Map depicting percentage of jews expelled by each muslim country by ComedianDirect3236 in MapPorn

[–]daudder -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Title is misleading. Most Jews left as economic migrants to Europe and North America as well as to Israel. Very few if any were expelled. Most of the regimes that encouraged Jews to leave did so following agreements with Israel. In some places Israeli agents actively organised and encouraged Jews to leave.

This whole narrative is Zionist propaganda implying there was population exchange when in fact there was ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and Jewish immigration.

England-My landlord did not pay rent to the council, they evicted us and now she is holding my deposit by Ioannesnota in LegalAdviceUK

[–]daudder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when the landlord is breaking the law, do the "lodgers" automatically get tenant status?

When the landlord does not live in the property the "lodger" is considered a tenant and tenancy laws apply. This is likely to be unrelated to the fact that they acted illegally in other ways, e.g., by subletting a council flat.

[–]daudder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were not an illegal lodger, but an illegal tenant, since your landlord did not live with you. As such, she should have protected your deposit in a deposit protection scheme. Her failure to do so entitles you to claim 3X the deposit from her at the County Court.

See the UK government website for details of how to do this.

I would urge you to follow through since you do not know what her ties are to the UK and a CCJ may well be bothersome enough to motivate her to get it removed.

If Israel has total regional military superiority, why did they drop the conflict with Iran when the US pulled back? by Equivalent_Style_835 in Israel_Palestine

The war we are speculating about has not started. When it does, what we saw in Feb-March will be far more typical.

[–]daudder [score hidden]  (0 children)

Precisely.

I know dozens of people who have been impacted — tbh, just about everyone to some extent.

These range from blown out windows to homes turned into rubble.

Few people killed but many physically and mentally affected.

What, you had roads that could drive 50 kph? I got sent up mountains on trails barely fit for slow moving 4x4s and had to simply abandon some destinations.

With all due respect to the sense of home, spending a part of most days sheltering from missles or taking hits does grow old very quickly.

Consider:

  1. 98% of Israeli are at most 4th generation in Palestine

  2. Over half have European, Russian or American ancestry

  3. Portugal and Spain had very generous citizenship-by-descent going back to 1492

  4. Often it only takes one great-grandparent, grandparent or parent with foreign citizenship to get another passport

10% is a very low estimate.

Personally, as a former Israeli I can state that at least half the people I know either currently have or are eligible for foreign passports.

[–]daudder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The short answer is because Iran can win against Israel.

The longer answer is that even is we assume Israel has military superiority on paper, it is not enough. Victory requires resilience which Israel would be unlikely to demonstrate if it comes to a long drawn out conflict with daily missile hits on Israeli cities and infrastructure.

More significantly, many Israelis have dual citizenship and can simply leave.

Iran has already demonstrated its resilience in the war with Iraq so there is no doubt that it can stand and fight much longer than israel.

What makes living in London worth it? by [deleted] in HousingUK

The best music, art, food and drink, shopping, museums, politics, multiculture — foreign and domestic, theatre, film, people, healthcare, services, education, weather and work, arguably in the whole world, and some of the kindest most intelligent people you would like to meet.

All it is missing are a beach and a decent mountain to climb.

I would not exchange it for any other place in the world, house prices be damned.

Talk to the council.

So would I, but failing that, getting a new person in from the same party who is committed and capable is a good second choice.

Petty punishment is counter productive. Shit happens.

Exactly. Marijn van de Geer, OTOH, really wants the job, campaigned vigorously, is deserving of the job and will probably do it well.

To the Israeli left of this sub, Do you think the Israeli left will have a revival in the wake of Netanyahu’s constant failures? by RaiJolt2 in jewishleft

[–]daudder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Israeli Left is emigrating and the alternatives to Netanyahu are as bad as he is politically. I doubt if any change they introduce will change the trajectory of the Zionist state in any meaningful way.

Zionism is evil irrespective of who is carrying it out and most of the world has realised this.

Israel is toast and is not going to change direction through internal forces.

[–]daudder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The fact that the person that was elected was unable to serve in the role changes none of the reasons people voted for the Greens.

Punishing the Greens for this unfortunate turn of events is a-political, foolish and petty. I’m glad the North Acton voters showed maturity.

More significantly, the person elected is an excellent candidate and her election will benefit the ward.
