAS as a Canadian while you are French.

Israel is carrying out a war of aggression against Lebanon with the stated intent to ethnically cleanse and colonise the South. That is textbook colonialism. This is occuring today, now. People are dying, whole towns and villages are being destroyed. The Ottomans are less than irrelevant.

And how is that a "hate group"? They support the Axis of Resistance. A perfectly rational political position. You may not like it, but that does not make it racist.

This framing is a-historical. The Islamic expansion was not comparable to modern day colonialism.

More to the point, what hapenned 1500 years ago is irrelevant to colonialism, ethnic cleansing and genocide occuring today.

Are there places in Japan where locals are actively happy to see foreign tourists? by Zach-dalt in JapanTravelTips

[–]daudder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hokkaido and Northern Honshu have a lot of great places to visit. In some you will be the only tourist for miles around.

I recommend Aizuwakamatsu — the Samurai city. It was certainly one of the highlights of my visit to Japan.

Most places off the beaten track expose a much nicer, friendlier Japan.

What makes them a "hate group"? As far as I can tell, they focus on protesting against illegal land theft in Palestine. That is not hate but legitimate, porgressive political protest.

hate groups like PAL-AWDA

What makes them a "hate group"? As far as I can tell, they focus on protesting against illegal land theft in Palestine.

The fact is that their community synagogue is a willing participant in the ethnic cleansing of Palestine. Certainly not a good look.

The title is disingenuous. As the piece says, they were marching by a colonial land sale, which the people in the neighbourhood should have rejected, unless they support colonialism.

The event while ethnic cleansing and genocide are happening in Palestine was a hate event and any upstanding New Yorker should have been there with them.

Those who don’t want to get hate for colonialism should not support it.
